How many miles from a full tank and which model ?

Featured Replies

Hi

Just put in order for new Superb - hopefully October delivery..........

I currently have a 2 litre Vauxhall Insignia Petrol Sports Turbo SRi Estate - I get approx 250 miles from a fill up - cost to fill £75 - mainly local driving - covered 3000 miles in last 12 months.

I have ordered a 1.8tsi dsg elegance estate - I know a lot depends on what type of driving - but what are people getting from a full tank - and also how much to fill up !

  • Had my 1.8TSi for nearly 2 years now and have recorded my fuel usage since day 1. Bought with 55k on the clock and now at 83k.    My stats are:   Fuel Cost in £ to date £4,677.28 Total Litres use

I've seen absolutely amazing (70+ mpg) figures on journeys that are downhill for the first few miles so the engine can get to temperature without having to do very much work. I find if I avoid pushing

  • I get around 40 MPG average (see my signature and spritmonitor account, I'm the number 1 in fuel consumption for the 1.8 TSI DSG!), but to reach this value as average you have to make some sacrifices:

As you say, it depends a lot on driving style and roads but my range states around 390 miles when full. I haven't calibrated the MFD data with any brim to brim calcs (probably never will, as I have a "it will be what it will be" approach to fuel consumption).

Fuel tank is 60 litres, refuel light comes on at approx 10 litres left and MFD shows a range of 0 miles when there's about 5 litres left. Therefore I guess a fill up will be 55 x by about £1.33 or the price of unleaded at your local garage.

Superb Greenline II Elegance Twindoor

700 miles per tank for a 53 litre refill

120 mile round trip daily commute on motorways and dual carriageways with no great attempt at fuel economy.

Just done 280 using just under half a tank in my 2.0 4x4 170. That was from Guildford to Hayle in Cornwall.

I filled up today, 703 miles to 52 litres of mixed driving.

250 miles from £75? I get that out of my M5!

You might want to browse the results at http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/overview/45-Skoda/400-Superb.html?fueltype=2&vehicletype=1&power_s=150&power_e=170&gearing=4&sort=1&powerunit=2 - they cover multiple cars like the one you've ordered. Bear in mind that most of them are in Europe, so will call the Estate a "Combi" instead. They're showing 27 to 40 MPG (UK), across a variety of drivers.

The car's warning light for low fuel comes on at around 10 to 15 litres left in the tank (assuming it's the same as my diesel estate); the tank itself is a 60 litre tank, so assuming you don't try to drive on fumes, expect to put in 40 to 50 litres each fill up, for a cost (at current prices) of around £50-£80 each fill-up.

I get around 40 MPG average (see my signature and spritmonitor account, I'm the number 1 in fuel consumption for the 1.8 TSI DSG!), but to reach this value as average you have to make some sacrifices:

  • Don't use the S2 for short trips to the local supermarket, we use our Twingo for those short trips instead. That car is also much easier to park in those small parking spaces.
  • Try not to brake. Always look very far ahead.
  • Don't drive too fast. I hardly ever drive over 120 km/h (about 75 MPH), most of my motorway cruising is around 110 km/h.
  • I've got 16" Michelin Energy Saver Tyres. Not only for fuel saving, but also for money saving, since they last about 80.000 km (50.000 miles) with my driving style and for comfort.

Superb V6 Estate

I think it's best not to look at what it does ;)

It's averaging 27.3mpg with town driving, and I can get just about 35 on a run, which sounds better than the insignia

Superb Combi Greenline: 1280 km on 52,68 l.

Superb Combi Greenline: 1280 km on 52,68 l.

69 MPG...nice!

Mine's only done 600 miles so far but still well over quarter of first tank left. On board computer showing 57.5 mpg so far.

The Insignia really drinks the juice........the onboard computer is showing 17mpg after having used half a tank and 130 miles covered - so the Superb should be a massive improvement - for me!

just got over 600 miles out of my first tank (a shade under 50 litre to refill) from my new 2009 Octavia 2 FL Laurin & Klement 2.0 TDi 140 DSG so average around 55mpg which is almost exactly what the car thinks it's doing.

