Software failure not so Superb

Hi everyone,

I went to the dealer for an oil change, and while I was there, I also reported a few issues (bugs) related to the infotainment system: a black screen in certain situations, the camera sometimes not activating, and aggressive braking during parking maneuvers. Other than that, I haven’t had any major problems.

My car was manufactured in 08/2024 and currently has software version 2460. After some discussions, they agreed to update it to the latest compatible version, which I believe is 2630.

I would like to hear from those of you who updated from 2460 to 2630, did you experience any issues, or is everything working fine after the update?

Thx!

Mine is working fine with the 2630 software. No issues until now.

  • Hello from Latvia! I also bought a Škoda Superb L&K 2.0TSI 4x4 (delivered in May 2024). Everything was fine until October 2024 (I drove around 5000 km at that point). I got 7 warnings related to

  • My wife's Superb was updated a week ago on 2nd December and there have been no problems since. She drove 320 miles at the weekend and all was well.   She's finally starting to enjoy the car

  • I got my car back yesterday,  33 miles on, no problems.  I know that is not far, but went wrong after 10 miles when I got it . So, let's hope,  fingers crossed!

I managed to update to version 2630. Everything went fine. I’m glad I got rid of the black screen bug and the camera issue.

The only problem I’m having now is that the car no longer connects to the internet. The globe icon in the top right corner has completely disappeared. Traffication is no longer available in the menu, the Shop doesn’t work, and I get the message: “The connection to the Shop could not be established.”

In the top right corner, I also see a message saying that an update is available. When I press “Install,” it says that the application cannot be used at the moment and to try again later.

I should mention that the MyŠkoda app on my phone works without any issues.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas?

Is anyone here who got the car in the last month or so? Do you still experience issues with the infotainment or ADAS software? I wonder if the latest vehicles will get the latest fixes automatically. Mine is still in the manufacturing queue.

@ducu stai liniștit, nu sunt probleme 😀

He 😁, sper. Văd prea multe comentarii negative în jur (aici pe Briskoda e chiar bine) și mă cam bagă-n sperieți )

Sadly, my new Superb didn't even make it from dealer PDI to collection because of an ADAS software fault and delays in the dealer being able to take the update for a software flash.

However, I have a suspicion this was more to do with that specific unit rather than a universal problem - at least that is my hope because I have another on order for September. FWIW, the dealer sold our unregistered, rejected car within a couple of weeks for more than the deal we have agreed - something I need to bear in mind when the next one arrives!

Having said all this, it seems like our friends from Romania have trouble free cars, which is encouraging 🏆.

Here's hoping!

Mine is having the no internet problem again (grey globe). 🤦

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Yes, I went a bigger road trip this week. HU-SK-CZ-PL with no problem, then PL-CZ-SK-HU. The car disconnected in CZ on Thursday, haven't fixed itself yet. Dealership told me to do a factory reset in the settings, but the car says it can't be done for some reason.

Next week I'm going to the dealership so they can take a look at it.

Until then I'd be grateful if anyone has the solution and can share it! :)

After two years of software faults and three trips to the dealers, on every occasion they said everything was fixed, I have finally thrown in the towel

Picking up a Jaecoo 8 PHEV today, cannot imagine it could possibly have so many problems!

Last straw was when the front air vents broke, they ordered two new ones and three times I asked if they would have to take the dashboard out to fix them, and they were not sure.

Picked the car up and they said software replaced at 'base level' and new vents fitted and that there should be no more problems.

Drove home and checked the vents, still broken! (I know I should have checked before I left the garage)

Phoned them and they said they had replaced the REAR vents! Why would I ask about the dashboard removal if it were the rears, totally useless dealers as usual.

oh and the ignition came on when I opened a rear door later in the day , an original fault.

btw the the mk3 superb I had a few years ago had no faults or problems in five years of ownership.

@philsmith I am sorry to hear about your experience with your Superb. A competent dealer makes all the difference, whatever marque. Our supplying Land Rover dealer was great at the outset in 2017 but then lost all of the good people, becoming so incompetent that I dreaded any contact with them - "technician says it might help if you lay a blanket over the engine block at night to help retain the heat for the startup routine in the morning". That was their recommendation in the absence of an available diesel glow plug control unit, due to supply chain issues when JLR screwed up their UK parts' distribution centres because of an efficiency drive. Own goal there! Did our Velar V6 D300 start in the Italian ski resort of Madesimo? Yes, after almost 15mins turnover and a near flat battery. That's a £71k product in 2017 money. I guess what I am saying is that our collective experience is all too common.

Your post made me watch a YouTube video of the Jaecoo 8 Executive. Flippin' hec, it looks pretty good outside and the interior fit out is generally impressive too. As per usual, the reviewer was at the Jaecoo launch event and, as many other journalists have already stated about the resultant journalistic output, it wasn't the most rigorous or objective of reviews. Nonetheless, Jaecoo is a market disruptor and, if I was a current European or Japanese manufacturer I would be very worried.

Would I buy one? Goodness, no. Would I lease one? I might over the same period as the full manufacturer's warranty (by which I mean, discounting the long headline warranty duration and instead focusing on the core, non wear & tear element). So, three or four years then. As a lease, the majority of the risk sits with the lease company for what is a new entrant into the UK.

I say majority of the risk because.... a lot hinges upon the dealer network and parts supply. Sound familiar? If there are issues, serious issues, then some of the risk still sits with the driver under a lease agreement.

