  1. Hi there I need to change timing belt/water pump and need to find out which antifreeze is in car. Not sure if its pink or light red? I got the car recently and don't know what is in it. Am I correct in thinking that any VW G-12/TL774D spec is ok or would I be better to change it rather than top it up? Not sure if pink and red are compatible? Alasdair
  2. Hello there, Needing to order full filter set and timing belt etc but have come up with a question. There are two oil filters listed one has manufacturer restriction hengst and the other seems standard. Is there any way of telling which one is fitted to my skoda without removing filter. I suppose I could just order them both but its seems a waste. I found on the fuel filter casing UFI but cant see anything on the oil filter housing to help identify it. Its a 98 mk2 estate 1.9tdi bxe. Any help welcome.
  3. Thanks for the reply, Is it fairly easy to get to the connector? It did cross my mind it might be a wiring fault but it makes more sense to be something to do with the dashboard display etc. Also any reccomendations on a good electrical contact cleaner. Alasdair
  4. No I havent touched the car lights. I first noticed the dpf light glowing really dim, almost not noticeable on a very dull day. When I turn the headlights on set to dip the DPF light comes on brightly but also the front fog lights symbol on the dash appear with the dip light symbol. As said the foglight switch is off Have no idea why the two should be connected? Got me a bit confused Alasdair
  5. Hi there hope someone can point me in the right direction. I noticed my DPF warning light is on on my skoda octavia estate. The problem is its only on when the headlights are on. The fog light symbol on the dash is also on permanently when the headlights are on even though the fog light switch is off. If I have the sidelights on there is no dpf light and no foglight symbol. Also when the fog light symbol is on with the dip headlights the fog lights are not on either. I hope that makes sense? When the lights are off I can just see a very dim DPF light but not all the time. Has anyone any ideas. Its confused the hell out of me. I cant see that the headlights would be connected to the DPF sensor at all Alasdair
  6. Hi there new on here but looking for help. I am looking for someone to help with access to VCDS or similar. I had a fabia estate 1.9tdi which got written off recently so in desperation I bought a Seat altea xl 1.9tdi as they took the courtesy car back (I also bought an Octavia estate 1.9tdi its a long story). The immo is stuck on in the SEAT. It happened the day after I bought it. I tried both keys and reset ecu by removing battery and touching cables together but no result. It could be the key that lost its code or key reader in ignition has failed but sorry dont know much about ecu etc but I believe it is possible to disable immo using Vag-com /VCDS. I am in Inverness and just thought there may be someone out there that could help. Local Seat garage is expensive just to plug into the car. God knows what they would charge to fix the problem. The car was cheap so don't want to spend a fortune on it. I know its a SEAT not SKODA but thought I would ask if there is anyone nearby or any further help or advice I could try would be most welcome. Many thanks Alasdair
  7. Hi there. I have just joined and need some help. I have a Skoda fabia estate (ambiente) 56 plate 1.9tdi and need a drivers side wing mirror glass. The VIN is TMBHS46Y574093453 The mirror has started to delaminate and I reckon I need a new one for the MOT next week. I had a look online for a cheap replacement but there seems to be a few variants listed. Mine is a plain silver mirror which is heated and electricaly adjusted. It doesn't seem to have the dotted line for a wide angle? I am not sure if it is the small or large mirror casing. Any help would be appreciated. Alasdair
