What does the v Stands for in vRS?

Featured Replies

Excuse my english..:)..

I stand to be corrected, but....

I understand the "v" is from the name of the plant where the vRS is built. The plant is located in a town called Vrchlabi in The Czech Republic.

This is Skoda's "specialist equipment" (airbags etc) site, and also where it produces its "limited edtition" vehicles, such as the vRS, and the Laurin & Klement models.

Also, the car was originally badged as just "RS", but my understanding is that Ford kicked up a fuss about the RS trademark, hence Skoda "modified" the name slightly...

i think vRS sounds better anyway, and Ford's suck !! :p

Hope this helps :)

The V stands for 'Victory' as in 'Victory in Motorsports' ...it wasnt highlighted when I bought my 'RS' but Ford of GB owns the copyright to the 'RS' brand in the UK as Monkey Hanger suggests, so then Skoda started to use the 'v' prefix. I assumed that it was just the UK where the 'RS' is referred to as a'vRS' , Mange , do the Swedish dealers now use this name also? or still just 'RS'?

The car name in Sweden is also vRS, but people just call the car Rs....i don

Mange

Thanks for the info , the 'v' is spreading!!

I stand partially corrected then :D

Holland calling: no v's spotted in this part of Europe yet...

(But the "vRS" expression does have a huge cool factor, so I'm all for it.)

Which begs the question...

If some countries don't use the "v" prefix, what do they have embossed on their seats where we have the v logo ?

Oh, the v is in the logo alright - it's just not part of the car's

official name.

Ahhh....gotcha :)

Strange really, i think "vRS" sounds better than just plain RS...

Maybe its my anti-Ford tendencies creeping in again :D

The insurance companies over in Ireland know it as an RS T.

i was told skoda was the first to use the RS badge on a early 1960's rally car, then ford used it on the first rs, the 1600 rs escort (wicked car).

v is for virile

v is for virtuous

v is for virtuoso

v is for very nice car, much better than a 4x4

:D

A bit of Denis baiting Jon?

Much more relevant are:

v is for vacuous

v is for vague

v is for vain

v is for vauntful

v is for vaurien (my favourite!)

Time to play a trick on the dog........cow.gif

Or ....

vRS - Very Rapid Skoda

VRS

:D

"VRS" sounds so stupid! Please say/write RSas it's supposed to :D

What do you call the GTI in GB? LGTI? The M5? PM5? ;)RS RS RS RS RS RS RS RS RS RS RS RS RS RS

"VRS" sounds so stupid!
Christian, I wouldn't dream of being that rude because some of the vUK vRS owners tend to be 'sensitive blossoms', but you are spot on with your comments as usual!!!

PS I would emigrate to somewhere south of the Equator now if I were you. Tristan da Cunha or South Georgia spring to mind as a suitable places. And don't buy a return ticket...:D

Time to tell the dog about this post........dog.gif. She likes a good laugh before a walk.

i'm not a fan of the whole vRS thing at all. bought my car as an RS, drove it as an RS and sold it as an RS!

pop into horner's for the brochure and what do you get? exactly, a lovely rally red ( sigh ) skoda with 'Octavia RS' on the number plate. no 'v' in sight. IMHO, as mentioned, the v has been put in to pacify the detroit fellas and is not what the car was intended to be called. ask the guys who worked on the development - bet they would refer to it as RS.

< off my hobby horse >

i'm off for a drive in my BMW AG E46 330 TD ;)

It's called RS here in GR too. There is this racing V in front of it but nobody thinks of it as a letter of the alphabet. Rather a simple logo for the RS.

lol, how about a drive in a Skoda Octavia Combi 4x4 Elegance 1.8T ABT? (at least that's what the brochure calls it).

Mine is now, always has been and always will be a RS! I do not like the v, they wouldn't have let me join the RS Owners Club if I told them about the v :D

I really couldn't care less. When people ask what I drive sometimes it's an RS, sometimes it's a vRS. Can't understand why people get so upset.
