  1. This took a couple of years but it's finally out. REVO now offer a Stage 2 pack for GPF cars with a claimed 400PS / 562Nm These are just incredible figures because they are achieved without upgrading the downpipe and without removing the GPF's as REVO aimed to keep the cars fully road legal and avoid MOT issues. In some countries it's suspected that removal/absence of GPFs could result in direct MOT fail so maybe they wanted to play it safe? Essentially this "stage 2" is only backed up by an intake kit, an intercooler and a charge pipes upgrade, I'd personally call it a stage 1+++ more likely as there is no modification on the exhaust system whatsoever. Now, I'm still trying to get my head round what magic REVO did to hit such figures, and in particular to achieve more torque on a GPF car (562Nm) than what a pre-GPF stage 2 with upgraded catalyst (!!!) was making (520-540Nm) ... I've seen hybrid turbo MQBs at 460-480bhp that don't make much more torque than that to be honest. I don't take dyno figures too seriously as they don't always reflect reality, so I'd like to see some road performance data between stage 1 and stage 2 GPF cars to quantify the performance upgrade but since I have an intake kit already on mine and the remap for upgrading customers is reduced to a mere 100EUR currently, I'm only looking at the cost of the intercooler, charge pipes and installation to switch to Stage 2 which I think would be reduced to around 1K so this sounds extremely tempting... https://www.onlyrevo.com/product-details/mqb-20tsi-is38-gpf-performance-pack
  2. Well, picked up my new Superb iV L&K estate in Business Grey this morning from Rainworth Skoda in Sheffield. Very impressed so far. Got to say the journey home was not what I expected. The wife and I drove to Sheffield from Manchester this morning, setting off just after 07:30, arriving at just gone 9am for a 10 am collection appointment, We'd set off a little early due to the weather forecast. Drove over the Snake Pass, no problems, could see a little light snow covering right on the tops, but it was dry and roads clear. Set off home just before 11am, and headed back the way we'd come. It was raining a little by now. As we were passing the reservoir in the Derwent valley, the rain had changed to light snow. As we climbed, it got heavier and was starting to cover the road. We got to a set of temporary lights at some road works and could see cars turning around. a guy in a Range Rover stopped and told us about several lorries now stuck ahead, so it was a quick and easy decision to turn around and head back to Sheffield, where we picked up the M1 heading North to the M62 back to Manchester. So, the car got a longer run than intended, which I'm not complaining about. Added about an extra 50-60 miles to the trip, so in hybrid mode returned just over 50mpg average from a 75% battery on set off. Wife had the heated seat on most of the way home too! and I did try the heated steering wheel out too. As has been mentioned by others, I was a little disappointed that the removable torch has gone from the boot, but that's all I can complain about for now. It's now charging up overnight, and looking forward to the next drive.
  3. Have another look at this area in daylight and maybe take another photo without flash. Assuming you find nothing remotely resembling a crack, I'd say there's no real need to get it inspected. Pretty sure it's a shadow thanks to AGFalco's input. On the other hand, various places advertise free brake checks so maybe just bung it into one of those for peace of mind, but beware of inevitable attempts at upselling if you do. Might be better taking it to a known-to-you garage who might check it free of charge anyway.
  4. PHEV need to be plugged in to gain the benefits, otherwise it's worse than Toyota hybirds from 1999 due to extra weight of battery. 20 years, very little progress from the legacy car industry. (with Skoda Superb PHEV) To be honest, with the requirement to plug in everyday to get any reasonable economy....... I personally think it makes more sense just get a pure EV.
  5. I now live in the hills above Matlock in Derbyshire and we had a brief period of heavy snow which began to settle. I have a full set of Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons Gen 2 which I had from new in February. Ideal tyres for UK which mostly gets mild winters. They performed superbly on the snowy roads yesterday.
  6. I used to be a computer field engineer, doing 30 to 40k miles a year in company cars. They were replaced every 3 to 4 years, so always had at least 110k on the clock. They were mostly Cavaliers, Vectras and Mondeos, although my first one was a mk4 Escort 1.4. Every single one was pretty much as good as new when it went back, everything still worked fine. Only 2 of them needed anything outside of normal servicing - a Cavalier that needed a new fuel tank because the mountings had rusted on it's first MOT, and a Vectra that left the factory with a porous inlet manifold. Don't be scared of high mileage if the car has been properly maintained - most company cars are serviced by the book.
  7. I frequently get small stones caught between the stone guard and the disc which usually squeal when cornering or braking. They sound like a dry overheating bearing! Reversing sometimes clears them, if not I poke the stone guard with a small hammer handle through a gap between the alloy wheel spokes which always lets the stone fall out.
  8. If you take the deal then as you are paying some money then the gearbox should get a two year warranty. This wouldn't be the case if you got it done Free of Charge. Myself I'd say £700 as a final bill is not a bad outcome.
  9. I'm not sure what made the noise you heard, possibly just a stone caught between dust guard and disc, now departed? As for the bar you mention going over the top of caliper and pads; there is another underneath. They are what prevent the caliper and pads being rotated around with the wheel and disc when you brake.

