Very likely to be that, yes, but it should stop smelling of petrol very soon after a cold start.

Was start for about 15 to 20mins but still could smell petrol

  • I got someone to come out to check the car and confirmed its a bad catalytic converter  and i found a car breakers who is willing to give me a catalytic converter and said if it passes the mot I pay £

  • Update good news my car passed its mot and it was the catalytic converter not the 02 sensor. And had to replace the exhaust sleeve as it was 100% rust lol  Thanks for every one's help 👍👍👍👍

  • This has completely spiralled out of control, if the car has failed on emissions there should be a readout from the gas analyser stapled to the fail sheet. Please post a picture so we can clearly see

What I found out is the garage i took it to for a service never changed my engine oil so I been driving for over a year with dirty oil so going to give it an oil change think that was the problem. Will update with the results

Can't hurt anyway. But don't forget the filter.

To many that is a service change of oil & filter, a very minimum.  a proper service should be for the whole car especially the important systems like brakes, steering, suspension, tyres, etc. .  Personally given the miss I'd also be checking thigs like the air filter, (plugs), (fuel filter), cabin filter, coolant and cleaning sensors as required.

Think of like GIGO (garbage in, garbage out) but MIMO instead - muck in, muck out.

The rest I done myself but as I was really busy I just sent to the garage normally I do it all myself and will be from now on the good is I got all my money back

I found the problem it's the lambda sensor bank 1 sensor 1 it says at 1.3 volts constantly but the bank 1 sensor 2 moves up and down from 0.1 to 0.9 as it should

Maybe. It's a wideband sensor, so they tend to stay at a constant voltage when in closed loop operation.

My BKY engined 2005 Polo sits at 1.5V, what's the engine code of your car?

Correction, our Fabia 1.2 sits at that voltage, the Polo maintains approx 0.45V.

I asked the guy at the garage he said it shouldn't be at a constant voltage plus I went back to the mot station and he said it's the lambda sensor causing the emissions to be high

See correction/edit to previous post. I was looking at the wrong log.

I think yours should probably sit at around 0.45V like my Polo, so you're probably right.

Well I oredered a new one if it don't sort the problem out I'm just getting rid of it too much headache even I like the. Plus the guy at the garage said for £10 worth of petrol I should be getting around 80 miles but I be lucky to 50 miles

I get a bit less than 10 miles per litre, approx 42mpg, but my driving pattern is almost all short 5 mile journeys.

Sounds better than mine I just hope the lambda sensor fixes the problem if not just get another car

Did you fix the exhaust leak at the flexi?

Expect the new sensor to sit at about 0.45V, as per this official info:

Yea it was just a tiny gap where the previous owner put the universal flex pipe on and that means it the sensor mine sits at 1.3 volts on the torque app

Yeah, but the new one should sit at 0.45-ish.

Yea thats what i read on google search aswel. So do you think this sensor was the reason for the emissions to fail

  • Sponsor

Probably, yeah.

I think the genuine number is 036906262T for the BKY, you can get cheap ones on eBay for £50 or spend upwards of £100 for premium/genuine.

Second hand might be alright being Bosch might not be, just check your figures with your machine after fitting it.
