Unintended vehicle movement causing collision

Featured Replies

Hi we recently bought a nearly new 2025 Skoda Enjaq 2025 85X and three weeks ago the following happened to my wife on a flat car park:

I reversed into a parking space with empty spaces each side of the car.
I elevated the P switch to red light position.  I opened driver door and screen was on Goodbye.
I got out of car and closed driver door.
I opened rear right passenger door to remove a bag.  Closed that door.
Remembered I needed to turn off Interior Monitoring as dog was in the boot.
Opened driver door and sat on seat planning to look at screen. Didn't touch the gear lever.
Car started to move very slowly forward.
I assume I tried to use brake pedal but too late to prevent contact with a car crossing in front.  My memory of the Skoda creeping forward is of course like a slow motion nightmare as it was so completely inexplicable, so presumably my reactions were slow and especially so in a relatively unfamiliar car doing something entirely unexpected.

Serious damage to our car and the vehicle passing in front of our car, Nobody hurt,

HAS ANYBODY HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE ESPECIALLY IN A CAR With SIMILAR SEAT ACTIVATION SWITCH

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear of your mishap.

Can you clarify, was the vehicle driving forward on the electric motor - or was it rolling forward down a slope?

It was on the flat and driving on the electric motor

Could you have caught the gear switch with your elbow / clothing as you got in knocking it into D by accident and leading it to creep forward?

thanks Skomaz and Warrior193. My wife is certain that she did not catch the gear stick. Thats the puzzle. Could have brushed the brake pedal but it shouldn't move without the gear being engaged. She is not sure whether the door was ajar (apparently auto hold doesn't work with door open)

The only EV I've driven recently was an Outlander PHEV - to get that to move required the EPB to be released, the shift to be moved out of park and the throttle to be pressed - unless the Enyaq controls are completely different, it's difficult to see how all three conditions can be operated accidentally.
