Hopefully will be sorted nice and cheaply :D

One thing I'm still puzzled by is how the Highways Agency man ended up in a ditch in the first place!!

Chris

I dont see how a visual examination and not removing the brace the 'engineer' could possibly give a verdict like 'it'll be ok'.

I would still tread with care TBH

Chris

He Probably didn't have a strut brace fitted.....

hope everything turns out fine Emily.....

Do you let many strange men poke around your oil hole Emily :P

Please form an orderly queue here:rofl:

Are you sure you are not confusing me with someone else  ?

definiatly you!! stu was there at the time, we were talking bout what was in the tool kit in the boot. inc the towing eye.

Hey Emily, credit for helping the man in the van and don't worry about all the swines laughing at you, they'll all get bored and move on to something else. ;)

I blew a clutch up on a car once when I was towing another car out of a ford, the other car's engine was chock full of water, he thought 3 feet of raging river would be ok for a mkIII Astra  He got about 6 months of abuse from his colleagues.

Maybe we should start an anonymous "confessions of a motorist" section on here :D

If he knew so much about modding cars, why the hell did he let you go ahead and tow with a strut brace

One word.... Stupid!

This thread is getting some serious laughs on other forums!!

Another word - schadenfreude. Which miserable ******* decided to cross-post it then? :thumbdwn:

It is fair to say that we've all done something horrendously stupid in the past, whether it be cars or otherwise.

I admire your bravery in admitting it though. I wouldn't have told anyone :D

Wasnt me, but lets be honest Nick, had it been someone on the paxo sports club or clio sport you would have been  with everyone else. Double standards, for whatever reason, are a terrible thing.

Good luck Emily. I'm sure it will be fine.:)

Emily. Here's a thought.

If you get a PDA or similar with a mobile phone internet connection, you can post before you do somehing, just in case it's a bit daft.

Hopefuly you'll have got away with this one.

no doubt even emily will be laughing about it tomorrow...

Okay, a couple of quick questions -

I have had the strut brace taken off. Many thanks to Stu who talked me through the whole process on MSN. My wireless reaches as far as the car, so I was able to relay instructions to him. Thanks a lot of that  .

When the strut brace was off, I was able to see more of the engine. There is a fair bit of oil splatter around the engine. I have had to top this up.

The car does seem to handle less well, and I think it is veering to the right slightly.

I will get the 4 wheel alignment done tomorrow. I might also see if they can do one of those geometry tests done as well. I am not sure if the oil cap is bent and broken or it was not on properly.

Lastly, after I get all these bits and pieces looked at, would you drive 250 miles to North Weild to do a blast around an airfield the next day and then drive 250 miles home again?

Has my stupidity been posted on any forums other than the seat cupra one?

Had a someone in a saxo/corsa etc done what I have, I would think 'gosh, that is the sort of thing I would do'

Lastly, after I get all these bits and pieces looked at, would you drive 250 miles to North Weild to do a blast around an airfield the next day and then drive 250 miles home again?

Personally I wouldn't unless I was 100% happy with the condition of the car. The airfield is likely to put more stresses and strains on the car than normal road driving and if there's any doubt in your mind, you really don't want to be endangering yourself (and others) :D

Chris

As long as you have a little yellow plastic card in your pocket with AA written on it. (or something similar)

The fact that it is pulling to the right indicates that there is a problem with either the alignment or the geometry.

Take the oil filler cap off and see if both the retaining lugs are still attached to the underside of the cap, if they are then just screw it back on and it should sit back flat against the head. If they are not then you have to find out where they are in the engine.

As Chris quite rightly pointed out, the airfield will put far more strain on your car than normal road driving, so it has to be right.

Trackday insurance.

Might be not a bad idea, pricey I know, but at least you'll be covered.

Mmmmmm peace of mind

I've done some truly dumb things in my time, but most of the time I got away with it by scarpering before they woke up.

However, on a more serious note, having to carry a burning petrol can out of a garage was not a highlight in my life.:thumbdwn:

Is there anyone on here who lives close enough to E to nip and have a quick look at her car for her before she does something daft?

Don't know how the filler kneck is fastened into the engine, but is it possible that this has been 'unseated' causing the oil leak?

You can undo the filler neck and fit the cap straight into the rocker cover. I think Devonutopia has done it on the mongrel

Only Jason ........ :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Chris

Im in Exeter tomorrow

Has my stupidity been posted on any forums other than the seat cupra one?
