@RomanB - thanks for this, however i can't seem to find the firmware (MHI2_ER_SKG11_K3343 MU1433) for my MIB2 Columbus.

do you know which folder its in?

Hi https://mega.nz/folder/3Y5T2Z5A#L2endnMmtyOdbjr_K1oDyw/folder/HJ4UFS5Q but what is the reason to install 1433 if 1440 available?

I've told 1433 is the latest for MIB2, which is wat i have.
1440 is for MIB2.5, so no good for mine.

Still confused, you mentioned that you have Columbus so it means mib 2.5 high so highest available version is 1440. If you have 1433 you can update to 1440.

There are 2 versions of Columbus:-

- MIB2 with buttons on the side

- MIB2.5 without buttons (from MY18 onwards)

Mine is MY17.

Just a word of warning to anyone here doing a diy firmware upgrade, it seems it’s possible you may end up with a fault code logged that cannot be cleared afterwards (Carista lists it as “01555 motors for central locking SAVE”) which research has led me to believe is actually a flag the dealers use to see when hardware or firmware has been changed and it looks like VCDS is needed to calculate a hex value and enter into the adaptions to clear the flag.

Carista screenshot below and link to the info I found when searching the code from within the Carista app (links to a web search for vag fault code 01555)

https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/strange-fault-after-fitting-8”-screen.361269/

Appologies if this turns out to be a red herring - I’ve got VCDS on order now so will update if / when I am able to clear my fault

VCDS CODING
5F (Infotainment) module, Adaptations, channel: 'Confirmation of installation change'
Note your current coding
Start Windows calculator and set it to 'Programming mode' and select 'HEX' option
Calculation: (current coding) XOR C9D2
Change the adaptation channel to the new (just calculated) code
VCDS main screen, 'Auto-Scan'
Check for fault codes (generated by the update) and clear them (software version, interrupted communication, etc.)
Note that VCDS shows your code on the adaptation channel with a space ('xx xx' format). You have to remove the space before you calculate your new code. At the point you enter your new (calculated) code, insert the space again.
EXAMPLE (don't use these values):
'1A 1A' (original coding of the adaptation channel)
1A1A XOR C9D2 equals D3C8
Enter it as 'D3 C8' (with space) on the adaptation channel
If your original code starts with zero(s) just remove them before calculating (if it's 0AFB for example calculate with AFB

Yes RomanB that’s the procedure I need to follow with VCDS I believe.

just wanted people to be aware of the risks of updating at home if they don’t have access to VCDS to clear this fault

You are right this error will appear after new sw installed, and you need erase  it by any tools obd 11 vcds or odis, but error will not effect for device itself. And in my case I can't overwrite new value until another errors on 5F were cleaned.

interesting, is there any instructions how to create custom update files

mine Mib2H with 1433 contains Radio stations logos database 1.8.3

Mib2.5 1440 contains 1.9.7

on VW portal found 1.10.10, but that weren't accepted by Columbus

I successfully cleared the "1555 - Check Software Version Management " fault that Carista was showing as 01555 motors for central locking SAVE" today using my new VCDS lead from Gendan UK so I'm all sorted now.

Is MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0478T ok for MIB2 Amundsen?

Check your current train, if it has same name  like mst2_eu_sk_zr_  it should fit, I have no tpi and software compatibility chart to be 100%sure. Normaly metainfo has an

I think yes it should be fine but as I mentioned previously I have no tpi, and you are doing everything on your own risk. No idea try to check on the German site that I mentioned and from where I hot all this info also there are some instructions. Good luck

Tried to update today and MIB2 rejected it due to "missing decencies".  I will try 367T tommorow and see if it would be possible to go to 478T after that. I did however read on some forum (lost the link) that it's not possible to go from 2xxx to 3xxx, 3xxx to 4xxx,... but let's see. I guess MIB2 is smart enough to know what it can allow and what not.

So as i understand about MIB2 you can't update your version between sets as you mentioned like 2xxxx 3xxx 4xxx so you have to be inside one of these group. Because if you check metainfo file it sais what is required version like "RequiredVersion = "2101.231" for "MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0253T" so you can't instal Release = "MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0367T" because it is required "RequiredVersion = "3101.236" and for 4xxx looks the same,  your current version not belong these sets. May be it is possible to overwrite eeprom and change version but result could be unpredictable. This is just my opinion
