Help..child toy shoved down exhaust pipe

Featured Replies

Plastic rolling pin to be precise.About 10 inches long. Can just see the end of it and it is going to drop in the back box:( Tried to get it and I can't.

Anyone had similar problem? Can I drive the car ?

I just don't have the slightest idea what to do or think at this very moment

On an X trail BTW but a car is a car and have no idea what happens next.

Thanks in advance:(:(

Can you jack the car up at the front? That might make it fall out?

...Can I drive the car ?

:(

I wouldn't try driving the car.

Try starightning out a wire coat-hanger with a small bend at the tip with a bit of chewed gum or blutack on the end and slipping it down between plastic rolling pin and exhaust?

just an idea and if im wrong say and also dont do it till someone agrees with me, but surely if you started the car the air coming through the exhaust would push it out????

Assuming it's not wedged in tight maybe worth trying the vacum cleaner hose, may just have enough pulling power!

Turn key on, start engine with immediate revs.

Yeah, good idea, or you could call it.... see if it responds :)

Lol.

Just start it up and rev the car, it will soon pop out. :)

Just don't stand behind the exhaust when its being revved, lol.

Start it up and rev it - should pop out, wouldnt worry about damaging the car - if it's totally jammed in there and completely blocking the pipe worst would be that the engine wont start that's all...

Could've been worse - if it was a sex toy for example....

I wondered about that but not sure if it'd be sticky enough

How about using coathange to make up a thing like they use to catch agressive dogs etc.

ie make loop in end of wire, then put a loop of string though. use coat hanger to place loop round rolling ping, then pull strings tight and remove whole lot (hopefully)

Good luck

Don't see why jackinng the car up and the front and then banging the exhaust in that area wouldn't slowly work the thing out of the pipe tbh.

People put potatoes and allsorts in the exhaust pipe as practical jokes - makes a bang when it comes out and car starts up erratically.

If it's plastic and deep inside expect to have a smoke cloud and a burning smell about for a whiles...

I'd reckon a vacuum cleaner attachment would be first choice.

If there is any space around, a long pair of barbecue tongs (I have some about 16" long) might work.

A simple bit of dowelling that you've put some EvoStick on the end (and given a minute to become tacky) might connect without pushing it further in? Crikey, it's all tacky is this sentence. :o

Could blast it with a hair dryer and see if it softens the plastic enough to stab it with a cup cook screwed into the end of a bit of dowelling or wooden broom handle?

Failing that, perhaps look really cross and say "You put it in there, you get it out!" Kids often think more outside the box than we do actually...

All from me. :ne_nau:

Good luck.

Thanks everyone. All the advice much appreciated (its why Briskoda is so good).

Going to try all of the above.Just worried it has gone too far

Might try the Mr Fawlty approach if it gets too frustrating!

Thanks again:)

Just start the engine, when the exhaust gets hot the toy will melt and smell a bit, but I wouldn't have thought it will do any damage!

No-one has asked so I must.

HTF did that happen????????

surely the small childs hand could be used ;)

Oh, and it wont 'fall into the back box' the back box has the pipe running through it, it's just got little holes in it inside the box.

should just blow out then with a bit of a heavy kick on the gas pedal.

surely if the toy isnt as big as the exhaust diameter the gases wont budge it? it certainly wont go bang like when people stick potatoes up exhaust pipes unless is it wedged in!

i would also imagine it will take a while for the heat to build up to melt the toy either. so a few quick blasts of throttle would tell you weather its going to come out before it starts to melt or stick the car out imoa

surely the small childs hand could be used ;)

Yeah, but they're a bug*er to sew back on :rofl::rofl:

As already said start car & rev, it will blow it out. (don't stand behind it whilst being done though.)

You can buy a gadget with like a claw on the end sort of telescopic but its Sunday and prob the motor shops are closed, could you not make a sort of a noose and try and slide it over with some stiff wire or start it up and block the exhaust for a second or two with a rag, And rev it up

put a short 90 degree bend then heat the end of a metal coat hanger , then pierce the plastic object , allow coat hanger to cool , then attempt to pull out offending item

old telescopic aerial with loctite superglue on it :)

undo 1 clamp, pull off backbox, shake about and put back on,job done