    Or do what my ILs have done, stuck them in the shed with naff all miles on them waiting on me selling them. Shame I’m almost 600 miles away.
  12. If Ingrams Ayr are getting it in they maybe said it could be 2 hours to do a diagnosis. But then the Fixed Price Servicing and Maintenance is the first 30 minutes for £60. Maybe the person with all the gear and more than an idea does not need 2 hours and can pin point the problem within 30 minutes from setting down the work sheet and plugging in. If fault diagnosed within 60 minutes then a bit of a fraud to charge for a 2nd hour. If they get the job to do even charging the 2nd 30 minutes is taking the pIth.
  13. I doubt many buyers would care. It's been garage serviced, if it still looks good and goes well they will take it. Your trusted garage makes a good point though, Skoda full service does very little. E-RootToot (or similar) is the world's expert on what is and isn't done on a main service if you need any advice look at one of his answers to the many questions on this topic.

  15. I have V rated winter tyres on to slip along at 70 mph when weather conditions allows and the Max speed is only 93 mph anyway.

    Just sold my car after more than 8 1/2 years. Would not have sold if I didn’t have to due medical reasons as I can not drive a manual anymore. Very sad to see it go but the new owner is very happy. It was in extremely good condition with a full FMSH and at 99350 still on original disc’s and pads as I had always used the engine to do most of the braking. 60 mpg regularly achieved with 70 plus at times. All this was to work and back while on holiday to Scotland, Kent and Surrey at 70-80 and still got near 50mpg. Anyway gone now so need to wait until the hybrid Bear comes out.

    I ordered the standard Karoq 1,5 TSI 4x4 DSG within the 2-3 weeks period when it was on the Slovenian list in February 2019. Had no worries about possible kangarooing as I noticed the considerably higher emissions compared to 2x4. I was right. Very happy with the car.
  18. Adaptive Cruise Control is standard. £685 gets you 'Travel Assist' which includes 'Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control' amongst a few other things. Agree though that £595 for the rear view camera is way too much.

  22. @nickVe It helps only if the pressures for a 1.0TSI is the same as for a heavier 1.5TSI. Maybe someone with a 1.5TSI could post what is on their car.
  23. Hi Guys Just a quick update. The dealership rang last evening to say that my car will be longer than they thought as they are not absolutely sure it is the windscreen that is leaking. They have the car all stripped out, carpets trims and headlining and there is definitely a leak but they want to be sure it is the windscreen before they order one, so it will probably be next week before I get is back. I just hope they are capable of putting it all back together properly. As far as the ride quality is concerned I am happy enough with the general ride and cornering but I just find that over holes and bad areas of road surface it is terrible. There is a strip across the road just up from my house where they cut a strip out to lay a cable., it's about 150mm wide and goes right across the road. Inevitably the infill has sunk and is now about 50mm below the surface and I have tried driving over it at various speeds but it always jars the car so much that I find when I can I come to an almost full stop and gently run over it. There are several bad holes around my town and I now know where they all are and make a conscious effort to avoid them all. It is completely different when driving the Golf as I can just drive in a straight line and hardly notice any of them. I appreciate they have to harden up the suspension setting to stop an SUV rolling but my daughters Qashqai is just like the Golf so it can be done. On the oil burning issue as I have said many times before it seems to be the 1.5 petrol which is the worst of the bunch. When you get a good one they are great, quiet and no oil consumption but when you get a bad one you get both of these problems and I don't believe VAG know why. You would think in this age of computers they could work it out - or have they????????????? and is that why the 1.5 in the Golf I have been using is like night and day different, but they just won't admit it. I do think for a £28k+ car the Karoq should be a lot better than it is - I do think mine was made on a Friday afternoon at five to knocking off time.

