Engine, gearbox and suspensions retrofit

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

I own a skoda octavia mk3 2015

it came with 1.6mpi engine and normal 6 speed gearbox

it came with torsion beam rear suspensions.

I am planning on retrofitting the cjx engine of the skoda superb 280hp with the 6 speed wet dsg dq250 and the adaptive suspensions

but I am afraid of having all this hp on a torsion beam rear suspensions

Also, selling the car and buying a new one is not an option

the retrofitting is way cheaper here in Egypt

thank you

That is quite a job.

Looking forward to following the project when you post it in the project section.

Have you found a good donor Superb for the parts, and is it so badly damaged that it is not repairable yet the Drivetrain and suspension is usable?

?

I take it they are not parts that have come from a stolen vehicles?

Yes

here in Egypt, they usually get Japanese cars with low mileage.

the superb I saw was 18000km

while my own car now is 162000 km

my only concern is a powerful engine on a torsion beam rear suspensions

So why are you not going to run the Superb and sell the Octavia?

You are going to be running Haldex so AWD (4x4) with the Superb Engine and DSG are you not?

No

for me to sell the octavia and buy a new skoda superb awd, I will have to pay around €50k over the octavia

I will take the superb’s engine, gearbox and front suspensions and retrofit it in my octavia

It will be FWD not AWD because you cannot fit the haldex unless you got multilink rear suspensions

Good luck with that then.

?

How much does it cost to buy these parts required to fit and have this working in your Octavia and how much will it cost to have someone do the conversion?

It will cost a total of around €3.5k

including the retrofitting of the smart entry as well

Yes not stolen

I am sure about that

Why don't you take the Superb rear sub-frame too ? It should fit to the Octavia.

Basically you could get the WHOLE motor + gear box + sub-frames (front and rear) ? maybe even full Haldex system, but the fuel tank has to be changed as it is different on 4x4.

Keep in mind that the DQ250 for haldex has an additional complication on the front differential to redirect the power on the rear end.

I dont know the process of changing the rear subframe

and no one has recommended it before here in Egypt.

So I am not sure if it will be done right.

if there are videos for something like that, I can send it to them to be sure that they can do it

thank you

I am still trying to compute how you get parts from a car that is 50,000 euro more than the Octavia for only 3,500 euro.

I would find a car that is fwd as the scrap car. The AWD gearbox will add too much complication. If you know that part will work than I don't see why the beam rear end will struggle as it's not carrying any drive. Shocks might not fit though.

The power of the MQB chassis is it's modularity. The mounting points of the sub-frame of a Superb and an Octavia are the same, engine position is the same, suspension is almost the same, etc...

Have your mechanic measure, but basically you just need to drop the Superb sub-frames and fit them back to the Octavia.

Frankly if you get a donor car that has good engine and subframes, you should be able to directly swap the sub-frames with every thing bolted to them.

Indeed, the electronic part might be harder than the hardware part ... finding someone who REALLY knows his way in VAG system, it could be done fast. But it could lead to a nightmare too ...

New car prices in Egypt is very high

you get the skoda superb awd for about 800k egyptian pound whick is around €44k

People here in Egypt get cars from Japan and sell it as parts and they dont pay any fees on imports and taxes

so the price for changing the engine, gearbox and suspensions is around €3.5k

Get the rear axle & suspension then.

Wiring loom, ECU's etc etc.

The electronic parts is no problem

there are people here in Egypt that can do it easily

They work alot on golf 5,6,7,7.5

but the golf here in Egypt comes with multilink rear suspensions

so its a bit easier to retrofit the skoda engine with the hildex or the golf R engine with the hildex

Best ask the person that is going to do it what they can do and what they want you to get.

Sure

will do that

I just wanted to know the possibility

and also, I wanted to know if the torsion beam will be alright given the 280hp engine
