Have I been stitched up?

Featured Replies

Good evening,

Can somebody please tell me how much a new oem throttle would cost (including labour) and how long would it take to fit. I have just been charged what I feel is an exorbitant amount at a Skoda dealership and need to get some facts right before complaining.

Skoda 1.4 DSG Petrol

Thank you

Is this just the accelerator pedal?

Hello numskull,

No it is the throttle body which has a sensor attached (similar to the attached image).

Kind regards,

03F 133 062 B ?

RRP is £519 + VAT (so £622.80) for genuine part

How much were you charged? (Part and labour)

Is the problem even solved?

What was the problem?

Sounds about right. I was quoted £435 for my Mk3 L&K drivers side mirror glass! The mirror housing remained unmarked, although I had to clip it back together after a crow hit it, as I was travelling at 60 mph. I phoned horton's in Lincoln straight afterwards from a nearby layby, thinking it would be £30-40 max. The spares guy asked me if I was sitting down before giving me the good news. Needless to say I let my insurance take the strain, as the mirror cover had swing backwards and scratched the window glass and trim.

Hello Breezy_Pete,

£519 + vat for part

£11.15 + vat for Gasket

£335.87 + vat for labour

There was no acceleration, went into limp mode (about 8mph), no ACC, no stop start, EPC error and engine management symbols on dash. I was quoted £1089 + vat but inferred they would replace the pedal sensor and throttle main unit. They only replaced the main unit and the reason I am querying cost is they said labour would be 2-2.5 hours. Would that be correct?

Regards,

I can't help on the labour cost, I don't have access to 'book' times.

That quote comes to 866.02. With VAT that’s 1,039.22.

Where’s the additional 250 coming from?

Hello Lee,

Original quote was for foot pedal sensor and throttle main unit, but they only changed the main unit hence the discrepancy. Now I know the part is the correct ridiculous price, I would be interested to know how long it takes to change it.

kind regards,

That reads like they did less but charged more - is that right?

The throttle body is pretty accessible - surely a decent mechanic would have it done in an hour? Unless something is stuck, it's a bolt on job and IIRC only the intake pipe needs removing.

£400 seems rather high...

Hello OccyVRS,

That’s what I thought. As you say, the intake pipe needs removing and throttle unit is held on by four bolts. I may ask another dealership for a quote to see what they come back with.

Kind regards,
