  • First off, well done to those who condensed the thread Couple of questions if anyone knows the answer. 1) Where do skoda dealers fit the 14.5mm gasket? Position 6 or 11? Seem to remember reading th

Re-map?

So why do they want to cure mine with a modified EGR gasket?

If I can help it I don't want them taking mine to pieces if new software will sort it out.

Is software the official Skoda UK fix?

It seems like skoda UK employees don't know there @rses from their elbows:rolleyes: I havn't received any phone calls to tell me what is or isn't going on, and everyone is getting different versions of a so called fix.

Hey ho!

Evening all

I have been running a modified gasket on my EGR which I made myself! Basically I used the old gasket as a pattern to cut out the overall shape and then cut out a 10mm hole in the center instead of the old diameter, I used sheet metal of about 2mm to make the new gasket.

The fitting of the gasket is a little tight and tricky but well worth it!!

The stutter has now gone:thumbup:

The info came from a very reliable source;) but its a shame I have had to do a modification on a brand new car!

So if its driving you nuts! give it ago. it wont damage the engine as the difference in diameter of the hole is so small, I have been running the new gasket for approx 3000 miles and basically I have now got the iceing on the cake:thumbup:

As a matter of curiosity, what is the original diameter?

Just had a look, it measure 30mm across but you need to look at the EGR to appreciate what size you really need. basically the old gasket has been made just to seal, if you size up the new gasket against the EGR you will see exactally what I mean!

The sourse of the Info Tried a variety of sizes and this is the one that performed the best!

The reason why they think it is stuttering is the EGR "gulping" a large amount of gas too quickly!!!

Trust me, it really works:D

Thanks :)

I may ring Skoda UK tomorrow to ask for updates like others seem to be getting. I'm feeling a little left out :D

Well its back from the garage...........it still stutters. The gasket solution seems the best bet. The driver did cheer me up a bit though he asked me if it was chipped as it was way better power than the demonstrator. I havn't touched it and wouldn't as its a lease car. Maybe some one at the factory was having a bit of fun and upped the BHP? :D

This is a great forum and I'm really enjoying my VRs, despite the bug. I'll call tommorow and say its not worked. The technical department must be getting the message by now. The mechanic was very sympathetic and knew about the problem.

Thanks for the update

hi my march06 vrs has never shown any sign of a stutter does have star performance 175bhp remap and pulls like a train smoothly right through the rev range.

Well its back from the garage...........it still stutters.

Sorry to hear that it's not fixed the issue but not surprised to be honest.

See my earlier post

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/post655136.html.

Get the EGR disconnected and it'll run ok....

My car was stutter free until 2700 miles into it's life. Now just past 3100 and problem still exists. Interesting reading the EGR seems to be the main course. I'll talk with my dealer and Skoda UK next week and see what happens...

Mine is in on Friday for mod kit,I will report on ant progress !!

VRS just delivered .

Brand new. Has the stutter. Awaiting a recall \ fix before i take back to dealer. Get all the faults done at same time.

Mouse

If you want to preserve your legal rights you must notify the dealer ASAP. They may well ask you to go in so that they can record some information from the ECU to send to Skoda.

Super.

Will do.

Thankyou

Had mine fixed on Tuesday at 7000 miles. It does seem to have sorted the problem and given the car more pull from about 1500 rpm. I had done 3000 miles in the last month and the stutter had settled down but would come back with a vengence when say damp/cold or suddenly very hot. I did however get about 55 mpg over those 3000 miles. On my old Vrs I averaged 47 mpg.

My advice is to reject the car without delay. I have been waiting since February for Skoda to come up with a fix. I receive fornightly calls from Skoda customer services advising they are working on the problem but nothing ever happens.

The dealer has lost interest completely and why not, they have no idea what to do and if they admit the problem how can they continue to sell the cars.

My solicitor advised I had 7 -14 days max to reject the car otherwise a long and expensive trail to seek legal redress through the courts. I was too late to do what I should have done immediately I became aware of the stutter - reject the car.

Hi All

Just like to update everyone with what has happened regarding my car and the stutter.

Firstly, the stutter has gone following the fitment of a modified gasket on the EGR valve by Lightcliffe Skoda, Huddersfield, this last Friday.

By gone, I mean gone, history, the past... Not even a slight hint it has ever been there.

Really, the car feels like a different car. The engine is quieter, its more responsive, the gear changes are smoother, more mpg and there is definately less smoke.

Secondly, Lightcliffe inform me that the fitment of these modified parts are to 'a select number of vehicles who had there ECU's downloaded'. This is before the "fix" is rolled out to all in a few weeks time.

Left it whilst now to post as I have had time to fully trial car. On return trip to home from Hillsborough, Sheffield car has shown 65+ mpg on a 25 mile journey. It's just a pity the Owls aren't as practical and exciting as my Skoda.

Same as above, mine was in on Friday, mod kit fitted ---have done 120 miles--all ok

Pity I now have to return to get the oil stains removed from my front AND rear seats, and a new battery cover as they have broken this one!!!

Almost progress

My 2006 vrs fabia has the stutter im sure, jerky at 2000 rpm, flat spot etc , just booked it into Skoda dealer in Yorkshire to have a look at it this saturday, the guy said its likely to rewuire a "new coil pack". I told him of all the relevent data i have picked up from this thread, (many thanks to all). Will see if they manage to sort the problem this time next week, I assume a new coil pack is nothing to do with neading the EGR valve modified or a remap of the engine management system as suggested on here ?

comments anyone?

Coil pack?  I'd go somewhere else!! Clearly your dealer doesn't know anything about cars! Coil packs were a common problem on the 1.8T, but seeing as the vRS is a diesel so doesn't have spark plugs then it doesn't have coil packs either!

now dropped car off at dealers, seems he meant a coil pack in terms of something to do with the engine management system or something? baffled ? i am! Anyway apparently there is an official "TSB" technicla service bulletin about the stutter now from other dealers warning of stutter at low speeds. and the fly wheel problem with rattly gearboxes that mine has.

Many thanks all for your comments keep em coming

dealer didnt find any fault with my car, indeed when i collected it and took technician out for drive it did not stutter, a day later it has started again!

Please anyway HELP!!!!

The date the VRS models changed to Euro 4 mode was 24th October 2005.

So only car Made after this date will be effected.
