Retrofit 13" Enyaq Display to Octavia Mk4

Featured Replies

Inspired by the Octavia Mk4 facelift I want to know if it would be possible to fit the 13" display from the

13" display in Octavia Nx/Mk4 - could it be done?

My key questions are:

- Has anyone tried it? Connecting the media box from an Octavia to an Enyaq 13" display?

- Would the display work with the current media box?

- Would the display have component protection?

- Will it mount.

Comparing these two listings the connections appear to be identical but there is a slight variation on the mounting bolts:

Enyaq display:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/305252666143

Octavia display:

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/134745706302

If I found a display at a bargain price, I'd be willing to give it go. However, the last thing I would want to do is accidentally activate component protection - that'd be a nightmare to deal with at the local dealer.

Complex I would say. Besides the software part ... screens are not plug and play, not sure if you would have room enough at the back of the screen inside the dashboard. Whilst the back side of the Octavia is flat, the Enyaq one is not, you have the flat surface where the connections are installed. Screenshot from the top of the screen.

Coding I'm not too worries about, but my biggest concern would be component protection - because I doubt my local dealer would be any help with that.

Sizing wise, the two bolts facing backwards appear compatible and there may be sufficient space back there, as the basic Swing unit doesn't have a seperate box and therefore needs the extra space - not as deep as the Enyaq unit but close.

I've attached a photo of back of the Bolero and also a photo from the fitting manual - item 2 is the air conditioner control module.

I don't think so.

Enyaq display seems much bigger, thus bolt distances will be different.

Just compare size of the plugs on Enyaq and Amundsen units with bolt distances.

One of the units above is a complete infotainment unit (MEN3). The other is just a display, that requires a separate control unit mounted behind the dash above the glovebox (MOI3),

Most Octavia's already have MOI3, your car is just poorly specced so has MEN3

The vehicle would require a new diagnostic gateway as it won't currently have DOIP.

The infotainment unit in the glovebox would require adapting to suit the vehicle spec and component protection removal.

The display itself will require component protection removal.

You'll require an activation code for the diagnostic gateway, to allow the features on the infotainment system to function. We charge £1200 for 8 features. If you require more, it would be an additional £1200 for upto an additional 8. Please see the attached for the licensed features.

You'd require additional wiring to relocate the infotainment system control module to the glovebox and to connect the control module to the display. You'd also require the ethernet wiring installing.

Thanks for chiming in. I've already got a MOI3 not a MEN3. I'm not even sure you can get a MEN3 unit in Australia - our base models are usually equivalent to a UK mid-spec as Skoda is positioned as a semi-premium brand here.

But I've got a 2020 Skoda Octavia RS with everything but Skoda Connect (OCU), heated steering wheel, and 360 camera - because none of those options are offered here.

I only posted the picture of the MEN3 to demonstrate to @Mario_Delgado that there is more space behind the display than an MOI3 display would suggest.

But to recap what I want to do, is see if it's possible to fit an Enyaq 13" display in place of my MOI3 display -
achieving the look of the new facelift Octavia minus the the MIB4 of course. But I have no idea if my infotainment unit would support that - I don't know if anyone would aside from Skoda because I can't see anyone who has tried it.

Interesting, let us know if you move forward, I will put it in the possible to do list with the area view.

I have been wanting to the area view retrofit too.

But I'm unsure if the kits listed on Aliexpress will be suitable, like this one.

I also spotted this set of covers on eBay.

What is the most deigning part of this for me, is the wiring harnesses. If I don't have to run anything through the firewall and it can be connected up within the engine bay then I'll be a little more confident.

You have to run the harness through firewall, at least one cable for front camera.

I guess that, in the wiring harness, wires going from the front camera to the control unit are coming without the connector mounted otherwise it would be a real nightmare to pass it through the grommet on the firewall.

Area view retrofit deserves a post for itself I think.

Since the facelifted Octavia Mk4 is coming with optional 13" headunit, it may be a more compatible fit to the pre-FL Octavia.

