  1. Unlikely to have been manufactured like that and if they were it would have been immediately apparent visually as the groove width would be reduced. The second picture could fit that description if the disc was not located correctly at 90° to the cutter axis but if you look that too is showing more wear at the centre of the pad area like the other disc. Putting a straight edge across the pad swept area will show the uneven wear which would be exactly the same on an ungrooved (they are not slotted) disc. It's a 3rd world problem of the same ilk as red painted brake calipers looking dirty.
  2. 10mm 3/8" drive extended socket dropped in the scuttle area during the last service.
  3. I'm no defender of french garagistes but what they did in this instance was very prudent. Now we know it was not a gearbox out job I think the MIL light coming on now is simply a coincidence but the clutch master cylinder is definitely something to check, I seem to recall breaking the latch on mine when struggling to remove it and I think it is now tywrapped in position, they may have done the same but not secured it hoping that it would remain in place.
  4. Allowing for any typos the récepteur is the slave cylinder which if the concentric type will include the release bearing and émetteur (not the term I would use in French) can only mean the master cylinder.
  5. Unlikely to be related to the clutch job unless they disturbed something during the work. My advice would be to have a VCDS scan done but owners in France are thin on the ground. I have VCDS and will be back in the SW (Bergerac area) by the end of the week if that is any help to you. That said I dont think that OBD11 would miss anything that VCDS would find, are you able to interrogate the individual control modules with OBD11?
  6. You are the only person has wanted to name the stock control system of Autoglass. Now I realise that its a side window and not a windscreen I am even less surprised at the delay.
  7. If it were those, and I reckon that it is then jacking it up is the wrong thing to do to replicate the noise. I think its likely to be the top mount bearings but you will be almost certainly be changing both anyway. I replaced mine and all was quiet for a few months but one has failed and it has returned, they were both knackered with the balls falling out when the spring compressor was used, luck (bad) of the draw with the new pattern part ones.
  8. Squealing yes, rattling yes, steaming no. A trapped stone would not generate even the tiniest fraction of the heat generated by normal gentle braking.
  9. Spot on! And even with the re-order levels there is often a wait for the manufacturer to make a new batch and when there are hailstorms everyones buffer stock gets used up quickly and lead times extend. I bet if you looked on 7zap you would find 20+ different variants of windscreen for the MK3 Octavia. In that respect there is more likely to be stock of a windscreen for a Classic car with only one screen variant, a screen that may even be used on other vehicles, the Elan and Consul Capri spring to mind. A Split Screen Camper is as bad an example as believing windscreen repair companies use JIT, the glass is flat and can easily be cut from a sheet of laminated glass as a one off, even toughened can be doneas a one off on a quick turnaround, there is no forming required.
  10. I hadn't realised that the 312mm in the OP was the disc diameter of an intended upgrade, I thought it referred to the hose length. As Owen has said, use your eyes when doing the conversion, don't put your trust in the experience of others.
  11. Longer is far more likely to cause potential brake failure through rubbing than "just long enough" I would go with just long enough every time.
  12. Thankyou for that, it gives me food for thought. I've only seen in the back of a Touran once, I recall these seats folding into the floor and no spare wheel as a consequence, am I right in deducing that the 5 seat version has standard folding and removable seats for the middle row like my Galaxies? And does it by any chance have any under boot floor storage?
  13. The switch has 2 contacts, it sounds like the new one has the second contact giving a brake on signal, this one may well be a high signal going low on activation for security/safety reasons. It could also be a shorted or open circuit to the ECU or possibly adjustment (if its adjustable) whereby the switch is not changing state. You know the correct signal is going to the body control module as the brake lights are working, I would check that the output to the ECU changes state at the same time as the one to the BCM.
  14. A Touran was another consideration until I realised there were no 4x4 versions, when that is no longer a necessity I would consider one again. I had one of the first Galaxies (95) and a 98 Alhambra, they were superb for my work as with the 3rd row of seats removed they had a large secure luggage area that could easily be extended by folding or removing the rear seats, the Octavia Estates MK1 & 2 were almost as good whilst being a much smaller package, I was never sure how practical the flex folding seats on the Touran would be also the lack of a spare wheel was a concern although I have that same problem with the Yeti. Can you have a Variofloor on a Roomster? - Pretty sure you cant on a Touran, its something that once you have and use you can never do without, I have all manner of tools, spares and survival equipment in mine, it was a real struggle to lose 1/3 of the stuff to fit under the much shorter variofloor (from a MK1 Octavia) fitted to the Yeti. Blackbird, thanks for your advice on the Roomster vs Yeti, how do you feel the Touran compares? Editted, thanks to Roottoot as well, I had not seen your posting.
  15. Now that my big removal trailer journeys are done and when the bomb site is levelled and the 8m caravan has found a new home I probably will not need the 4x4, I will certainly have been royally peed off with the compromised load space by then especially the solid luggage shelf/cover, i may well have a yearning for a Roomster by then, it's an itch that wont go away. A question for Blackbird, does the Roomster drive like a hatchback compared to the Yeti? IE tinny, choppy etc or more like an Octavia? My problem is never having driven a Fabia maybe they are much better than I had percieved.
  16. I rev mine to the maximum 2.5K rpm while parked using VCDS, there is little or no pressure drop at 1kRPM but a significant amount at 2.5k, figures from the top of my head from a few days ago, 500kms since last regen, calculated soot load 13. something grammes, measured 3 or 4 grammes, differential pressure at 2.5K rpm about 38 whatevers, probably hectopascals. 17 at tickover looks very high to me but I would have to check my previous readings to be sure. I recommend you do the test at the standstill rev limit.
  17. If you are drilling blind, or at least blind on one side you do indeed need good hearing and also a highly developed sense of feel on the drill in order to avoid damaging something else. I am partially sighted and do many jobs by feel and sound, in fact in the dark or in inaccessible areas that cannot be seen I am no longer handicapped but gifted.
  18. "Dropped" infers gravity.
  19. I reckon a Roomster Scout with AWD (doesn't exist) and a further suspension lift, a 1.9TDi or 2.0TDi engine and leather trim (probably doesn't exist) would suit me fine! They should make another new Frankenstein Roomster with the front end of an Octavia and the rear end of a Superb and the AWD system and ride height of a Yeti. When I first saw a Roomster or was first aware of somethng that had hitherto been anonymous I had to follow it, I could see it was Skoda Badged but what was it? Then working out it was a Roomster my question was "wotsit made from?", frankly it looked like a Fugly Frankenstein. But when I learned what it was actually made from and the space it provided I realised it was an inspired design, the looks have grown on me, the higher spec ones with metallic paint colours almost lose the cut n shut between the front and rear doors.
  20. I doubt that during normal times they would ever have got beyond the stage of dreaming up a business plan and pitching for investment, the Covid pandemic fell at the right time for them, the banks who make their money lending money had nobody but failing businesses to lend to. Right place right time, in normal times they would have already gone bust but the investors like compulsive gamblers keep throwing money at the table hoping to recover their losses, the longer they and their ilk continue the greater the eventual collapse.
  21. What RPM was the differential pressure measured at?
  22. I agree. I could not afford to run in the engines I built on a dyno so would stink up & cruise down Bury Hill (not far from you) in the early hours of the morning repeatedly on full throttle in 3rd or 4th gear loaded with ballast. I have seen engines dyno run in and its amazing to see the blow-by reduce as the power goes up, occasionally if the honing had not been done correctly and the break in was not happening they would tip Ajax powder into the intakes.
  23. I don't have a "car" menu but there is a settings menu somewhere, from memory it has time & date, winter tyres, litres or gallons etc, I'll look tomorrow.
