It's a rite of passage for 'roadies'...

Years ago a lady in a 3 series BMW coupe overtook me, stopped and threw her door open to get out. I smashed into it, writing off my frame and forks and smashing my helmet to pieces. Got pretty banged up in all honesty. Luckily she was reasonable and settled all my expenses and replaced the broken bike. She did claim she 'didn't see me' despite me being 6' and wearing a bright pink jersey.

Funniest bit of it all is while I was sat with the ambulance people getting patched up, I watched her try to get her door back in the hole it came from, with little success :-)

Best 30 mile average speed for a while yesterday, and done on my heavier winter bike with mudguards etc. Really must get the 'good' bike out at some point, just not sure I trust the weather (yet).

A longer ride was planned but the recurring rear tyre issue put paid to that.... swapping out later for the tyre that came on the bike, this one is now scrap 😀

I’ve stitched up small tyre tears with dental floss before now.

But this one wasn’t salvageable...

Van dropped off for repairs.... 10 miles or so, 40% canal and then mostly road apart from a short section of climbing through the woods near home

2 Sundays ago, 38 miles in 26°c of humid heat. Yesterday, 40 miles in 17°c and misty. Today, 30 miles in 13°c and pouring rain.

Can someone just confirm Summer has just started? 'cause the weather appears to be getting worse!

No, because the Solar Summer starts on May 1st, the Astronomical Summer today, and the Meteorological Summer on June 1st.

So all the summers have now started? if so, then I wish someone had told the blasted rain Gods :-)

A curtailed ride today through user error... Must learn to pick up front when going from road to track 🙄

Slow speed, off the side and landed on arm and shoulder. Arm is now very sore, hurts to grip and can't quite straighten fully so I can see a few days off work 😀 and the bike 😒

The kerb was the small cobbles and literally 2" high 🙄 but approached parallel and the front dug in.

Scene of the crime was top left just before the straight lines on road home

I did quite well today then by not falling off.

I was riding a pushbike and not an e-bike which i usually do this route in an average 13 mph.

Today was no traffic and on and off pavements and no stopping at junctions, not much climbing or a headwind.

Go on then rub it in then 😏

Just really achy now, sudden jarring movement is painful so hopefully bruised rather than broken.

It's quite strange thinking back to earlier in the ride that I was thinking that today wasn't 'quite' right? a bit like when you know whether you have 'legs' or not.e-Roottoot no offence... but more of a feeling that cornering, climbing is gonna be difficult and concentration not there either

i know the feeling youre talking about. ive had it while driving, that feeling that you just know something is going to happen, and then you nearly get killed by some kittens.

Two weeks back i was riding along singing a song and as happy as Larry, then i was laying in a new dug stony and concreted drainage channel thinking how am i getting out of this after i had dropped into having caught my pedal on a weighing down block & then my bar end mirror (that broke) on the security fence that was there to corral you along the temp path that was replacing the right of way they are building houses on.

(ride it and know where the path is and come back a few hours later and it is moved by workers or even closed right in to let vehicles through and then not widened again.)

So i was on the ground with the bike on top of me, head down & a shoe had come off and i had only scrapped my elbow and my wrist was a bit sore but still i could not really get up as trapped against the fence, so lay a bit, then got the bike off & sat a while, took helmet off and gradually sorted my self out. Some old nutter walked past and just ignored me as i said, i fell off my bike!

Long story short is for about 4 years my left shoulder has been pretty bad since falling sideways one time when i forgot to drop my seat as i came to a stop, now that pain has gone.

Sorted by the wonders of having another accident and hitting the same body part.

Scene of said accident 4 years ago, now 4 years on the houses are built and phase 2 under way and the 'Developer' still gets away with making life difficult on a right of way.

@e-Roottoot Note the word "pedestrians". If you're riding, or even pushing, a bicycle then you're not a pedestrian.

I suppose luckily I was in a group run by our local council under a healthy lifestyle scheme, lead riders are British Cycling trained and we register for each ride with all our details available.

Checked over before they let me back on the bike, as I was nearer home than start after a few hundred metres I decided to go home. Lead rider insisted I was accompanied home and had a phone call from the guy who is in charge of the scheme, he rides with us once a month, at 7.30 last night.

It will be reported as a 'near miss' as I got home under own power and no 999 call, arse covering but I was looked after.

Now deciding whether to go to Hospital or not

@KenONeill Actually if you know anything about Scottish Rights of way and vehicular rights of way and pedestrians you will know that pedestrians are human powered.  And it is cycling and walking and even human powered scooters or wheelchairs.  That is in Scottish Law / statute.  By-laws might mean no cycling on pavements where there is street lighting.   Just because someone blocks a vehicular right of way and makes it just a right of way or even blocks that, then putting up signs means nothing.   So that is not just a path or passage for people on foot or in wheel chairs.      People that are going to accept others interpretations of law should get to know the law for that country.  This includes police officers and even council officials.  They should get to know the local authorities Right of way officer.   I have been a member of The Rough stuff fellowship and the Mountain Bothy Association for 45 years now.   Important to know your rights in Scotland.  PS I have on my new tribute to you helmet today.  Ok just need an extra L to put on it. I have a set of letters someplace.     PPS. All-around Angus are shared walking and cycling routes and pavements or pathways.  Also paths for all which includes access for horse riders.  Millions came from the Commonwealth games shooting being held at Barry Buddon.  There are loads of new projects in the planning and opening already.
