Light Assist Retrofit

Featured Replies

Hi has anyone got a part number for the (tunnel lights)switch?

There's two different part numbers :

1Z0 941 431 for cars without front fog lights

1Z0 941 431 A for cars with front fog lights

VW switches are widely available from eBay for a bargain but it has red leds, so they won't sit to the interior as nicely. Skoda ones are very difficult to find.

Any suggestions where to look please?

  • Sounds like the control unit is coded for daylight running. Quite a few new cars were by mistake at the factory.

  • Here is the wiring diagram.

  • I don't see a "arriving" heading or similar under my "Lights" menu... Been through everything but can't see it... Something missing perhaps?

A Skoda main dealer would be a decent bet, I wouldn't think they are wildly expensive.

Are you sure? :) It seems that everything from main dealer here is atleast double the price than they normally go :)

But it doesn't hurt to ask.

Some things are surprising.

Just as an update

You can have both coming home and leaving home lights enabled without having light/tunnel assist

If you have Vag-Com you can enable both.

All you do then is leave your light switch in the headlight on position and the lights will come on when you unlock and stay on. Which is handy if ,Like me, you drive with your lights on all the time. Then when you lock up and walk away the lights will stay on for however long you have the time delay set for. Be warned you will get the good samaritan giving it "ere mate you left yer lights on"

You dont have to leave the lights in the on position. If you have them off then lights will turn on when you unlock and then when you turn on ignition will go off. Also they wont stay on when you lock the car.

One thing i will stress is that the lights will not come on over 85mph or when it gets dark/go in a tunnel. for this feature you need to do the process already described by VRStu and others n this thread

Thanks for the info but I already have the CH/LH enabled via vag-com. Also I don't benefit from the tunnel light function as we are obligated to drive with headlights on constantly here in Scandinavia.

The LH works just as it should, if it's bright enough the lights wont turn on when I unlock the car, only when I start it, but on the other hand when it's dark, the lights wont go out in between either so there's no stress to the xenons. As I have the rain sensor and autodimming mirror it registers the outside light correctly, so as I said I wont benefit much :)

I would only like to change the light switch to autolight one to have the 'always so nice' OEM feeling :)

Edit :

Oh, there's one more benefit I would gain from doing the proper light assist retrofit. Automatic lights for the dashboard. They would turn on when it's getting dark enough outside and turn off when it gets bright enough. Also I seem to remember reading somewhere that also the dimming is automatic after this retrofit.

Some things are surprising.

But sadly this thing wasn't. Price for new light switch assembly including the autolight -function was 90 €. Pretty expensive comparing that the VW versions are around 50 €'s.

What a shame....

yeah just a price today and its £65 for this switch at Liverpool Skoda, a bit steep for a switch so ebay looks more likely for me:)

Only problem is that there's very rarely Skoda light switches on sale. On VW version the illumination is red. Of course it might be possible to change the leds, don't know how big of a job it would be though and if the light switch is even possible to dismantle.

Edit :

Ok, took the plunge and ordered a VW light switch with CH/LH position from Welcome to TM Tuning - your # 1 source for VW & Audi OEM and aftermarket parts

The price is 65 USD, and now when USD is so low, the price was very cheap when converting it to euro. Something around 50 euros including VAT.

The illumination is red, but I'm going to look if it's possible to modify. At that price what's there to lose :)

Will report here how it goes.

Edit 2:

Just checked the wiring and it seems that I already have the purple wire going from light switch wiring loom pin 2 - > centr. electronics E pin 15!!? Pin 14 has a blue/white wire going in? Am I reading it wrong somehow? In Stu's picture the blue/white wire is going to pin 13.

Oh and I dismantled the light switch assembly. Piece of cake. The leds are not soldered to the circuit board, they're normal 3mm leds with a lens on top.

Got the VW light switch with autolight function yesterday. Sadly the face plate isn't the same size as in Skoda. It's a bit smaller so there's a small gap between the top part of the light switch and dashboard. No biggie, but the led change is.

The led's are SMD components in both switches and the swap DOES NOT WORK. It doesn't light up the green leds at all.....Odd as both have the same current, voltage and front resistor specifications.

Luckily this wasn't very expensive try as the VW switch was only around 30 € delivered and it should be easy to sell forward.

But good news is that the autolight function actually works. No need to add any extra wires in my case. Now I just need to start hunting the correct Skoda OEM part.

I found a skoda switch on ebay, it was quiet cheap but then they wanted £25 postage so I didnt bother.

Found another, does this help.

56 REG SKODA OCTAVIA HEADLIGHT HEAD LIGHT SWITCH SPARES on eBay, also, Skoda, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 24-Aug-08 19:41:13 BST)

Thanks. The price doesn't seem to bad. Only shame is that they'll only post to UK. I would need to find a seller who's willing to post to Finland. There ain't a lot of them around in eBay.

Can someone dig me the correct part number for light switch with light assist function a.k.a tunnel light.

I ordered a new light switch through a local Skoda dealer. The part number was 1Z0 941 431 E 3X1 (the last three digits are color code). But I'm still not convinced that this is the right part. ETKA gave following functions for this part number :

Sidelights, driving lights, front fogs, rear fogs, coming home and leaving home function.

Should the part number also have some sort of additional code eg. 8K3 in ETKA, which indicates autolights, sidelights, driving light and front & rear fogs.

So could someone please verify what is needed in the part code so I'll get it right? I think I still have time to change the order if it's going wrong.

Thanks.

I can see two numbers -

1Z0 941 431 D 3x1 if you don't have front fogs

or

1Z0 941 431 E 3x1 if you do have front fogs

1Z0 941 431 E 3x1 if you do have front fogs

Thank you Stu.

So it seems that I've got the right part on order after all...phew...

stu how do you know so many part numbers you got a parts catalogue there or you a walking talking skoda parts deptartment ;)

Reason says that the first option is correct. But hey, reason's been proven wrong before :D

I can't tell you everything it would ruin the illusion.

Got a call from the dealer today. My light switch has arrived, and it is the correct one (Dealer checked the switch during our phone conversation). I bolded the part number which my switch is.

Phew...

Will inform you when I've fitted the switch. Should work as I've already tested it with VW light assist switch and that worked perfectly. No extra wire was needed as my wiring loom already had the purple wire from factory.

Excellent news.

Yes, but expensive. Look posts from vwvortex forums. Some of the guys have retrofitted rain sensor and autodimming mirror to their Golfs.

If you don't have rain sensor, the light assist switch doesn't do you any good.

Thanks for that downtime, has any one in the Uk done a full retrofit of light asssit/rain sensor to a vRS??? Any one know where I coould get this done?

Bump. Can anybody tell me how to go about changing the coming home interval on a car without light sensor or rain sensing wipers?

Had these enabled, but they seem to stay on for 90 seconds, which is way too much for what I need, also annoying neighbors.

I can gain access to a VAGcom for a very limited time, so I might not have the time to get into each corner and look for the setting.
