I am buying a Octavia VRS and am thinking of a petrol 230 bhp.

owned a 184 diesel before and fuel economy was great !

wanted a big more excitement but wanted to know a very realistic economy figure for the petrol ??

Depends entirely on your type of driving

Short journeys, inner city, traffic, stop/start at junctions and traffic lights / roundabouts everywhere - 30mpg maybe a touch under

Long journeys, free flowing A roads and motorways, rarely accelerating/decelerating at junctions etc. - 40mpg and even a bit over

A mix of the two, somewhere in between.

Rag the absolute arse off it everywhere you go, even 30 would probably be a push

I picked up a 230 about 3/4 weeks back.  The journey home was the A34 and M40 for about 120 miles - 43 mpg plus was easily attained.

I live in the midlands in a large village so everything is a trip on a and b roads.  Luckily there's not a great deal of stop start inner city stuff where I imagine fuel might be at a premium but darting around my area on short journeys I'm in the mid to late 30's.

If I decide to warm it up and go for a "drive" then lower 30's seems to be where it's at.  Saying that there are precious few places you get to rag your car these days.  A relaxed 30 minute journey mixed roads will generally get me close to 40mpg.

I used to drive a BMW330e and it seems comparable to that when there was no battery charge left.

Average of 35 here for the last 3 years.

Bear in mind I haven't paid toooo much attention to it, as pretty much anything is going to be better than the ol' GTi6, but I noticed it sitting on 7l/100km this afternoon. That was after 20km on the freeway then about 15 of urban, including a bunch of rather brisk takeoffs to test the lower dogbone insert I had just had done (wonderful, no axle tramp even with TC on).

This is the manual pre-FL RS230 mind. DSG may fare better as I rarely shift as early as the dashboard indicator suggests.

Echo others above, I'm at 35mpg long term after 2 years.

A long motorway trip fully loaded will see me get 40/42mpg without trying too hard.

B roads to work (I live rural), depends how late I am, 28-39mpg, usually 35mpg.

Without trying to go either slow or quick I always end up around the 33/35mpg mark.

Mine is 220 dsg.

20mpg.

When towing nearly 1500kg 😀

No move from between 35-38mpg average in the last 3 years - throughout town, A & B road, motorway and spirited driving.

Manual pre-FL 230 with Racingline stage 1 (now "OEM+") map on Shell V-Power.
