JB4 installed- first impressions

Featured Replies

So had my JB4 installed on Thursday. Been using map 1 until today.

Today i had engine oil done also dsg & haldex oil changed. Then i refuelled with higher octane fuel and switched to map 2.... OMG....

I thought with Map 1 there was difference but Map 2 just feels crazy...in the best possible way....

It pulls really hard and gearbox seems to be shifting bit later too when pushing it...

Obviously i won't be using it full stop. Map 1 will be always on though...

Just waiting for exhaust system from Germany and then i will be happy man😁

Just curious -

I note you are from Jersey and I wondered where you plan to make use of all the extra oomph, given that the top speed limit on the island is 40MPH.

(and that is about a 1 mile stretch along the dual carriageway in St. Helier, from memory)

Not sure where you aiming with this question...

Seeing as how your profile says you are located on Jersey the question posed by @cardo also crossed my mind.

Is your profile location not accurate or do you normally ferry to France or UK?

No it is correct, i live in Jersey and do ferry to France and then drive across Europe to Germany/Austria/Czech Republic....

I just don't know what to really say when people ask this...it's almost like you live in a place where top speed limit is 40mph, why do you modify your car? Jersey actually has one of the highest concentration of super cars per square mile in the world so this question would probably be more justified towards someone with Mclaren or lambo than me adding 50 odd hP to my Skoda.

People buy cars and never drive them etc....it takes all sorts.

The assumption of people tuning their cars in order to be hitting higher top speeds or even speeds above the NSL is always amusing, but unless in Germany it's far from reality. It's mostly about the rate and ease of acceleration rather than anything else, 70, 60 or 40mph he will be getting to it faster than before for whatever reason, simples.

On to the actual topic now, Map 2 is more than fine, still less strong than a typical remap in terms of boost, timing etc. I see no reason why you shouldn't just leave it to that setting unless you were getting error codes or weird behaviour, just enjoy it!

Your car, your choice, of course.

I just think it would frustrate the hell out of me to have a quick car and not be able to use it most of the time.

In the 280 you already have the quickest Superb, so adding power in such a restricted location just struck me as slightly odd.

I guess you'll enjoy your blasts across the continent as and when you can.

As to the Lambos & such - poseurs, I guess.

(and do these cars even fit along the many 15mph Green Lanes?)

...and you can barely do 70 these days on any of the motorways here because once lockdown ends its going to be a mess on them again, that doesnt stop people modifying their cars here either. There needs to be zero justification from the OP as to why they have had extra work done to their car and what is being implied is just wrong imo.

Enjoy the car and the new map I say!

I know this is a Škoda site, but there still must be a little boy racer lurking somewhere in our collective DNA.

I used to ride a motorcycle until four years ago. The best part (well, one of the many best parts) was being able to pass slower traffic at will. And, for that (when you are two-up and laden with luggage) you need power. In a car as heavy as a Škoda, you need loads. That doesn't make you a hooligan, it makes driving safer. (Honest, judge.) Who hasn't pulled out for a passing manoeuvre and wished your car had a little more guts? The thrill of that sudden pressure in the back. The relief that you were able to leave plenty of room behind you as you pulled back into your lane.

Then the wife saying, "Slow down". This is a Škoda after all...

We all tend to forget that it is not necessary to have that much power to drive like reckless. Combining power with road speed limits is a hypocritical thing.

Fortunately, some still retain a bit of passion for cars, in recent times it seems that the manufacturers themselves want to make us give up.
And then, why do we have to have justifications for wanting more power? From this point of view, even 150hp is too much, 25hp is enough to reach 50 km/h or 40 mph. Just my two cents.

I cant agree more with above comments...you buy a car whatever it is...fast, slow, cheap, expensive, classic or new thing on market. In the end of day car is made for one purpose ...to get you, your passengers and whatever you carry from A to B. For some people it is purely metal thing on 4 wheels that serves as work horse, for others it's a member of family... Their pride and joy. There was a chap on here who had L & K superb pushing 560hp...0-60 in 2.9.... So again the argument could be....is it really worth extra 30k spent on mods when your thrill of getting to legal limit lasts barely 3 seconds? It's your car so i say absolutely! It's all about putting your own touch into it...if everyone was sensible car scene would be very boring, there would be no dragsters, no static cars, no rally cars, no drift cars etc etc ....

Your car your choice!

My 150 Sportline is mapped to 193 and is still a snail in comparison to the 280 Superb 😂

I had a 110 Superb and the turbo lag was terrible, so much so I found it dangerous taking off in suburban traffic.

what is reassuring to me is that I have that extra bit of pep if/when it’s needed.

enjoy your car 👍

What's the estimated power with the box installed?

Not sure but it feels quite fast😂👀

On serious note, Skoda is known for stating lower than actual figures on paper (VAG group politics) There has been plenty of people who dyno'ed their 280 superbs to find that they are pushing close if not over 300bhp

JB4 claims 45bhp from map1 and up to 100bhp from map 2/custom map with bolt on modifications and high octane fuel.

Real life could probably see gains of up to 70bhp (guessing)

I will have it checked on rolling road once my exhaust system arrives😎

What map are you using mick? I’m thinking about mapping my 150 diesel I was considering getting the revo from George Dalton in Portlaoise.
