Ariel Atom vs Grinnall Scorpion IV

Featured Replies

What about a 2nd hand lotus elise instead ? Not blisteringly fast but great trackday manners.

Have to admit I've always fancied a kit car.

I fancy a Luego Locost. I'd like something to chuck a bike engine in as the power to weight is fantastic.

Mate dad does hill climbs and has a single seater with a GSXR motor in it. Not a silly top end but gets there stupidly quick.

Considered it - actually I considered Exige too til I saw the price - I like the vRS - something different and it seems that everyone has an Elise, if it weren't for that I may have one already! Another reason I liked the Atom is the STUPID acceleration. I would have a motorbike except for all the goons in 4 wheels not watching what they are doing and the Atom seems to fill that need.

Mmm

How about the Westfield Cosworth Turbo & the Diesel Octy, Similarish money & the best of both worlds

Not entirely sure that helps really! The price is so affordable, mind you that was last year.

I like the mid seat postion of the Atom and Scorpion - tried my friends Westfield and did not like sitting over the rear wheels - not my bag so much!

You are a bad, bad man putting temptation my way.

Buy it so I can't PLEASE..better your way then temptation my way. I wonder if the 600+BHP per tonne one is n EBay still at 11k.

:tempted:

Twin bike engined Westfield is so tempting.

So I tried the Grinnall

Then I changed my trousers - going to save my pennies and look at getting one next year.

It was a V V V V quick car (365bhp!)and seemed really jolly well put together - Elise seems like a rattley tin can by comparison!

Cornering was brutal and acceleration was just plain rude

There was an Atom at Silverstone yesterday - not making great progress TBH.

What was it against?

Was it a driver or vehicular problem?!

Saw an inpromptu sprint between an Atom and a Suzuki Bandit 1200 at the Cannonball start area this morning...2 runs...1 win each.

A couple of 911s (one of which was wickedly quick, it has to be said), and a big black Nipponese thing (might have been a 300SX, not sure)

The Atom at the cannonball looked... uhm... unusual :D. Certainly couldn't see myself doing 3K-ish miles in it in a couple of days...

I'd like to try the Atom - just to see what it is like.

The Grinnall was really comfy, was in it for about an hour and it was still nice to be sitting in unlike the Elise!!!

Wish I had taken my camera and filmed some of the overtakes the guy was doing - acceleration from 40/50 mph was like a bike.

Would be very interesting to see them both on the track:

If you fancy a run out drop me a PM.

We are planning to go to Rockingham at the end of the month, so if you fancy getting immersed in Atoms there will be 6/7 there

I might have to do that! Thanks!

Sorry - I've been off doing this dreadful "work" thing - yuck!

Nope won't be off anywhere I am afraid now - saving the pennies! I intend to go up to the motorshow at the NEC to see the guy who builds the Grinnalls to say hi and to let him know that I am still interested as he is up there with a demo.

What changes have you made to your Atom?
