RE: 2006 vrS OWNERS STUTTER - SKODA UK FIX

Featured Replies

Hi, as the owner of an 06 vRS i have monitored the site as a guest, but based on what i have just received from Skoda Customer Services, i thought i had better sign up!

Below is my response from Customer Services

I can confirm that the information posted on the BriSkoda website is not correct regarding a component cure for the Fabia vRS software/performance issue. Please accept my apologies for any misunderstanding from the information given by Customer Services.

I can confirm that our position remains the same and the factory at the Czech Republic is still investigating this matter. There has been no indication of any component causing this issue at present.

So that a wrinkly rear seat and a st st st stutter

I definately didn't see either featured in the brochure!!!!

Thanks for this info mate.

For the record, the details that I and others have posted on this site were not based on our 'misunderstanding' of information from Skoda UK. We were merely reporting what we had been told by them. If a Customer Service Rep. from Skoda UK tells you that there's a component/software fix, there is nothing to misunderstand. What Skoda Uk should be doing is apologising for misinforming myself and others and getting on with a fix!!!:finger:

Suncat:cool:

I dont think they are going to bother to hard finding a fix seeing as production of new Fabia is in not to distant future and VW, Seat and Audi are not looking for one saying it is a "characteristic".

Has anyone actually rejected their car becuase of this stutter ?, would be intresting knowing how they got on. If Skoda Uk admit their is a problem perhaps best to reject now before they also decide its a "characteristic" !

My 06 Fabia 1.9TDI has similar problems to those described by VRS owners as the "stutters", misfiring including an embarrasing stall in a busy town centre, hesitant and unpredictable accelerator operation which is particularly noticeable when changing gear.

Cruise control is very lumpy as the throttle lacks any fine adjustment at low setting, this also makes driving at optimum throttle for economy an impossibility.

Quite exciting when the engine surges but difficult to stay within speed limits.

Prior to taking delivery of this car I had 4 very happy years driving an identical Fabia, no problems at all.

Skoda phone regularly to tell me they are working on the problem but 4 months of misery is the limit.

Having seen from this forum how widespread the stutter problem is , Skoda seem to be very laid back about finding a solution. Regular phone calls from customer services gives me no re-assurance that they are on top of this problem affecting so many VRS and Fabia 1.9Tdi models.

I

So who is going to do the decent thing and get a half page spread in What Car or the like ? - perhaps even a feature on a well know BBC consumer affairs programe might be called for !?

I have never heard of the problem before the 06 model appeared. My previous car was an identical Fabia 1.9TDi Elegance Estate purchased as new October 2001. A joy to own, great handling, economical and no problems during the 4 years of ownership.

I became a Fabia enthusiast and only decided to replace the car so that I could pass it on to my son. Needless to say he is delighted with the car.

That's it!

I am not accepting this anymore, i have spoken to the dealer twice and contacted Skoda UK twice.

They have been unable to resolve and with no end in site i have rejected my car. I know a little about consumer law and i think having given them the opportunity to resolve without success i have a very strong chance of a refund.

How sad that it comes to this. With cases like this Skoda will surely undo all of their PR efforts in altering the general perception of the brand.

sorry to hear its so bad you're going to reject it.... let us know how it goes.....

I'm with you 100%! I issued a summons against Winchester Motor Company (Winchester, Hampshire) in Winchester County Court two weeks ago. As a brilliant piece of customer relations they are going to defend the claim in full; I've yet to receive their defence papers. Guess we'll slug this out in court. Good luck with your case. I suggest you give Trading Standards (they call themselves Consumer Direct these days) as they were pretty helpful to me with different options.

Perhaps we could start a class action if we could get enough concerned owners together.

Well done Skoda! Back to the bad old days . . .

