RIP Andy, very sad news.

I've not been on line a lot recently , preferring to spend time downstairs on tablet, so I missed this announcement. Sadly I returned to PC to come here to find a gent of the track ( both on it and over it) has been called to the great track in the sky. RIP Andy.

Oh my Lord! I've only just found this thread. That is such sad news, my thoughts are with his family and friends.

 

He was easily one of the most natural and effortless wits on Brisky. His slightly surreal sense of humour was the perfect antidote to a miserable day at work, or an overly pompous Brisky poster. I loved his irreverent badinage and left-field thinking, it's a rare gift and one he had honed to perfection. Perhaps I'm being selfish, but I can't help think of all the fun times I'll be deprived of now. A real joy to share cyberspace with.

I go into busy periods of work where I'm either away from home or working daft hours and don't get on Brisky for long periods. I'd always hoped Andy would come back, but we do have his wonderful posts to look back on and several daft threads which hopefully will run for a long, long time

I hope this doesn't sound a bit crass, but does anyone think it would be fitting to give Andy the top Ranking under his username. His name will live on in the great threads he started and he undoubtedly would have eventually, earned the upgrades.

Andy had not been latterly posting due to an unrelated issue so I doubt he would have managed to achieve the top accolade.

 

His Briskoda ‘presence’  will always be checking on us no matter what level of ranking he attained though.

Perhaps pin the So, Tonights tea was....... topic. I've checked and it looks like it's the last topic he posted that can be enjoyed by anyone.

Something would be nice. I was thinking of more of an appreciation of his contribution to Brisky rather than the literal number of posts he made. Maybe a 'Legend' badge or similar? Or better still, 'The Lurpack' badge

Completely agree some sort of recognition is appropriate.  Lurpak or nothing, butter-wise.  Also, he was an advocate for Marmite too.

 

BTW Isn't there a category called "honorary member" or similar?

I initially presumed this was misspelt but judging by the number of times @Lady Elanore has previously used it, there must either be some reason for her doing so (which I'm unaware of) or they have a slightly different sort of butter where she lives? 🧈

Unfortunately though, a Lurpack (or Lurpak) award wasn't in my thoughts.

 

@MikeTheThinker hit the nail on the head with his earlier post but I ideally needed to be at home to get it sorted:- the awarding of Honorary status to our dear departed friend.

 

 

Andy has been an active member on Briskoda for over 17 years and as far as I'm aware, Honorary status has only previously been given to ex Staff members.

 

Even though he's no longer with us, his persona and legacy continues to set new boundaries and we are proud and privileged to be able to bestow this award posthumously as a mark of our gratitude for all his contributions and for just being himself.

I have a continued fight with an autocorrect which seems to be 'Murican and changes Lurpak to Lurpack. It took me months to retrain it to let me type Whisky instead of Whiskey. Trouble is, it's now used its own spelling so often I don't know if it's re-trainable within the next 20 years. I also mistyped the word 'from' as 'form' a couple of times, it then took the lead and if I don't inspect a text, it's littered with things like "form me, to you"

 

Anyhoo, Lurpak award or not, it's decent thing to do

 - I do use speel chuck on the fly, but not combined with auto second guess, so in this sentence "speel" is red underlined to tell me it's wrong.

Andy was ( from what I've heard) from up North and I'd presume from the Pits. My last few years of working life was spent working with Pway blokes who'd retrain from Pit to track. It was a lot easier for them to shift ballast in the open air than crawl down pits. Andy hauled himself up by his britches to the inside of a Loco. Perhaps as a tribute we might replace the car with something as massive as Andy. I'd suggest a Deltic, massive presence. Not a lot of noise at idle, but on track it's got to be heard to be believed. That was Andy.
