Kodiaq Style MY21 (New Zealand) - no personalisation option?

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, new Kodiaq owner here. It looks like personalisation (key to seat memory etc) has been removed from new builds. The dealer was surprised but confirmed it with the country manager.

It seems like a real backwards step and I am hopeful that the function is still there in the computer but just made invisible to the user rather than a completely new system.

Can anyone advise if this is something that can be reactivated using VCDS or is it a completely hopeless case?

Thanks for any advice.

There's a helpful discussion of this issue in another thread. It looks like some of the personalisation features are no longer available, and the rest are now managed through the 'Users' function, rather than through a specific 'personalisation' menu.

For an MY21 car, probably not since some control modules are locked down more than before. I'm surprised they would remove the key based memory though - what does your user/personalisation options look like on your infotainment system?

there are literally no user or personalisation options presented on the screen, which isn't encouraging

thanks, I had seen that. It seems counterintuitive to remove such a great feature from the car. I was hoping there was some workaround but it does not look likely now.

Just an update on this one.

I'm in Australia, and complained to my dealer about this as I was not told that user personalisation and DAB+ were not in the 'new model'.... Like you, dealer was 'surprised' that it didn't come in the MY21 model and wasn't told.

Anyway, cut a long story short. I complained that this was not acceptable (not telling me that these features were not in the 'new' model) and managed to get a free 3 years servicing out of them.

To be honest, I would rather of had the DAB+ and personalisation. My wife and I are quite different sizes, so we have to press the button on the seat each time we drive (and me getting in the car after her using it means that I'm hitting the steering wheel when I get in!).

Oh well, first World problems 🙂

Exactly the same here, the dealer came through with a 3 year service plan which is better than nothing, but I 100% would have preferred to get what they sold me.

Still love the new wagon though, it's a great car to have.

Whilst the 'Personalisation' feature is now just a third key, my understanding, and supported somewhat through testing is that some features including the selected User and thus seat position is associated with the last key that locked the car, so if you can manage to keep a separate key each this might overcome some of the issues. What I am not clear on is when more than one key is present, which is used to lock/unlock/start.

EDIT: just to expand on this a little more, this assumes that you have created a User for each driver and made the various setting adjustments unique to that User with the appropriate User selected, and then locked the car. The car/key should then remember which User is 'associated' to that key. Definitely a weaker system than being able to hard code a key to a user though, which is what I thought I was paying for.

Can I ask a simple question - if I have three key option (one key for me, one for my wife and one spare) - will  a brand new UK Kodiaq remember the driver’s seat position for each persons key and start adjusting it when I unlock the car using each persons individual seat?

(I ordered 3 key option and electric seats hoping this would be the case…)

AFAIK the 3 key option is literally now just a spare key, albeit good value, and has no bearing on personalisation. In answer to your question, as per my earlier post, my belief and understanding is that for this to work reliably you would need to ensure that the profile that is active each time the car is locked is the one associated to his/her key. it is a dynamic thing and there is no longer any way to permanently assign a key to a particular driver/User.

I stand corrected!  that's a retrograde step and puts me off the thought of a newer model (not that I currently have personalisation but it would be nice!)

so if my wife gets out the car and the profile active was hers… and then I unlock the car with ‘my’ key - will the seat automatically go back? Or do I have to manually tell the infotainment system ‘it’s me’ because the key is not longer linked to it?

As each of us will have our own keys and we won’t swap them, I am hoping things will work just fine…

If your wife doesn't lock the car, then not sure what will happen if you press the unlock key on your fob. If she has locked it, and you unlock the car with your key (fob or KESSY) then if the key was last associated with your User/profile then it should apply all your personalisation settings (including seat).

As I 'asked' above, if more than one key is present, which does KESSY use...

This is based on my testing, what I have read of other's experiences on here, and the user manual, but caveat emptor. My dealer was pretty clueless in this area (and others) and the MY21 manual still referred to a Personalisation menu option, which doesn't exist, so Skoda themselves were not all singing from the same hymn sheet. The fact that the option name has been changed from Personalisation with third key to just third key suggests they've caught up with the fact that hard set fob Personalisation no longer exists having moved to a clunky, confusing and buggy User/Cloud system.

A bit offbeat, but has anyone tried the old style seat-to-key assignment now that the new fangled one that does radio stations too etc is not available to you?

I have a 3T Superb II (circa 2013) and to save a seat pos (and mirror position) to the key:

 - Drivers door open

 - Arrange seat and mirrors to desired position

 - Pres SET on seat

 - Hold down memory slot button (1, 2 or 3) until bong!  Release button

 - Then press unlock button on the key fob remote.

All 4 turn signals flash (3 times I think?) and then it's saved.
