I'm thinking of getting rid of my Fabia 1.9TDI, new in Feb 2006. The stutter is a serious problem for which Skoda seems to have no solution despite regular calls from their customer service department to assure me that their engineers are working on it. If it takes this long to solve the stutter, I'm surprised they ever manage to design a new model.

The stutter not only has a very detrimental effect on the overall driving experience but the fuel consumption is much higher than published figures, particularly motorway driving. My previous Fabia easily returned well in excess of 60 mpg on long journeys and a consistent overall 54 mpg. My new car never betters 45 mpg on long journeys. All figures are based on actual fuel and mileages, not onboard computer figures.

I would be interested to know whether there is a secondhand market for afflicted Fabias, are Skoda dealers likely to offer sensible px values to upgrade to an Octavia for example. Alternatively how do you offload astuttering Fabia when moving to another brand.?

I have had my car since April. Getting ready to book it in for the 10k service. My stutter is still there. It doesn't happen all the time. I can drive for days before it comes back, but then when it does, the car stalls and literally doesn't seem to move for about 3-4 seconds, then off it goes!

This is my second vRS. The first (53 reg) I part exchanged for the new one. Got a good price for it (£7,700) as it had done 57k miles and needed all the brakes changed.

The new one appears to lack a lot of power, especially as I ran my old one on bio diesel (this one has had a strictly pure diesel diet) but the dealer doesn't have any answers.

I do get really good fuel economy with the car, but the main reason is because I use the cruise control all the time and just poodle, but as overtaking is a brave or stupid thing to do, I just sit quietly with the lorries!

I have reported this to Skoda customer service. I get a call from Roger every couple of weeks. Basically saying that "technical" are still dealing.

I've even offered that they can play with my car, but to just sort it.

Reading these listings I am disgusted that some people have not had any support from Skoda (dealer or UK) and have had no other choice but to sell or part exchange. Then of course the new owner will have the problem.

All my friends thought my last car was great, but this one......well even I'm with them!

Also shocked that people six months on, are still having the problem. If Skoda are aware of the problem, then they shouldn't be selling the cars until the fault is resolved.

Enough from me!!!

I have an 06 VRS which has now covered 3500 miles but this is the 1st time I have posted about the stutter.

I dont know how it compares with everyone else but this is what I have experienced. When brand new (sub 1000miles) I really didnt notice it but as the milleage has increased it has become a bit of an issue. If I accelerate reasonably hard through the rev range then its never an issue, say short shifting into second and using 75% throttle from low revs. When it becomes a real issue is when I have been rolling along at below 1700rpm in 2nd, 3rd or 4th and then put my foot down, I can get a very obvious stutter just before the turbo starts to boost.

From what I gather this is similar to what other people experience, im just trying to add to the wealth of knowledge already in this thread.

I'm getting pretty much the same thing, I've only covered 2200 in my MY07 vRS. It's not horrific at the moment, but if it's getting worse as time goes on, how bad will it get? :(

Trip to the stealer I think...

Is there still no fix for this yet?

just bought an 06 VRs

so now i've already bought the bloody thing and noticed the problem straight away, even more so due to the fact that i have a 30k miles 05 model to compare it against on a daily basis. at the beginning of this thread there was a mentiobn of a fix in 4 weeks, that was in may it is now september, my supplying dealer are trying to play dumb and not acknowledge this problem, so i printed out this entire thread and intend to show it to them.

I would like to see their faces , and see them tell you there isn't a problem after reading this! lol....

Mine went in on saturday n they didn't do owt with it, but said that they're expecting a recall soon.......

the dealers didn't know it was a common fault till i told them about it!

Does anyone have a contact name/number at Skoda UK who is aware of the problem?

I have been patiently waited for the fix to arrive but I feel the time has now come to "kick some ***" at Skoda. Our 06 vRS has stuttered from day 1 and the dealer could find nothing wrong. It is more of an irritant than a real problem but I feel 7 months is enough time to have sorted this out.

See the contact page of the Skoda website for the customer service number. SUK have apparentely sent bulletins to all dealers, but mine denied this so I had to tell them what was needed (vagcom read out and the fault being registered with SUK) This enables you to be contacted when a solution is found :)

You could try John Borromeo (Skoda Technical), or Stephen Whitcombe (Skoda Technical Liaison Manager) at Yeomans Drive, Blakelands, Milton Keynes, MK14 5AN (01908 679121) if you are bored with being fobbed off by the customer service crowd in Leatherhead.

Hi

I would like to speak to Jolene the helpfull Skoda Ref that you mention.

Do you have a phone number or Email address ?

My 100Bhp Fab Estate has a similar stutter and the dealer is pretty clueless about the cause and possible cure.

Cheers

Jolene is in the customer service team at Leatherhead on 0845 7745745.

I've just spoken to Leatherhead and apparantly Jolene has left. The woman I spoke to (sorry didn't make a note of her name Doh!) was aware of the problem and took my details so that as soon as "technical" come up with a fix I can be told. I said that 7 months should be long enough to sort it out but, she just said they would inform me when a fix was available.

Right, I just phoned my dealer (Sherlodge Skoda, Gillingham) and was told the stutter is something others have noticed and (I quote) "There are a couple of things we can do to minimise it, we can't get rid of it yet, there are ongoing investigations, but we can definitely lessen it".

Sounds positive, so car booked in, I'll report on Monday.

Its not just the early 2006MY cars with the issue - picked my 56 plate up today and it has the stutter. Same as others here describe - light touch on the accellerator around 2000 rpm in 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear.

gettin my vrs next week after placing the order at the beginning of sept through an internet dealer, i know its irrelevant to this thread but my corsa cdti also has a flat spot below 2000revs, ive had it three years and mentioned it to my vauxhall dealer when it was 3 months old, they claimed to do a diagnostic check but everything was spot on,"just a charactaristic of the engine" they told me. It has got no better or no worse in 3 years

If my vrs has a stutter i guess i will live with it

Took mine in on Saturday, they said there wasn't anything that could be done to fix it, but they said it should be less noticable now. I'm not sure what they did, but I assume it was adjust the EGR valve...

It does seem to have a difference, the hesitation is happening much less often & is less noticable when it does happen. It'll do for me!

Good News. Spoke to Skoda UK this morning and they have a fix. Called my dealer who was looking into it. The fix is hot off the press so dealer may not be aware. Quote this reference no when calling as advised by Skoda.

CS/SW/3206.

I will keep you informed.

Did they tell you what the fix is going to be?

received a phone call this morning from Skoda Customer Services advising they now have a fix available for the stuttering Fabia (my words not theirs).

I have since received a call from my dealer asking me to arrange to book the car in early next week for an ECU update - this is an engine management system software revision I believe. They are awaiting the software disk.

This is good news, long awaited, I'll let you know the results.

My car is a Fabia 1.9 TDi PD first registerd Feb 2006.

I wonder how long it will take for this news to filter down to the IOW :rubchin:

I wonder if the new ones will be good from the factory now?

Good news at last....... I've got a couple of warrenty jobs that need doing so i might mention this as well...... I don't get many occurances of the stutter but i have had them.

Cheers

Dave.
