Drivers window not working
Seems like the winder mechanism has failed, sometimes the drive cog on te end of the cable snaps off, you will need a replacement winder mechanism usually from a breakers yard which will come without the motor, normally they are arond £20-£30 to buy, only downside you need to remove panel again and take the glass out to replace the mechanism, had to remove one guide from the frame to get glass out but is a diy job just need to careful with the glass

Monte battery
I have always used the Yuasa 5000 series 5 year warranty the last one we bought was the YBX5096 80ah and the car was part exchanged 4 years ago but the person who bought the car from dealers still has the battery fittedsio it's a least 7 years old, they run about £115 now but try the sites you might get a deal expensive battery but worth it as it lasts

Squeaky front shocks, should I be worried?
Had a squeak on my mates car when going over bumps and it was the cover inside the spring that protects the ram on the shock it was perished, he wanted to just remove them but as I pointed out if he did the shocks would fail in a few weeks so better to replace the shocks in advance and fit new covers, when removed we also found th top rubber bush mount was on it's way out and we think this also added to to the noise problem, both shocks and mounts were replaced we used gas struts/shocks as the ones fitted were gas filled

Cabin rattle.
Came accross a rattle that turned out to be the eye level vent at the front it was cracked behind the slats due to someone using one of those clip type holders for the phone, as you said didn't appear all the time but when it did rather annoying, had to remove the whole vent and replaced it with a good used unit from a breakers yard cost £20 if i remember managed to pry it out think it was 2 clis ontop 2 on bottom and 1 on each side replacement just clipped it and the rattle stopped

Fabia mk2 headlight base replacement
Yes sorry you will need a spring clip to hold the bulb in as it will fall out without it you might also need the rubber cover too as this keeps it dry from water splahed up from under the car and grill, both might be available again from a scrap yard or on ebay in parts ,sometimes it pays to message a seller to see if they have a broken headlight that might have the bits you want

Monte Carlo 2014 - tyres
Upgraded Fabia's have bigger alloy/ wheels and low profile tyres fitted as standard linked too the performance and handling, so changing the tyres to a different profile is not really a good idea, also it will effect the fuel and speed of the car, we have a mk3 fabia which i thought might have 16 inch rims but turns out they are 17 admittidly i don't really like the low profile as they are more prone to damage than the standard wheel size but hay ho that's how it is would not recommend swapping for normal tyre size might be a bad move in the long run, PS can also effect your insurance if you have a accident if non standard size wheels and tyres are fitted to the car worth thinking about

Semi-catastrophic rear axle / shock failure
Wow not seen this before really looks like a metal fail, anyway a used axle is fine just check or replace main bushes before fitting, and check brake lines etc watch out for damaging the ABS sensrs you will have to replace them if not careful, perhaps have a closer look at the parts that have failed on yours, changing the beam is a bit of a pain but if the car is good it's worth the struggle, have had to change beams on some cars due to stub axle damage from worn bearings so this seems worth the effot

spare wheel
Take the wheel out and then check side walls near the rim also look in the gaps of the tread for any sign of cracking if so myself I would replace, I did this on my old Fabia and just used a buget make to replace as normally you might only ever use it once, my old Fabia was 11 years old when this was done.

Is the Skoda fabia mk2 hatchback front bumper same as the estate model
As long as the model numbers are the same like NJ5, the only difference are the back doors and panels on an estate model

Reversing sensors help with fitting
Previous post by KiethCheetham is a good pointer as I did very simular on my MK2 estate the only thing that I did extra was move the beeper up to where the boot light was and used a scotch pad to fix it in place , I know the proper kit fits the bleeper in the nearside door pillar recess and control unit is under nearside rear plastic panel but it's a real pain to get tis out (had to change rear 12v accessory socket), priced a whole kit and was comoing out at around £500 from dealers and that was not fitted!!! each genuine sensor is £96 each and I have fitted a new one to a mates car you do need to remove bumper for this and you have to break the old sensor off and glue the new one in place this kit was a lot easier and much much cheaper and it does work ok, my only advice is if you can try and solder all connections where posable and heatshrink other connections also make sure when locating through the rubber flap make sure the flap can lie as flat as possible after otherwise you will get water coming in, mold MK2 has gone now but sensors were still working when it was gone

Fabia Mk2 1.9 PD engine cutting out when hot
Don't know if this will help you, had somethng simular to this on my mates car,we landed up changing the fuel pump in the tank and it cured the problem, could not find what was wrong with the old unit but the only thing that we could come up with was that the fuel pipes in the pump seemed very soft were not leaking but might have been letting in air somehow between the two layers of the pipe but it beat us to see what was wrong changed the unit went ok after job done, paid around £50 for a pattern replacement I seem to remember but you could try the stealers first sometimes they have old new stock they want to get rid of hope this helps

Reinstalling driveshaft flange — how to compress spring?
Did mine when doing clutch change by supporting box on wood and as suggested pushing down hard with extension and tool but I used a tommy bar and had the drive in the middle and got the misses to hold the extension bar straight while pushing down with 2 hands eithier side of the bar worked for me

