Non UK Kodiaq

Featured Replies

Hi,

We have bought (still in 14 day cancellation period) a 2020 reg Skoda Kodiaq. It was sold by a Jaguar garage (100+ miles away) so they are a bit clueless. It was advertised as an SEL (with loads of add ons) but when I put the VIN into the Skoda app it comes up as a "style" trim, built in Czech Republic. These are obviously not sold in the UK and on trying to use the Columbus SAT NAV the only countries listed are NZ and AUS.

the V5 document lists it as a SEL and does not mention being an import. I cant believe someone has shipped a Kodiaq from AUS to the UK but how else has it ended up here?

my questions are:

  • Can the Columbus System be reprogrammed to cover the UK and Europe ?
  • would there be an issue with parts for a non standard model??
  • Any other issues that may cause us problems?

I want to keep the car as it is lovely, drives well and had all the bells and whistles (surround cameras, adaptive cruise, virtual cockpit, vented seats, child pack etc) but am worries something is going to bite me further down the line.

Any advice would be most welcome

Iain

  • You'll probably find it's a UK car.  They are built in the Czech republic and, from memory the App is pretty useless at identifying 'local' trim levels and often shows the UK SE-L trim as Style.

  • You can do it through live chat on the website - I did this when I purchased ours second hand as I wanted to know what the full spec was and what had been added as 'extras' when purchased by the origi

You need to get a VIN and get that decoded if you want to find out if it was indeed meant for another market.

If you PM me, I will see if I can get you that information whilst you are still in cooling off period.

I wouldn't worry about it too much but you can always check the reg etc. on the DVLA website

Part are all compatible and mapping can be updated (it's probably been updated by someone who downloaded the wrong set of maps)

Thanks Skomaz,

The Weird thing is the Spec on the car pretty much exactly matches the Style trim for AUS with the luxury pack added. It has electric and vented seats but no heated windscreen etc. it has more spec than an Edition let alone an SEL

It is good to know parts are compatible 😀

Is there any information about how to change the region of the SATNAV anywhere?

I searched this site and read a lot about how to update maps but not change the region. The Skoda update portal gives me the ROW map as an update when I put my VIN into it.

To change the region, you may have to recode parts on your car (that's AFAIK)

Meanwhile, worth a look here and to begin download of EU map

@IainST Welcome to the forum.

Just contact Skoda UK and get all the info from the system.

When exported to where from the factory and was that into the UK, so by them & First Registered in the UK.

3 years manufacturers Warranty from the Delivery, Registration, or PDI.

Maybe even an Extended Warranty was bought at the time before first registration so 4 or 5 years.

EDIT.

PS.

Obviously whatever the cars V5 says the car is an Export.

Even if that is just from the Czech Republic/ EU into the UK/ EU as was, so different countries totally.

Do you know the best way to get in contact with them or at least the right department to get this info?

Yes i know.

You go to the Skoda UK website and the contacts.   You can send a message and get a reply and ask for a person to speak to.

I will leave you to google the page yourself.

You can do it through live chat on the website - I did this when I purchased ours second hand as I wanted to know what the full spec was and what had been added as 'extras' when purchased by the original owner.  They'll need the VIN but were able to respond within a couple of minutes

Just remembering that Skoda / VW Customers services is contracted out.

So Arse and Elbow can get mixed up.

Skoda Ireland has the 'Style' trim, and their specifications vary compared to those in the UK.

Does it have an Irish style number plate? Even if not it could have been originally supplied to an Irish dealer but registered here. I owned a Superb that was purchased and registered in Ireland but brought straight to the UK.

The answer is now in the document... proper head scratcher.

Wow a lot to digest there thank you so much for this. Wonder why it is RoW for navigation. Have contacted vwg about the details they hold as Skoda UK only had it one database which is apparently odd in itself

I would want to know if it is Australian Spec and came to the UK for use in Australia or anyplace else with the UK Military or anyone else and never got there.

There were stories of Audi's and a curious case of cars in Australia a few years back with the same VIN's.

No idea what happened on that one.

It is not just the usual of someone asking on here how they can get MPH digital on the speedo and being told to change to Australian for the lights.

EDIT.

My bad, not Australia, unless maybe some ended up there.

Keep us updated on any developments, when I decoded the VIN I was shocked even though you did mention map was AUS/NZ (hoping it was user error of someone loading wrong map)

Let's hope it's not something naughty, and just some massive 🐔up of an Aussie car being shoved on wrong boat.

Yes does seem very unusual...   I'd be interested to know the story too.

I suppose it then comes down to whether you still like / want it or not and what the implications for things like insurance would be.

What details show up re mot and tax history using the registration number on the DVLA website

Will let you know what else I uncover

So it is booked into the skoda garage on Monday for them to see if they can reprogamme the colombus. The garage we bought it from have given us more time to try and sort this out.

Checking thise details it is hard to know if there is anything missing/different from the spec that would cause an issue in UK (other than Nav) can cope without heated washers and presume emissions and safety matches UK/EU standards.

If there is anything I need to ask the garage please let me know.

Will let you know how we get on and thanks to everyone for their help especially Varooom. 🤩

Best of luck with this, also glad the original garage has extended (hopefully in writing) your grace period.

Be interesting to see if the Skoda garage can in fact change things, could be a very interesting topic for sure.

Well... this is a really odd one isnt it!

The only 'correct' way they can resolve the issue is by issuing the correct SVM code to the vehicle so Skoda's system is up to date with it now being UK spec.

I cant believe someone would import a car to the UK from australia, just to sell it? Or more than someone owned it for 2 years and didnt realise if it was in the wrong country :D

Good luck! be interesting to find out the cause and reason.
