Columbus MIB3 Nav Maps Update

Featured Replies

Hey folks!

I have recently purchased a used Skoda Superb iV L&K 2020.

Unfortunately I am not able to update the maps in the navigation in any way. I am using a Kingston DataTraveler Max 256GB USB Type-C Stick and I have downloaded the latest navigation maps following the appropriate steps for MIB3 from updateportal.skoda-auto.com.

I have a Columbus sat nav with the following details:
- Hardware: H12
- Software: 0330
- Navigation database: 23.6

Even when the stick is connected to the front, no message appears on the navigation system that the update has started. I'm not sure how this offline update can be triggered using an USB Stick.

I have left the usb stick connected in many sessions of driving so far, but nothing changed at all.

Could be that the USB Stick I'm using is way too big?

If you guys have any tips and tricks that could make this thing work, please let me know!

Thanks,

Alex

  • Hey, a new version of maps have just appeared and MartiniB shared a link for it. The new archive is called OI_P129_EU_202448_Offline_Update and it contains a folder named OI_P129_EU_202448_Offline_Upd

  • I will call them too. I give you an update if I have success on my side

I believe that the MIB3 unit updates OTA. You will need to connect your car to your WiFi. Then start the update.

Not sure if I understand your suggestion.. So the car is always connected to the internet, via eSIM and if you want the car to automatically download the maps, then you'll need Infotainment Online Services subscription which expired long ago for me. And how is this linked to the OFFLINE update that the car should retrieve from the USB Stick?

There was a discussion, I think even here on Briskoda that apparently offline updates are only possible in the countries where online updates are not available, like Russia (apparently it's locked in MIB3).

Have you tried holding Menu then clicking Update Software under System Information?

I was looking to do mine but I'm not sure it needs it:
- Hardware: H22
- Software: 0306
- Navigation database: 24.7

The UK update portal says to use USB for MIB3
https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/

Instructions here
https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/Download/Map-updates-mib3.pdf

I think there's some bad translation going on here though 🤷‍♂️

Hey Dave,

I have tried to hold Menu and after going to Update Software under System Information, I cannot select the USB Stick ( doesn't even appear as an option ).

I am indeed using an USB Type-C stick, however, in the front part of my car, there is only a Type-C connector and a 12V socket, but inside the armrest, there is a USB-A connector ( have not tested with that one yet ).

Connect your car to your home wifi, then download and try that way

once it’s downloaded you should be good to drive and install fully without needing to be connected to WiFi

So even if I connect the car to the home wifi, how can I download the maps? Do you have some steps for that? Also, is this possible without Infotainment Online Services subscription?

Do you know what the latest navigation version is? I'm driving to Belgium/Holland next week so don't want to break anything. I bricked my Octavia last year doing something similar 😂

That's right, most likely my maps haven't got updated since last year. I don't really understand the suggestion on using home wifi, do you know more about this?

Sorry my bad I was thinking of something else.

Allegedly mib3 doesn’t have a status bar for installing.

Try a 64gb card, make sure it’s formatted correctly as per Skoda guide, plug it in and leave it.

It should take around 40-50 minutes to install and will resume where it was interrupted like turned ignition off after 30 minutes

I cannot use a card, my car doesn't have a connector for that. Is it mandatory to use a 64gb stick? The usb stick i'm using has 256gb, could be too big?

Is your drive definitely formatted as exFat? I tried to update my radio logos individually today, first try didn't work, formatted as exFat then it picked it up but you can't update logos on the MIB3 like previous versions 🤷‍♂️

Yes it is, it was exFAT out of the box anyways, but I have formatted it again just in case, but still nothing really happens. Are you strictly using a 64gb usb type-c stick?

USB stick will do, get a 64gb one, should be dirt cheap these days

I used a usb A stick with an adapter. I've just put the maps update on so will see if it picks it up in the morning

I am having a problem with this also - I downloaded the file for my VIN from the Skoda update portal, extracted it to my PC and then copied to a 64GB USB drive (Ex FAT format), had this in the car (front USB port) for over a week and no change in the version of the Navigation Database - so I have tried it again -- when I get to the point where I am copying the files to the USB drive, partway through it says "3DO.NDS has properties that can't be copied o the new location" - so I accepted the option of copying without the properties - is this a problem that will cause it not to update when put in the car? I have also tried downloading the VW update but encounter the same issue when copying the files.

Any pointers gratefully accepted.

Chris.

One thing I did notice when I plugged mine in and it was read was that the drive appeared under the Media section, may be worth checking there as that will show that the unit can actually read it

So I plugged the usb stick and the drive appears under both Media section & SmartLink, as attached in the screenshots. So I guess that the unit can read the drive, but something's... still not right with it...

Had you unzipped them before transferring to the stick?

Already unzipped, yes, as you can see in the screenshot from the previous post, I only have the contents of the update on the stick

  • 3 months later...

Hi,

My USB Stick is in the slot like a month long now. I see changes in the map ( a main road appeared what was missing earlier), but I guess 1 month is too long for this sheity update. The Map Version is still the old one if I check it.

How long should I wait for this stupid method?

Can Skoda service make any forced update?

in Mk3.FL 2023 Amundsen 8" version date changed after one day,

longest trip were about 90 minutes.

no progress bar and message about finished operation if compare to my previous Mk3 2016 Columbus 8" 😞

updated from OTA loaded 23.12 to Offline 24.06
