New post-cat sensor was delivered yesterday, and fitted just now. For the first time since purchase, this car is showing no fault codes in the engine ECU. 😁🥳

  • Injector and HPFP replacement appears to have made no obvious difference to anything, disappointingly. But having refreshed bits in those places can only be good in the long-term. Had a bit of a brea

  • However.... Just had a breakthrough, finally. I was making some test leads from the cables of the original oxygen/lambda sensors, to enable easier double-checking and load testing of the loom wir

Good idea, may well have been.

Now has a PASS. 😀

Currently on the ramps at the local tyre place getting alignment checked, as there were some inner shoulder tyre advisories.

Sawtoothing at the rear, I think, and just inner shoulder wear at front.

Looks like they're adjusting toe settings, oxy torch waving about.

The time for a funeral pyre is if it FAILS the MoT, not after it PASSES :)

Alignment tweaked

Front toe now looking a lot better, but camber a bit asymmetrical.

Something bad going on at rear left, wonder what I can do about that. Pretty sure there's no official adjustment there.

At this age of the car, if you have rear suspension alignment problem, it's worth looking at replacement of rear suspension beam bushes. Other possibilities include bent rear suspension beam if someone jacked up the car on the beam, or if the wheel hit a pothole.

Parts needed are 2x 6R0501541A, "bonded rubber mounting", 2x N10409903 M12 bolt and 2x N10106402 M12 nut.
They are easily replaceable and about £10-£15 each from major suppliers, but need to be pressed out/in using a set of large sockets and a long screw (though plenty of bush removal kits on ebay and similar at £20 upwards).

Worth at least a thorough inspection IMHO. HTH.

Lots of rain during the day yesterday, then hard freeze last night.

All five doors frozen shut this morning 😆.

Luke warm water had to be poured around the perimeter of each to free them.

Engine then wasn't very eager to start. wondering

Gummi pflege will be generously applied on Saturday.

Been mild since the above seal treatment, so no idea if it has alleviated that problem.

New question though.

Poor forward visibility on dipped beam reported by main driver.

Changed the H7 dipped beam bulbs for Osram night breaker ones but no improvement apparently.

Is it normal for the round lenses behind the front polycarbonate housing to look hazy and opaque?

The outer polycarb is pristine.

Yeah Pete, same on our MkII Fabia. Worst idea ever to fit halogens in projectors. I got around it by fitting a HID kit. World of difference and literally it was a day and night difference. I don't know current legality of HID kits but the tester can't touch them IIRC. Hide the ballasts out of sight if possible. The only other option back then was getting reflector units but I think the MkII Fabia and Roomster are now able to be fitted with Osram LED's.

Gimme 5 minutes and I'll dig out the Osram bumph 👍

If my eyes don't deceive me, there only appear to be H4 options for Roomster.

Ours has H7 for dipped beam and separate H7s for main beam. ☹️

Damn! Pete that's a bummer. Then I'd look for some decent reflector units from a breaker/ eBay/ usual suppliers etc.
Those as they are are absolutely shocking at night and it amazes me how they were ever approved.
Good luck and sorry that didn't help thumbup

Cheers Lee, appreciate the idea.

Might try encouraging the main driver to eat more carrots for now. 😁

The hazing may just be a dust build up. Can you get a cloth in to the back of them to try a clean up? I think someone on here alsonager to clean the front using a pipe cleaner arrangement somehow too.

Missed this post, sorry for not acknowledging.

Interesting thought. What was 'alsonager' meant to say? Also managed?

Sounds worthy of investigation, ta.

Driving about on Christmas Eve visiting relatives, the absence of cruise control was mentioned at one point.

So I had a quick look on partslink24 and ebay and ended up buying a kit yesterday.

Genuine NOS of correct PN per VIN.

Wasn't cheap at £150, but considering it includes new stalks, BCM and some sort of loom section, seemed reasonable.

Found a link or two on TeamBHP that makes it look doable with VCDS and effort.

Quite looking forward to a New Year project. Probably won't really start until springtime, but you know, in the pipeline. 😁

Ah sorry... Yep, typing on a phone... Alsonager did mean also managed.

This was the post I was remembering but was on a MK2 Octavia...

Might be another springtime project in the offing. Just scanned the car and got this, which was about 20 minutes into our return journey from Christmas visiting.

As well as the scaryish-sounding fault, the engine temperature (reported) looks rather low for the time since start-up, as does the system voltage at 13.9V.

I wonder what the deviation numbers mean? No chain replacement has occurred since (engine) factory build 165k miles ago, I'm pretty sure.

Found that the oil level was rather low, despite no external leaks these days. Must be burning some. ☹️

Has done a fair number of miles since I last looked, so not too alarmed.

Buuut, just this afternoon, went to re-check the oil level (fine) but noticed coolant was a bit low. Hadn't been driven for almost 24 hours when I opened the expansion cap to top it up.

Sickening sound of pressure release, stone (ice!) cold engine.

Oh dear...

sad

Bugger. I really hope nothing has cracked Pete 🤞

Thanks Lee.

Currently trying to dream up an explanation that isn't head gasket.

Hi Pete no idea what the weather's been like in your neck of the woods but have you managed to investigate any further yet?

Thanks for the interest.

Yes and no.

Seems not to be as worrying as first feared, but I don't yet understand why.

Main driver took it on a reasonably long trip (3hrs each way) this week, and checking of level in expansion tank prior to return journey suggested no loss of coolant or pressure-related change in level.

Will have time at the weekend to look at current level and to open cap and listen for any unexpected pressure.

Have temporarily stopped actively looking for the right spare engine on ebay. 😀

Sounds positive then and thanks for the update, Pete. Fingers crossed for you thumbup