Will need to wait a year or so for spare parts to be available before looking into this option.

It will still be MIB3.5 (or 4), so different software. However at least brackets should fit.

Just checked the parts list and the facelift Octavia uses the same display as the current Enyaq with matching part numbers 5LA 919 606B:

Based on that, I'm fairly confident the display will physically fit in the dashboard - as the dashboard hasn't changed from pre-facelift to facelift.

That leads me to my next question, are displays (not the media unit box) component protected?

Yes, the displays have component protection on MQBevo

I would say, for me, more interesting question would be if it is possible to get the upgraded infotainment (and Cockpit) visual look of the FL version, on our current displays.

I guess that's out of realm of possibility?

I suspect the software is different given the updated look - I'd be surprised if the physical device itself is different but could be wrong. Once you've got someone with one in their hands and able to do a coding backup you'll probably have a better idea on that front.

Reminds me of upgrading the 4:3 monitor with cassette deck on my dads E39 BMW to the 16:9 screen. Back then it was just a case of swapping the screen and everything worked itself out. Things have changed 😞

Hello gentlemen.
Any update on this topic?

Im about to purchase the Mk4 pre-facelift RS, but the problematic infotainment is helping me to resist...
For me... implementing the facelifted 13" infotainment into pre-facelift car would be dreamy solution and no brainer :)
So im really interested in this topic, yet i wasnt able to find any more info about possible replacement than in this thread.

Thanks you very much :)
see ya

It’s a shame, I’ve been digging around this topic with no luck.

Back when I had an e38 BMW there was a huge amount of chat about upgrading different nav units between the 4 different marks, switching 4:3 screens for 16:9… unfortunately there don’t seem to be enough units sold (or just not a big enough tinkerer community) to make it happen.

I’m on the edge of buying the bigger screen if I can find a part’ed FL (as I suspect it’s more likely to be a direct fit physically), but it may be an expensive experiment.

I think the parts are too expensive and too hard to find at this stage.

Maybe in 12-18 months we'll see some Russians over at Drive2.ru attempt it or JLS MQB in Taiwan - they seem to be capable of retrofits other say are impossible or economically infeasible e.g. 360 camera and CANTON retrofits:

image.thumb.png.29bd71b404c5b09473ca87799d8fd861.png

Anyway, from what limited information I can find on MIB4, it's been described as basically MIB3.5 a kin to the MIB2 to MIB2.5 upgrade on the Mk3 Octavia.

The software base for MIB4 on is largely the same as MIB3.

Hello gents,
since i am a czech boi, i asked directly at the ŠKODA's customers service in Mladá Boleslav regarding the possible infotainment switch.
I described the topic, i would say, very detaily, mentioning all the part's article numbers and even pointing out the similarities of mounting brackets, etc..,
Although ŠKODA's response was as expected... They just responded "NO" in a simple sentence...
I doubt they even tried to think about it (even tho i see that they actually created a "ticket" (E1EA79367A424) for my case...

But i am still refusing to believe that this switch is not possible. Especially considering, that the facelifted Octavia offers both infotainment systems in the same interior (throughout different trim levels).
So for sure, this thing got to be retrofitable...  but i dunno...

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hello Gentlemen,

The only reason I didn't sell my ovtavia mk4 2021 is having the infotainment screen replaced by the new lovely 13 inch one, So this topic is very important for me, I will keep searching the web for any possible way, meanwhile enjoy your octavia.

This whole thread is reminding me of when I swapped the head units in my MKV Jetta. Pulled the old RCD310 out, unplugged, plugged in the new RCD510 and slid that into place. 10 minute job.

How times have changed.  For the better..?

Hello ppajak,

Thank you for the feedback, I'll be waiting for the good news. Keep the good work going bro

Dzien dobry ppajak.. Thats really cool.
Do you think you will be able to have the whole retrofited infotainment running 1:1 with the "proper" 13" infotainment at some point?
