No probs i'll find another, there is loads around the area.

If not Cologne is only 75Km away and that could involve some interesting nights out!!!!

If I come over I'll proberbly stay in Bonn, closer to the ring and very good public transport for getting around. Less traffic in the centre for when you are driving to/from the hotel.

So is Bonn a better bet then Manny?

I'm not fussed but that could mean a good night out on the Sunday before the drive home mid morning.

Wow - Bonn is getting quite close to my German side of the family, what's left of them. Looks to be about 80/90km from the Ring, or at least from Nurburg itself. :)

I'm going to need molly-coddling through this trip by those that have been there. :o

Bonn is an oldish city, I say oldish because I think we bombed some of it in WW2. Bonn used to be the capital of Germany until Berlin took over. The hotel I stayed at 2 weels ago is a one mile walk from the centre, has its own underground secure carpark but at €70 per night for a single room including breakfast maybe out of some peoples budget.

Jason, if you are contemplating going you are going to have to do something with the loud exhaust. You will be turned back from the barriers, and they now use spotters at random on the trackside with monitoring equipment. The limit for 2006 is 95db.

Is my golf ok?

try norfolkline, thats who i'm going with in two weeks time,

Is my golf ok?

Hopefully we can all get the same tunnel crossing and the same hotel.

Am currently looking online at hotels in Bonn and will post some links up later on this evening everyone.

Cause I think he was on about having LPG fitted, ur not allowed LPG in the tunnel, they don't have a license for it

No it was his suspension. LPG for a diesel is way more hassle than it's worth (although possible).

Ah, okay!

Nope - LPG on a diesel is a piece of pi.... cake once you have the right gear. ;) and it is the LPG, not my suspension which is stopping me from going on chunnel. Apparently something to do with pressure drops, and exploding tanks.

My doubt with suspension is how stiff it is, and how rough the course is. From what Manny said the track is kind to tyres, so I should hope it will be fairly kind to my coilovers too.

It nothing to do with pressure drops etc.

when the tunnel was opened and certified there we're only 4000 LPG cars on British roads so it was decieded that it wouldn't be necessary to have the half million pound test to certify LPG for travel on the tunnel, huge test in the testing tunnel.

There is talk of the test going ahead soon as LPG use in on the increase in this country and it is also very wildly used in various countries in Europe.

And LPG on a Diesel engine gives huge gains in power,up to 60% maybe more if i remember correctly.

The LPG helps the diesel to burn better so releasing more energy from it hence more power.

 Thats why I'm looking forward to having it, Its about 25% they claim in increased bhp/torque, which if fully realised for me = 275bhp/450 lb/ft. I can't see it doing that, but I'd be happy with 250hp/400 lb/ft.

Thanks for the chunnel info. :) Think I'll be using speedferries.

When i did my fitting course for LPG they were telling us about alot of the Police forces who us Land Rover Discovery's had the conversion done and it increased power and torque by 50%.

Anyway stop hi-jacking my thread!!!!!:D

All

I can't make this trip as I went in March and am going at the end of this month and again in October.

A couple of points though -

Norfolkline ferries from Calais to Dunkerque are the cheapest crossing and drop you further up the coast towards the Ring (crossing is slightly longer though).

If you plan to go the Eupen route, the road after Eupen is up for miles and will severely slow your journey down and possibly damage your cars. I'd be suprised if this is fixed by Aug/Sept. Best route by car is - E40 Brussells/E40/E40 Leige/then head Spa/St Vith/Gerolstein/Kelberg/Ring

Also

Cochem is not too far from the Ring (15-20 miles approx) and is on the Mosel and a really nice place to stay. Very scenic, good restaurants/hotels/bars. Added bonus is the drive there....it's like the Ring all over again.

On the road to Cochem is a hotel called - www.hotel-wilhelmshoehe.de - I have stayed here and recommend it. Good food/hosts/beer, but a bit isolated, added bonus is that the owners are an english/german couple.

Lance

 Thanks Lance. I've taken the liberty of emailing them to enquire about reservations. I ignored Norfolkline as I thought it left from Norfolk....

Shall enquire about them too then.

£49 for trip to Dunkerque. Would I be right in saying this isn't far from the main road from Calais into Belgium? Looks spot on to me and they sail every 2 hours too. I'll be using this method, thanks. :)

Devon

It's about 25-30 miles up the coast (the right way) from Calais, on the usual Calais/Ring route. The Autoroute is about 3-5 miles from the port.