I've posted elsewhere about this but I don't believe it is just a vrs stutter. We've got a 55 plate 4x4 octi with the 1.9 105pd engine and this has the stutter (I think it's just a shade over 2k revs). My gutt fealing is that it is a software issue but that is just me. I was wondering if any of the boys/girls with the remapped (unofficially/alleged didn't know it was remapped guv) cars suffer with the "stutter" it might be worth having an ask around

Funny, that because our 2006 1.9 105PD engine in our 2006 Octy doesn't stutter at all.

....Our 2006 Fabia VRS sure does tho'!

Why doesn't someone go to the motoring press, WhatCar?...

Thanks for the link

Good idea i say, there is enough of us to force a resolution.

my 06 VRS is fine!!

What a car!!!:P

My stutter recently got worse and yesterday the engine fault light came on!...AA came out to it and as we moved the car nearer to his van the light cleared. He checked it and found a P0401 fault code - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected.

Running ok today and strangely the stutter is not there!!! - didnt a SEAT guy cure his by changing the EGR Valve - will see if I can get the dealer to change the valve

Booked it into the dealer for Tuesday...will let u know what happens.

Somebody posted earlier asking how remapped cars fare with the stutter - what about cars with Digi Boxes fitted eg. Dragons....are thay any better or worse??

IIRC a Seat owners did cure it by replacing the EGR valve.

Thanks Keith for the news about the P0401 fault, hope that's the end of the stutter in your case but please let us know what reaction from the dealer. Hope for us all.

What a pity we get no reaction from Skoda through this forum, other companies who perhaps care more about existing users of their products seem to use the forums as a PR thing and note any reported problems and actually do something about them.

Seems Skoda, whilst acknowledging the stutter problem prefer to leave all communications to their customer services who phone me every week or so, and presumably many other frustated owners, to inform me "their engineers are working on the problem". Words but no action, hardly rocket science, why four months and no fix?

The dealers are in total denial of the problem otherwise how could they continue selling the cars without running problems with the consumer protection legislation.

Good luck with getting anything done on WATCHDOG, :)

I have reported something to them twice about a cold call company - i have heard bugr all from them:thumbdwn:

Folks,

Had an interesting call with Skoda UK helpline today re the stutter, I have been talking to them over the last couple of weeks (regular updates from Kerry, who has been most helpful). Updated today to be told they were 'trialling' a replacement part in cars at the moment and not sure if it was a complete or permanent fix..... so possible a cure on the cards ??? Possibly modified EGR Valve ??? could tie in with other findings in this post ???

I also mentioned the fact that VW and SEAT were claiming this as a 'feature' and not a 'fault' and was reassured that Skoda recognised it as a problem and were not going down the same route ....

So fingers crossed huh !!!

Well done. Hope you get a fix sooner than later!! Looks promising

I can't work out how it can be so random in my car. It's come back in the last few days after being quiet for the last couple of weeks

Oh well, still loving the car despite the minor hiccup as it were

I've posted elsewhere about this but I don't believe it is just a vrs stutter

Me too, it's not. The stuttering problem is DEFINATELY EGR related and not related to just the 06 model VRS. I've had 3 passat tdi 130's and 2 of those have had the stutter too. Lots of complaints on other forums from Audi, VW and seat owners with the stutter aswell if you dig around seatcupra.net, tyresmoke.net, passatworld etc

On my current passat, which stutters worse than my earlier one, i spent a fortune and nothing seemed to cure it. VW released a modified EGR part (gasket i think?) which improved mine a lot but didnt cure it. As a final resort my dealer offered to disconnect the EGR unit and it sorted it immediately 100%. Have a search on google for "EGR mod" - lots of people are doing it. It involves blanking off the EGR completely, it improves performance a tad and fuel economy seems better too. Was worried it might affect the emissions come MOT time but my dealer assured me it wouldnt. Mines done 20k miles like that now and through its last MOT with flying colours.

The part they are trialing, forgive me here as i am not technical, are 'thottle bodies' i think it was plural but as i said i don't know.

The car they are using is a customers from the dealership where my car was supplied from apparently.