    The 4x4 models have fully independent multi link rear suspension whereas the FWD ones have trailing arms and a torsion beam. Having driven both, I didn't notice a huge difference in the ride quality. However, I wouldn't consider anything other than a 4x4 model. I've seen countless posts from owners of FWD models complaining of wheelspin when taking off raplidly. I think that most FWD tall cars are plain daft. Weight transfer when taking off sharply will inevitably result in wheelspin. Also, if you're coming from a Golf R, I'd have thought you would be disappointed in the performance. Maybe best to buy a 190 and have it remapped.

  29. Just bought the black MK1 vRS in the classifieds. Got it home yesterday evening but as yet haven't had time to go over it yet. I have high hopes to be able to bring it up to a similar standard as my previous silver car above. We shall see............... previous owners photo.
  30. Worth checking if cleaning throttle body and crankcase vent would solve the fault codes. EGR is a bit of a “catch-all “ for these problems. My valve kept jamming, few hours work sorted it for free.

According to everything I've read about the correct plastic wheel trims for the Yeti (or, at least the earlier Yetis ... not sure about later ones) the wheel trims on the Czeckozlovakian site are different ... they're not RIFs. And for me the oempc.com site won't display as it's blocked by Malwarebytes.
  34. Pay your insurance and move to a nice area. If some scrote wants your car they're going to get it. Not so long ago cars like Subaru Impretza's were very desirable for get away cars. They would break into your house to get the keys, and if they couldn't find them they'd hold a knife at your kid/wife's throat or start breaking your fingers. In that case you're going to hand over your keys, codes everything. Tracker won't do much for you.

    Must been out for a little drive in the little bit of snow we’ve had, mostly to try out the winter tyres before the proper snow arrives this weekend. Booooooooootiful day up in the hills. Glad to report very happy with tyres.
  37. It may also be a waste to clog up the dpf and pay for a replacement filter. I would argue you need the right tool for the job and that is definitely a petrol. Can you afford to keep what you have until a petrol comes up at the right price?
  38. The old maxim used to be avoid diesels if doing short journeys as the engine will not warm and nowadays your dpf will not get to work effectively. Your journey distances seem okay but your overall annual mileage is so low it suggests short journeys could still be an issue. Personally I would say you are better off with a petrol version based on the figures given. For context, I'm on to my 2nd skoda 2.0d and have never had an issue. My current Superb is a cracker of a car, 64k mile, 3.5yrs.
  39. I have a 2016 2.0L Diesel Estate and although I have only done 60k miles it has been absolutely faultless so far.
  40. Is it still the case that the speed rating is the 10 minutes a tyre can last without it self destructing, so 11 minutes on a Y at the rated max might get interesting (not on a Superb obv.)

    When I last visited the drums on the missus's Fabia, I ended up replacing only three out of four shoes. The fourth was probably only 25-50% worn, TBF. The genuine Skoda kit o'shoes I'd bought from ebay was flawed on the basis that two of the shoes were identical instead of being mirror-images. Unfortunately I started on the O/S of the car where the parts were correct, and hadn't performed the wise 'pre-check' to make sure everything was correct in the parts I was aiming to fit. So when I moved round to deal with the N/S only one of the new shoes could be fitted. May well have been two years ago. Could have been more. No issues reported or experienced when I've driven it. She's quite a reactive driver, so does a lot of what I'd consider unnecessarily harsh braking. May revisit it in the spring if I remember...
  42. Brihtnez, I have the same model with 18'' rims (Scala 1.5 DSG) and under normal conditions (not heavy cargo) the tyre pressure should be 2.3 bar for the four tyres. I do have the sticker with that info on my fuel cap (right now i don't have a photo with me but i will upload it later).
