Error: selector lever...

What year / model do you have? and what error dis you have before?

Mk3 Octavia 2.0l Disel. January 2022, still monitoring it but looks promising. The error is the same as per this post. Sometimes it was gone then pushing the parking position was reappearing. They initially told me that the selector box needed to be replaced but as it takes 3 to 4 weeks to get the part and I need the TUV they updated the transmission firmware (apparently released for this reason).

  • That’s mad! I had that on both my MK3s years ago. Can’t believe it’s not fixed yet.

So this issue was fixed on your MK3 Octavia? Not mk4? There is supposedly an update for the MK4 octavia as well

Back again, about a month since dealer replaced the new part and everything is all right, no error even in cold weather like before happened mostly when outside was colder.

Have to admit that when I was reading all kinds of issues related to this error message like whole gearbox faulty I was a little worried but it seems no other issue here only the selector lever mechanism.

The new part is completely redesigned at least mine looks different for PHEV version.

Good luck!

What you mean redesigned? Does it look totally different? Would you share a picture?

interested as well, +part number if it's visible or if you have invoice/other service papers

Unfortunately can't, I just have the part number 5WA713033CE and bowden wire linkage end 5WA713761A.

Dealer said it is a redesigned part because originally had some design issues.

In PHEV's can't take picture because it is more hidden than in normal versions.

i have a 2022 Octavia 1.5 TSI and for the first time , the selector level error appeared on Saturday when i crack start, i restart the car the error gone and didn't happen anymore on Sunday. My car warranty will end in August and since the error didn't appear again, if after the warranty period, how much would be the cost to self repair it?

It is something around 600 euros. It is very likely to re-appear. Once under warranty I wouldn't wait for it to re-appear because those selector levers are known for manufacturer design faults. Mine appeared after 3 yrs and yours too.

thanks for the heads up.

Well one thing - 1.5TSI is a different car, not sure if it's apple to apples comparing the two. But yes - mine was ~350 parts, ~200 labor. I'm in Lithuania tho, labor can be much more expensive in elsewhere, I've seen people being qouted around 1k for the whole thing.

In your position I'd strongly ask the dealer to repair it before warranty ends.

yeah, i will have the last servicing with the dealer in early Aug before the warranty ends and plan to point out the error. Just hope they honor the issue and repair under warranty. In saying that, if the error appear again, i will send in immediately and not wait until Aug. That's my plan.

My problem is that with VCDS I don't read any error ... One time I even left the car running with the error on display, got my VCDS, connected, and still no error.

This error stays in car logs and will be visible to them even if does not pop up again, and that's enough to get it replaced under warranty.

Also, if I could give just one advice to anyone with this car... go get extended warranty.

Hello,

I have a Skoda Octavia Mk. 4 (Nov. 2020 Combi TDI 150 (110)/DSG) for just over a year. I've driven about 30,000 kilometres with it since I bought it.

Sometimes, last year, when it was very hot, I had an intermittent problem with the DSG gearbox. This is a recurring problem as the summer heats up.

When I park the car, in hot weather and after driving for a while, the car makes a loud noise when, after restarting, I switch from P to D or R.

A message appears with an alert "Error: Selector lever. You can drive on". The message disappears as soon as you restart the car, but may take 2-3 restarts if you've driven a lot in very hot weather.

Do you think it's the same error?

When the car was serviced this winter, the mechanics had seen a history of this problem, but didn't seem very worried, they'd simply reset the logbook.

Hi,

this was actually my exact experience! Though I am not sure what loud noise you are talking about, maybe I wasn't paying attention. It started occurring now more often. Before I could not read the error with VCDS but now I can. image.png
This error matches what I read online elsewhere. You could most likely fix this by bending the contacts on the solenoid for the park. The deal with the park button is - if I remember correctly, that when the solenoid is active, it prevents you from pressing the park button - this is in the instances where the car would be moving and the computer would want to prevent you from engaging the park gear.

There should be no issues with driving and while driving connected to this I think - unless it would make it possible for you to engage the park gear while driving, I did not test this for obvious reasons. Maybe just take extra care to not press the park gear button.

You can google "P27F5 00 – Shifter Lock Solenoid 1 (Stuck Open)" to find the contact bending solution I mentioned. It's most likely this.

It's like a forcing noise, a bit louder than the usual P to D or R unlocking noise.

I've made a video to show at the next interview. They won't be able to say they don't have proof. The car is still under warranty.

i had the same error message last week when I had left the car in 40C. Interestingly the error dissappeared once I cooled the inside of the car and never saw it again since. Reading the comments it makes sense. I suspect it is quite humid and hot in Egypt this time of the year, which may be affecting the micro-switch.

initially the error appears once in a few days time but the frequency get higher as times goes by. mine has reached a point the error appears multiple times daily, luckily still under warranty and had the selector unit replaced.

Hi, I had this issue and had it fixed under warranty at Johnsons Skoda.

Out of curiosity does anyone else’s DSG make like an unlocking noise when you turn the engine on? It sounds like a pin is being released. It then makes the same noise when clicking the park button which I assume is the pin locking?

I think everyone's do. At least, mine does it when I switch on the engine and when I switch off the engine, even in P position.

I also saw some Russian guides how to do it yourself. Supposedly it is trivial - there is just some contacts that need bending.

But I don't think this is the issue with my car since this only appears during driving ... I am not that much bothered by the error that I would go and try to fix it myself.

...

Thanx a lot for this post! It solved my problem!

I followed the same procedure:

  1. I opened up selector switch section (I bought the tooling for this; I did not detach cables so I left the selector switch section in place but opened up

  2. Removed the foam piece

  3. Removed the solenoid
This really gave me a hard time. It was stuck very tightly, hurt my hands doing so

  4. Bent the clips *)

  5. Placed it back

  6. Tested it: problem gone

  7. Closed

The solenoid wire was broken; it might have been the cause of the problem or it happened during removal. So I had to loosen the other end of the broken wire from under the plastic (using a dentist hook) and solder it to the loose end still attached to the clip. Isolated it with shrink sleeving and it measured 5.5 Ohm again.

I wonder if they sell the solenoid as a spare part... I do not see it on Google, which is a bad sign. I guess you have to replace the entire switch electronics.

Hi All,

I have a identical issue to @Scubajorgen with my 21 plate Octavia IV that, whilst occasionally before, has cropped up more consistently in the last few days (suspect colder weather has had an effect)

Thanks for detailed post and step by steps,

I'll follow the above steps this weekend and feedback how I get on. 👍

Cheers

Hi, so I've taken the centre plate out, and unfortunately it's different underneath than what was posted before.

I've unplugged the cables and removed the combined trim / selector module,

I want to see the selector part number as its obscured. As that's likely the problem part.

I've released the 4x plastic tabs on the side, so it wiggles, but it won't fully release from the plastic housing.

It feels like there's something else retaining it, but obviously don't want to force it.

Any suggestions / instructions somone can point me towards please?

Thanks in advance

Sorry to hear it's different. Such a shame they changed the solenoid but managed to still use a part that get broken, seems like you have the newer version.

Can you specify the exact model you have and year and month of make? I am yet to take apart my selector lever module, the warnings are annoying but I don't want to do anything about it if not really necessary, I have the NX5 version