Monte 1.6tdi start issue
One of the most common faults like tis is that the rubber air intake pipes are not sealing correctly, mostly happens after a service where the filter has been changed, the car thinks it's going to stall so instructs the ecu to increase the revs to stop a stall but then it corrects it's self when it doesn't happen, check around all the rubber hoses on the filter and turbo connections and make sure there is no cracked pipes might even be a small air valve tube cracked or broken causing this problem

VCDS help local to Cardiff?
Had a simular issue with my old MKII bumper off to stop water ingress, reattachedc bumper no working sensors, but had a chat with a mate and he said if the car inside makes a beep sound when selecting reverse it could be the connection un it in the boot, in my estate it was on the right hand side looking into the boot behind the plastic panel not far from the filler pipe, but was a pain to get at as the panels take ages to get out, the unit was not faulty but just needed a clean on the connections why this happened by taking bumper off i'm not sure but they started working agin, he also told me that sometimes the vcd check might show that the offside rear sensor is faulty but will in fact be the nearside one that is so confusing

Rotational Squeaking from front wheels
Might be but the most common issue is the pads and caliper, look at the pads first if they have any shims or compound sheet on the rear if not this could be the issue, te next thing to look at is the caliper realeasing the pad from the disc this can be checked by jacking up the front and rotating the wheel if it's a bit sticky then itcould be the caliper piston sticking or more commomon the slide pins which need greasing DO NOT USE COPPER SLIP GREASE use a good quality silcone grease for the slide pins alsocheck the condition of the disc and the rust circle around the edge this needs to be removed also

Fabia Scout 2011 Driver's side dipped bulb change
Is your car a diesel model, if so you will need to unbolt the filter housing and move to one sideso you can then get at the headlight bulb fitting, use a pair of work gloves as you can cut your hands badly on the sharpe edges , I have bigish hands and can get atthe petrol version easily, failing that go to halfords and buy a new bulb and pay for fitting around £10, but they will not fit a side light bulb and some won't do the passenger side

Skoda Fabia MK2 Electrical Issue - Common Fault or big issue?
Have you checked the big fuses in the box under the bonnet and the connections going to them, have also heard of a broken wire from the positive clamp to the loom and also came across a bad earth from body to battery, there' s akso a crcuirt board and relays under the steering wheel which can be faulty can't remember what they call it but it does have a name something like stable control unit, a mate had to replace the whole board with a used one but he found if he thumped under the wheel on the panel it did start working but he never knew when it was going to fail again it was hit and miss

Alarm system.
Try the alarm first get in with the remote lock the car and wait a bit then move around see if it goes off if not it it might be a fault in the wiring mostly it's the door connection from the car to the door it's clamped in with a pull over handle, it gets wet at some point and causes problems, to get at it the best way is o remove the door stay so you can open the door wider than normal then prise out the rubber cover pull the handle clip away from the connection and remove the connector, give it a good clean a spray with wd and i used a good quality silicon grease on the pins then put it back together then get the rubber bck in place not forgetting to replace the door stay

Engine oil specification for Skoda fabia
Well don't listen to that rubbish the best oil to use is fully syn and buy a good quality oil don't use what is the cheapest as many CHEAPoils are recycled or mixed with whatever, driving in this country with the cold weather most of the year myself would use a 5w 30w oil as this will cover most temps, my old fabia mk2 did over 100,000 miles before getting written off by a careless driver --- changed oil filter and oil every year and used the longlife oil as recommened, never used oil betwwen services and engine was used in another car and still going strong today so it does matter what oil you use PS also use a good quality filter not the shop bargin type they don't filter the oil correctly

Water in spare wheel well.
As suggested start with the hatch seal check it's fitted correctly and you can remove the seal run a bead of silicon around the hatch edge and refit the seal, rear lights can also cause this issue as it only uses a sponge type gasket which is very poor, don't use a sealant as you will not get the lens housing back off without breaking if you need to do a bulb change,I bought a 1mm sheet of rubber of the bay and cut the shape out then used a silicone grease smearered over the rubber and refitted housing job done, it can also be the wiring loom seal that goes into the hatch needs to be resealed failing that drill a drain hole through one of the lead/rubber seals in the boot wheel well space allowing the water to run out+

2008 fabia
Seen this many many times car is jacked up people go around nushes and control arms pulling on tem and say "these are fine mate" 95% of the time the drop links are to blame you need to jack the car up support the body then jack up /tke the weight of the wheel one side and then start with a pry bar and start checking links bushes etc, looking new is not always a answer they need to be checked for wear, a steering rack issue could be the monts or if inner joints are worn it would clunck every time and you would have wandering issues and strange worn tyres

H7 bulb retainer clips.
Don't buy 100w bulbs if you can't see with the bright 55w bulbs then you really need to think about giving up driving these bulbs are illegal to use on the road, ok for off road etc, they wil cause many people to flah you as you will blind them and quite a possibility that you will melt the headlamp fittings and could cause a fire be warned