The lease looked pretty decent though. 36mths, 12mth initial payment and 15k miles per annum was coming out at £500 per month after a £6k initial payment. So, £24k over the three years then.

Why am I not ready for this? A few things. First, despite your personal experience with your latest Skoda, I am not yet ready for a jump into the unknown with Jaecoo. Not yet. Like you, from what I read, I have a low tolerance of faff and I really do worry that there's still a mountain of 'unknown unknowns' with these Chinese challenger manufacturers here in the UK and Europe. I just don't have the risk appetite for them yet, even on lease. I am a late adopter, not an early one or innovator.

Second, I am also not yet ready for a 1.5 Chinese engine hauling a large SUV around when the battery is exhausted. China is great at battery technology but less so with ICE. Nor am I ready for the soft, relaxed ride on the Scottish Borders' fast twisty roads where we live. Straight line? Yes, providing it doesn't wander in lane on the motorway like some of the others. Cornering? High centre of gravity, the mass shifts in the turn. Not nice. Been there with the Velar and, despite all the electronic wizardry that JLR threw at it, an SUV is still an SUV. And Jaecoo isn't renowned for it's handling, feedback and steering yet.

There's just too much mental baggage for a leap to Jaecoo yet. But, on first sight, the Jaecoo 8 appears interesting when specced thoughtfully (paintwork, interior configuration etc). I hope you enjoy yours and I congratulate you on being an early adopter. Jaecoo are throwing a lot at the UK market and, since the Chinese domestic consumer market is having a tough time at present and they don't have access / easy access to the US or EU marketplace, I get the business strategy here. They're new here but they're not new in China.

Finally, being the last of the Boomers or the first of GenX, I still prefer to buy and own stuff. I don't enjoy lease or PCP, having tried the latter once. A Jaecoo 8, any Jaecoo, only makes sense with a lease or PCP for me right now. I'm not yet ready for that model of funding our cars.

Meanwhile, I await delivery of our Superb and hope that I have a good experience otherwise I may just throw in the towel, join you and move to the lease / disposable / white goods approach to family transport that has become so popular these days.

Best wishes and thanks for taking the time to let us all know. Possibly a tricky pill for some here to swallow but I guess we all know that it's important to listen to the full range of feedback, not just the happy-clappy stories.

I’m also seriously thinking about selling my car. Just like the fellow member above, I’m sick and tired of the service staff and Skoda’s extremely outdated procedures.

I have a major issue with the driving range: the dashboard overestimates it by about 300 km. For example, my dash showed 320 km of remaining range, but when I pulled into the gas station, I managed to pump 69 liters! That means I was just a hair away from running completely out of gas. On top of that, the "Since refueling" fuel consumption memory resets on its own without me even opening the fuel cap.

I took photos and videos, showed them to the service advisors, but they just look at me blankly and don’t understand. I spend 30 minutes explaining everything, only for them to ask me at the end: "But is it a diesel?" or "How many liters is the fuel tank?".

So far, I’ve been to the dealership 4 times for this:

1st time: They reset a few modules.

2nd time: They updated the software to PV4.

3rd time: They disconnected the battery terminal (the classic "fix"...).

4th time (today): They did another update, this time to PV4 Plus.

I explicitly asked them to check the auxiliary fuel pump. I found other owners online with the exact same car and the exact same issue, and in their case, replacing that pump fixed it completely. The dealership's response? "We can’t find any error codes on the scanner, so we won't investigate any further without a fault code."

Today they also opened a ticket with the factory, and the response they got back was... to perform the PV4 Plus update.

Since the "Since refueling" memory keeps resetting by itself, I can’t track my fuel consumption at all. I’ve resorted to taking notes on my phone every time I fill up and doing all sorts of math just to make sure I don't get stranded on the road.

The second issue started right after the PV4 update. The suspension has days when it behaves normally, just like it used to, and other days when it feels extremely harsh. Even in full Comfort mode, I feel absolutely every single crack and bump in the asphalt, as if the DCC isn't working at all.

I’ve been paying close attention on every drive, and I even started checking the tires, thinking maybe the rubber had aged and hardened. I’ve tested different tire pressures (2.5, 2.7, 2.9 bar) – all for nothing. Some days it feels like a boat, other days it feels like the car is going to break in half. Same roads, same outside temperature, same people in the car. And no, I'm not talking about the well-known DCC "thumping" noise, but a random, structural stiffness.

So now I ask you guys: is it really worth spending €50,000 on a car, only to then pay inflated dealership prices for routine servicing, Haldex flushes, brake pads, discs, spark plugs, etc., just to have the service department treat you like an idiot?

I honestly wish them a happy bankruptcy. I’d rather just buy a Tesla Model Y and be done with this whole circus!

@Rigor , that is all infuriating. It seems as if modern cars are 'computers on wheels' and the dealers struggle, for many reasons, to understand what is going on.

I hope you get this solved soon or choose to let go of the car as both the suspension and the fuel gauge are difficult to cope with.

When we owned our Volvo XC60, our only car procured through Personal Contract Purchase (PCP), it came with Volvo's brand new 'engine architecture' which is marketing speak for a fresh engine design. Our car would trip into limp mode due to a design fault affecting thousands of cars. For 2.5yrs Volvo had no fix. Then, six months before our PCP ended, they fixed it. Sort of. Performance was blunted but at least it didn't trip into safe mode unexpectedly. And that was a Volvo. So called, bullet proof Volvo.

The only saving grace was that our local Volvo dealer was excellent. Still is actually.

Anyway, all the best with your Superb 🫣
