Light Assist Retrofit

Featured Replies

I just got auto lights installed on my FL octavia, the auto lights work fine, just got a question for people who have Auto Lights, when i turn the ignition on without cranking the engine the headlights come on when its dark outside, is there a way we can let the headlights switch on only after cranking the engine?

Thanks..

  • Sounds like the control unit is coded for daylight running. Quite a few new cars were by mistake at the factory.

  • Here is the wiring diagram.

  • I don't see a "arriving" heading or similar under my "Lights" menu... Been through everything but can't see it... Something missing perhaps?

Not that I know of. But then again, the system is doing what it's designed to do - if the light sensor doesn't receive a minimum reading, the lights will come on. And this is regardless of whether the engine is running or not.

If you don't want the lights to come on when it's dark and you only switch the ignition on, turn the light dial away from 'Auto' to '0' first.

Hi,

Might go to Skoda today to buy the auto headlight switch as my VRS has auto wipers and mirrors. Does anyone know the rough price of the 1Z0 941 431 E 3x1 switch (with twin fogs)? Don't want to go down there if it's really expensive!

Thanks,

Dan

About 40 quid from what I remember.

Thanks. Not too much then. Decided to pop down to Skoda and order it.

By the way, it was about £58 in the end.

Let me know how you get on i too have autowipers, dimming rear mirror, but i have xenons would that make a difference?

I have xenons too.

I have xenons too.

hmmm i think we have been conned mate lol most of the toys and not auto switch grrrr! :giggle:

Yeah, I read that cars with auto mirrors, wipers and xenons were supposed to have had the auto headlights, but some didn't get it.

This is the wiring to my headlight switch. I don't see a solid purple wire in there...

I'm assuming this means I'll also need the two wires, 2x 000979009. Is that correct?

Many thanks,

Dan

Its not necessary the wire has to be purple in colour !!

I have retro fitted headlights on my Octavia II FL '09

A much more specific test would be to remove the connector head of the wires and see if you have any empty block..

If all the blocks are filled with wires ,..... you dont need any wires only the new switch and coding !

Ok, I didn't pull the connector to bits. I'll do it tonight and have a look. Thanks.

whats the difference between the two switches? both auto but one has a funny shape at the Auto switc! :|

One has AUTO written in the auto position.

other one has TUNNEL SYMBOL in the auto position.

No functionality difference.

Maybe something to do with different country settings.

However not very sure.

I wonder which mine will have....

I wonder which mine will have....

i got mine from skoda dealer here !! it has a funny symbol !!

However it said Mexico on the box .....so maybe its because of that !

If yours is from UK then probably will be having the AUTO position.

Mine was the same, has the tunnel symbol. I pulled apart the connector and there is one wire missing so I assume I must need to order that wire.

Repair wire- 000979009E

Repair wire- 000979009E

I ordered 000979009. Don't know what the E is for!

Part numbers had been revised a while ago.!

Both of them Will work fine .!

Only that 000979009 - will require two wires

& 000979009E - only a single wire .

AFAIK

Ok thanks. Well she said they come in a pack of 5 so I'll have enough!

Where do I find the box I need to run this wire to? I've had a look where my knee would be but I can't find a panel to remove. What do I need to take off?

It's a fiddly process ..... If you've got a friendly dealer you can ask then to do it for you it's a 10 minute job .!!

The wire goes from the back of the switch to the bcm --terminal A pin 20.

However if you want to do it on your own ----here's how to go about it ...

Remove the switch

Disconnect it and hold the wire loom in place so that it doesn't fall back down

Remove the fuse box panel on the right hand side ( there's a small gap facing the driver where you can put a screw driver and open it)

The surrounding panel around the light switch can also be pried out using a sharp tool ( careful not to damage anyyhing)

The same fascia comes out on the other side of the steering wheel.

This will expose a few screws

Unscrew them and the entire panel is free to come out.

After removing the panel....just above the accelerator pedal there is the bcm....you will have to remove all re connections (4) and slide it out towards you.

LOOK FOR TERMINAL A PIN 20 ... connect the wore in the corresponding connector and screw everything back together.

You will need vcds coding after this.

ADL active.!

this is not an accurate guide just a rough draft to help you go about with it !

HTH.

Hi,

Thanks for the run down, now I know where to find the modules so that's great. Saves me removing odd bits of trim trying to find it!

One query, earlier in this thread it says to connect the wire to Terminal E, pin 14, not terminal A, pin 20. Which is right?