My previous Octavia (2004 1.9 TDi 105 DSG) said it did 65mpg out of a tank but was again around 55mpg when measured at the pump - the trip computer was a little over-optimistic.

1.8 TSI 4x4

700km with 43liters : 4 persons in car + luggage +ac on all way.

2.0 TDI 140 CR 6 manual, brand new car only close to 2,900miles now.

Brim to Brim: 34.6mpg pure in-town 20-30mph zone drive. 51 to 54mpg 50-80mph motorway/A-road drive.

Max 56.1mpg recorded from a drive partly in torrential rain between Hull and London and Canterbury and back to London 7th to 10th July...

Normally refuel after 450 to 500 miles on a long run, each time 30 to 35 litres. Costing around 45 to 50 GBP... That's 1 pound per 10miles roughly, not bad for a new car.

  • 2 weeks later...

About 1000kms on a tank. Happy with that.

I've got the 1.8TSI manual, but the figures should be roughly the same. After 2500 miles of ownership, I'm averaging 35.2, mostly on 'A' roads and motorways so far, ALWAYS with the air-con on. At this kind of economy you'll get 450 miles to a tank.

Here are some tips that I've learned so far:

  • As andrehj said, try not to use the car for city driving, if possible.
  • Change up before 2000rpm; I know that sounds counter-intuitive for a petrol, but the torque just bowls you along. Of course, with a dsg the car will decide for you, but you may want to use your paddles.
  • When over-taking, be brisk and decisive: push hard then get OFF the throttle - high speed with no throttle input has a magical effect on mpg.
  • Over-inflate your tyres a tad: 32psi at the front; 37.5 at the back.

Hi Guys, (and ...of course girls!!! if any),

Got a MY2012 L&K twindoor CR170 and the best i have had on a trip is 73 mpg (steady 55mph) get about 628 miles to a tank.

It is brilliant around town!!!

On a run from Ashton-under-Lyne to Mcr Lowry to pickup me daughter i get 53 mpg!!!!

Just follow the golden rules!!!

If you can see the lights ahead are on RED then take your foot off the accelarator.

If you are going down a big hill why not coast instead of resting on the accelorator (if you dont touch the accelorator youu dont use any extra fuel but your spped is controlled by your gears), people going down Windy Hill on the M62 (the highest motorway in england) will know what i mean.

If you are constantly driving and touching your brakes all the time then you are not reading the road ahead (merely looking at the car in front).

See this all the time on the motorway, you get IQ0 come screaming down the third lane only to jam on 300 yards further down, whats the point?

You can hear the 10p's flying out of the exhaust.

Now my motor will shift if you put your foot down, but that doesnt mean i have to do it all the time.

Fuel wise my superb is running at about 11p per mile.

Superb II Estate (Combi) 170CR TDI Elegance Manual

I get pretty much 500 miles from brim till the fuel light comes on. At a push brim to empty would probably see you nearly 600 miles. At present prices my fill-ups cost around £60.

My Greenline II is still very much in the 'bedding in' phase for a new engine, but my first 4 tanks have each done about 750 miles. Haven't done a brim to brim test yet.

I drive my Supe in the following maner: Mondays 130 miles trip to place of work and on Fridays return trip. During the week I drive in Cumbria and do something like 1 mile to work, another mile to store and back temp home. During the week I see 18-25mpg consumption however motorway is much better and recently I had 41.3mpg on 1hr motorway and 1.5hr main road drive. It's not bad at all however it's still no match for my 1.8VVT Vectra that could achieve 43-44mpg on the same trip

My Estate, 1.8tsi with DSG, averages just under 38 mpg, according to the MFI. I am a fairly gentle driver and the car mainly does journeys of less than 20 miles with some longer runs. Speed is critical, in Germany last year it recorded 45mpg at a steady 80 but 30mpg at 60. I think petrol is best for shorter journeys as the engine warms up quicker and it is quieter.

1100km in a Greenline 2 Elegance with 26500km

I have no idea what distance I get from a full tank, I have never driven from full to empty. A less empirical method of calculating fuel consumption would be hard to get.

The tank is only 60l capacity. It's a pain in the neck having to fill it twice a week.

165 miles per 1/4 tank at 70mph...so 660 miles ish per full tank at 70.
