  1. Interesting that. I've seen many more photos in similar condition and quite a few on the net far worse as well, even at 30k miles, some sugest lowing the interval, given the state of yours I too would want to clean it up. In contrast to that picture, I have done the haldex coupling used on the 4wd coupling and there is no front haldex diff coupling only the braking system on the front of my 4motion car. The same or a very similar pump is used and fluid is identical. On my "new to me" used car, Dec 2015 registered, with 56k miles (I don't think it has been driven lightly), the strainer was spotless. The oil was not perfectly clean and the change was probably in order. I really doubt it had ever had the haldex fluid done before either. I'm very confident the pump and strainer had never been cleaned before because the bolts and wiring appeared to have never been moved or touched and it is tricky getting it removed from the housing. An observation and conclusion I make is that the front diff haldex coupling is under higher duty and more susceptible to containments cloging than the same system used in 4wd coupling. My car is a Golf Mk7 but MQB platform so mechanicals still relevant. Photo below from my car recently. nb. The discolouration on the screen is not clogging, if you zoom in it is just the oil colour and the shading due to the picture and light source.
  2. No one will be able to say for sure without inspecting! However, that camshaft correlation error is not a good sign corresponding with a rough running and showing at cold start. Presumably you never had the timing chain and tensioner changed out to latest revisions? If it is the timing chain slipped, you could be a lucky one without damage or just some valve damage. Or it could be toast.. I would not start again, more damage could ensue. If you a mechanically experienced or wish to diy it, then you will need to engage in some careful diagnosis that does not cause further damage (assuming the engine can be recovered). If you want to "see if the timing chain tensioner has completely let go, with the engine off, you could remove the upper timing chain cover and check for loose or flapping chain. But what next. Probably best is to take it to someone who has the capability of doing the inspection, diagnosis and a repair at a reasonable price. I would add to that that they would need to have experience on this engine. The engine intake / valves and variable timing are not for the feint hearted
  3. If it has it there will be a control module called sound, soundactor or something similar. IN that module is the level of the soundaktor. 0% is off. 100% is fully on.
  4. Aha. he was mistaken then in that it could never have had android auto in the first place. Mirror link is different, as you and I both know. Guess he needs to find a phone with mirrorlink or upgrade the MIB or put up! Tks A
  5. @Michaeldavis39 says "android car play worked fine on previous motorola". I assume he means android auto. What options are displayed when pressing the menu button? For VW, composition media 3Q0 035 842 A, which I assume is pretty much the same unit, was MIB2 from MY2016 around September 2015. What manufacture date is your vehicle @Michaeldavis39? Also, assuming you have the android auto option under menu, what does it do or report?
  6. start / stop codable to not operate though isn't it? it's useful in traffic, at traffic lights with a long change sequence but a pain in the 3ss when stoping at junctions and reverse parking or revering into driveways etc etc... I would like to default it off or get it to remember the previous setting.
  7. I have the OPs error on a mk7 golf R. I bought the car with the fault, I knew about it but it does seem disappointing they are so failure prone and Expensive as well! I'm not sure I will fix it, even with a 2nd hand part.
  8. The 7sp dry clutch DSG hasn't proven as reliable as the 6sp wet clutch that came out before it. There was also the recall in many markets and in the uk some sort of tsb or product action to change the oil used due to issues it could cause with the internal electrics. Given yours has a new mechatronic 2 years that should obviously dealt with now. Who did the previous work? How much warranty was there. I think you need to go back to them. The behaviour indicates a problem.
  9. Needs cleaning first. Then maybe a protectant will make them a lot less noticeable, autoglymm rubber and plastic protectant is what I use, others may also be as good or better, to the extent you may not need to replace it.
  10. Oil scraper rings, which for the 1.8tsi has a TSB released and required upgraded parts, pistons, conrods. Not a cheap repair at all. There should be something similar for the 2.0Tsi. But, check the other cheaper go to things first. You may want to pull the plugs and check as well.
  11. Have you searched or read the later threads in sticky on 1.8.2.0 Tsi engine failures at start of forum? It is very likely you are stuck with it now. Long life servicing does this engine no favours, what is the oil / filter change history like? Check for leaks by taking undertray off, replace PCV / Fine oil separator, Could get turbo inspected make sure that is not pushing oil. After that it is really only one thing and an expensive thing to put right. I have (had, awaiting collection due to sale) a 2011, manufactured in April 2011. 70k miles. And mine uses very little oil. Like maybe 0,5 to 0,7Litres in 8000k miles / 12 months. So it is not "normal" I'm afraid.
  12. I found a local garage who agreed to have a quick look between jobs. He agreed it was hard to isolate. From driving he agreed left side, probably rear as it doesn't change that much when loading unloading. Then he put it on a ramp and hand spun with stethoscope. Thought it was front. Then, last option was to run the car at 30 to 40 mph in gear on the stand and he said he's 90pc confident rear! I paid for the diagnostics. Will probably change the rear myself and take it from there, fingers crossed.
  13. Yes, thanks all. At least I'm not alone. I may try a local garage and see if they can run it on the ramp as @lastgaspsuggests.
