Heater windcreen - how do I tell if it is an original screen

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2022 sportline that I collected a couple of weeks ago.

It is supposed to have a heated windscreen and I wondered that as it is now almost summer (!!) how I make sure the screen is either original or is a replacement that is still heated.

On some cars you can see the elements but I can see any on this screen

Thanks

2022 Sportline would not have had a Heated front screen as standard.

If you have heated front screen you will have button circled in red above MENU.

Got that and read the other posts

Will have to wait until it freezes to check it!!!

Thanks

Hi

Rather than waiting for winter I would think a misted screen would be a good test. A couple of warm damp towels on top of the dash board with all doors and windows shut should get it misted up for you to determine if it is working. Or does it need very low temperatures to operate?

The Karoq and Superb use different technologies for heated screen.

This was changed for the 2022MY (which the OP has) as owners state in this Briskoda posting

im some cases look at the manufacturer marking.

The original fit skoda windscreen will either have VW AG marking or the Skoda badge.

If a windscreen has been replaced by a company such as autoglass they 99% of the time wont use an OEM screen, just one which is of equal quality so the branding will be different.

Also in some cases you can see small lines on the windscreen (I know this was the case with a mondeo I had with a heated front windscreen)

Would it show in the Consumers menu when it's on?

You could look for the Škoda emblem/logo on the screen glass, an aftermarket screen will not have this but other marking.

A Škoda replacement screen even though not factory original would also have the Škoda emblem/logo of course, but you'd hope if someone had gone to the trouble of fitting a VWŠkoda part that it'd be the correct one (you can only hope with the English motor trade).

Took a photo of the details on the windscreen.

No ŠKODA logo

I'm not an expert in anything so I'd check with other Mk3 Octavia owners on the forum on this site what makings they have on their factory original heated windscreens.

I see the VW AG but no VW or Škoda emblem or logos and as Berisford has pointed out it seems the same as that one on the Polish site which has it as a "SIESCAM" / SISECAM which might be perfectly good heated screen and possibly a supplier to car manufacturers but I've no idea or if they supply to VWŠkoda with a Škoda emblem.

As well as asking other Mk3 Octavia I'd test the screen heating in same or similar way to Geoff's suggestion.

Apologies to @s88urd i missed your post and so just echoed what you had already put.

Thank you.

The car needs to go back to the dealership soon (for some bodywork that the damaged!!) so I will get it checked out then

All of my windows (front, rear, and side windows) are badged VW AG the same as yours, so unless all of mine have been replaced I would say yours is at least a genuine one

I can confirm these windscreen details in your pic are exactly the same as my Karoq, which has the copper conductive (no wires) heated windscreen.

Thank you.

My 2023 SE L (with winter pack+) had the 'no filament' heated windscreen, which worked well over the two winters we owned the car.

We recently switched to a new Sportline Edition and see the heated screen fitted to this new car has the visible filament type.

On this basis either technology could be fitted to a Karoq 🤷

Probably a cheaper alternative, or whatever is available at the time?

Having had both I definitely prefer the copper conductive element to the visible filament which somehow I could always see a presence of wires. Perhaps it was the glasses I was wearing at the time.

I'm having the same issue on a 2022 Kodiaq sportline I have just bought. One of the main things I wanted was heated screen. And the button lights up on activates on infortainment etc, but I cant tell if it is actually doing anything. This is my label, so I'm guessing this is a replacement non heated.

Nothing has come up on mu OBD reader for it.

I wonder where I stand with the car sales garage (non main dealer) regarding this as it was something the car should have come with, but I'm not sure if they specifically mentioned it on the advert and they have deleted it now.

I’m fairly sure the AS1 code relates to a heated screen - when you say you can’t tell if it’s working, this time of year brings a good chance of frost, at the very least, condensation - my wireless screen works very quickly on both frost and condensation……….

I'm hoping you're right... I only picked the car up Saturday and it's barely fogged up what so ever so far. I'm hoping for a frost tomorrow morning as I need to move quickly to get this sorted with the car dealer if it in fact doesn't have it. Out of interest, how do you know about the AS1 code?

I can see all. The other windows on that car are of another brand and have the skoda emblem on, where as the windscreen doesn't.

Ah…..scrub that…..I’ve got my wires crossed, so to speak…..just checked our vehicles, the Superb with heated screen and the Karoq without both have the AS1 code…….sorry.