  14. Yes, I've replaced one or two in other cars before and always could detect it with movement. I'm 95% it's a bearing. It's a drone that picks up after 35mph. It changes slightly, backs of a bit steering to the left. It seems to get a bit louder after 5 / 10 min driving and then just stays the same. It varies with road speed not engine revs or if your drop down a few gears. But no movement. A vw specialist I dropped into said it "shouldn't" normally be very hard to identify but they don't always show movement unless very bad. Then he said he can't look at it for 5 weeks! But any garage should be able to... Then again, I feel a little defeated, I haven't paid for anything other than a aircon recharge and MOT in 6 years.... DIY for everything I can. I don't think it is a stone. I've had a look to. I could here a few bits if corroded brake disc or a little stone in between the two faces of the ventilated disc upon turning the wheel but I don't think that would sound the same. It's such a familiar bearing growl / droning noise... I even pulled the 4wd haldex fuse and drove around the block but exactly the same, I'd already changed the fluid and it looked good, so I thought unlikely... Yeah, I have done. it does seem to back off turning left. But not entirely. Front or rear....
  15. Anyone have a good way to identify which wheel bearing is growling? I'm pretty sure it is left of car. Not sure front or rear. Jacked up car, no movement in any of 4 wheels I could detect pull and pushing top and bottom of tyre. It's a 2016MY Mk7 golf 4motion, but some commonality with the mk3.
  16. I doubt that is the noise? I have a 2011 and have not noticed such a noise. To me more usual suspect are things loose, heat shields, disc backing shields or the trays are not properly secured. The metal shields commonly the fixing rusts out as well.
  17. Mmmn. that is weird. I haven't heard anything like that. Given that it stops when the climate is on, perhaps it is still linked to HVAC somehow. A stuck flap or servo. I really doubt it is the ful line around the fuel filter. Did you screw the plastic bracket back to the floor pan or cable tie it? Even, so, even if you did not, I doubt it would rattle like that at idle and there is virtually no extra length in the lines around the fuel filter anyway. Have you tried a HVAC flap reset and get a full scan (VCDS or similar) and see if any errors on the HVAC?
  18. Maybe consider getting an interim Mk3 vRS, not the exact spec you want, until something perfect comes up? Or get something as a real stop gap. I just sold my 2011 mk2 FL estate DSG and it is Ulez compliant! Funnily enough I must have been looking at the same cars as you as well. One or two superb 220s came up in SEL trim but sportline rarer and 280 rarer again.
  19. Depends on what dealer though and terms of sale, skoda assured etc etc....
  20. I thought it was going to be the usual N80 evap purge valve. But not in your circumstances. Does it happen if the engine is not running but the fan to the climate control is on or switched speed. As it is in the cabin it sounds like a blower fan fault at first listen to me.
  21. yes. tried that as well. and yes there is often a lag until autotrader appears even if photos are to follow.
  22. I was looking for something similar. Since December last year... Never found it, so as @themanwithnoaim says you may struggle. Also, the private market seems almost non existent.... still....
  23. So with a bit of consultancy with @langers2k and someone on another forum, I got to the bottom of this. We all agreed it seemed mechanical and it was. I realised even the old module was operating entirely correctly out of the door with the pull cables disconnected. Connecting them, I then noticed with the internal handle pull cable connected the release lever on the module was partly pulled with just the cable connected. Turns out the cable had been pulled and the sheath pulled out of the end fitting and this caused the wire length to shorten and be pulling on the lever even when not being operated. I have tried to squish the sheath back in the lengthen the cable length and it is currently working!! It was confusing the old module wasn't showing the implausible signal error like the new one did! And the old one didn't click locked and unlocked where as the replacement did. But either work now. I'll be selling a new rear door lock or two now! Someone had been in the door trying to fix this probably several times as the big plastic internal access cover plate is missing!
  24. Hi All, Some help would be most appreciated. I'm out of ideas. I've been battling with a door lock since Friday when I bought a new to me car. Before purchasing I ran a full scan and no fault was showing on door locks. I ran more than one before and after drive. No faults showed on doors. When I got home and locked the car, I discovered the rear left door could be opened as if it was unlocked. Pulled door card off and listened. Nice solid clunk when locking or unlocking but every time the door can be opened. Car interior lights came on and went off with this door, so I though ok, only thing it can be is the lock actuator module. So I find a genuine one reselling on ebay for cheap, dealer price eye watering £190+vat. I install it today, and when locking this new module now did 2 locks, one to lock and 1 I presume that then unlocks it. VCDS then showed the implausible signal on this replacement door lock. I cleared tried again but it kept coming back. In frustration I removed and plugged the original back locked it, locked it, fitted it, Unplugged the loom and closed the door. The door could not be opened at all (as I'd removed the loom). So physically the door lock mechanism can lock. I then clipped the loom back in and now this old one is showing implausible signal! In addition there is a databus error. But in measuring blocks, when locking the rear left door shows closed and locked but door handle open it first pull from outside. Nb. This is on a golf mk7 but hoping my friends here on Briskoda have some ideas or experience to help me out. Full Scan below.
