  1. I did that and also recoded the canbus gateway so that it would not be looking for the now diconnected BT module, not sure if I did the latter because of messages on the MFD or to prevent the fault code coming up for no comms with the BT module.
  2. Mr Muscle enema required.
  3. Have you connected what they call the protocole box? Are any other canbus inputs being displayed on the radio? - doors open, reversing sensors, steering wheel controls etc? If it was not sold as a direct VAG replacement (which the faceplate shape indicates it is) then you will need to select the correct manufacturer comms protocole in the factory settings, you will have to ask the seller for the factory code to access them. I dont know where the amp is, I have fitted two cheap versions of your radio to a 2006 Octavia and a 2015 Yeti replacing a similar OE stereo and had no problems with sound. You may in any case need a later revision Canbus gateway if you have battery discharge problems.
  4. Those are the only sort of gestures that I could visualise, I guess I just dont understand gesture control, how on earth can you gesticulate to change complicated climate control settings or even simply turning up the heat on one side, the other or both, change the fan speed etc? Let alone all the other things that they ahve now done away with the switches & controls for?
  5. According to VCDS its function is to celebrate the indicators Perhaps there is an audible one for the virtual cockpit that says "Three cheers for the indicators! hip hip - hooray!"
  6. The best result of my decrunging the EGR butterfly valve aside from the dramatic increase in flexibility and fuel economy was the removal of anxiety that the uncontrolled shut down had been causing me, it felt and sounded exactly like a failing DMF. And like many anxieties I never realise just how much they were affecting me until they are taken away. I bet many owners have been stiffed for a new clutch & DMF only to find that the clonking & shaking on shut down continues.
  7. So does a choke! An EGR choke or strangler would be a better term.
  8. The bearing is not listed as an individual part, the part number is for a whole compressor, if you measure yours with luck it will be a standard bearing albeit probably expensive, I would use the pulley and bearing from a second hand unit, I threw away what you need a couple of years ago. Editted, nice find Yety! Cheap prices for the hub alone and they even list the bearing very cheaply, I will save the site!
  9. I will have to look to see if any others are Missing In Action. Surprised that it should happen at this time.
  10. I decrunged my throttle valve last year, one of the jobs for when its warmer and I am motivated is to look down the inlet manifold to the ports and valves with an endoscope.
  11. I dont have any of those noises. I disabled the seat belt warning bong not that I ever drive without thembut moving the car on a field it annoyed me, the light comes up anyway. I dont even like the low temperature one and will look to see if I can disable that as well, there are so many parameters many with red herring translations that its easy to miss an option.
  12. I doubt that the German code & parameter descriptions in their own language are meaningless, they have always struck me as being very correct in everything that they do, the problem with translations to another language is that its rarely a technical person doing it and even more rarely one working in that field that understands what the term is and can find a way of expressing it in the required language which they should be a native speaker of but often aren't. An example in the above fault codes is someone has correctly translated the German text to "Tested since memory clear" although without knowing the original text it might better be expressed as "fault still present after code memory cleared" as the French translation "Confirmé, testé depuis RàZ memoire" aside from RàZ being gibberish appears to indicate, RàZ possibly being "erased". I have seen much much worse, "Needle sweep" for instance is shown as "indicator celebration"!
  13. Just look at the thread titles in the "All Activity" page of this forum compared to say 2 years ago and you will see that those of us who are interested in and concerned about their vehicle as a reliable and safe mode of transport are now well in the minority. And look at the car adverts as well although there you will have to go back 20 years to find any advertising relative to the vehicle and not "lifestyle" aspirations, the last couple of years its been nothing but connectivity, infotainment and gadgets.
  14. Something about touch screens does not like my fingers especially the ones in public places, store check-outs, information screens etc. I'm ashamed to admit it but I'm sure that many will relate to it, my frustration at the automated check in at Eurotunnel one day got the better of me and I ended up with bleeding knuckles and them a broken screen
  15. I only have vision in one eye, its very hard to position something relative to something else, a screwdriver into a screwhead for instance, I find it very difficult to type on a phone screen without making loads of mistakes, everytime I do a full stop I end up erasing the last character etc. And that is with something directly in front of me not to one side (my blind side) whilst trying to keep an eye on the road at the same time, even when I am stopped I find it very very hard to type an address into the satnav. And yet I can touch type on a keyboard like this laptop, a tablette I cannot. 100+ years of study and experience of ergonomics, tactile feedback switchgear and above all safety have been thrown away to try to sell cars on gimmicks and connectivity to the smartphone generation.
  16. Its as meaningless in English as it is in the French translation, welcome to the world of VCDS
  17. Thanks to you both, I had forgotten the details but knew I had been mislead. The translations to English of the German codes and parameters are bad enough, add in another translation and it would be probably be gibberish. In fact no probably about it having looked at the two above so I am glad that I have the English version.
  18. Not sure its as easy as they make it out to be Langers. When I was buying VCDS the French seller was more a lot more expensive, had a high delivery charge and seemed not at all interested in a new customer, par for the course I'm afraid. Gendan in the UK was very different, I bought from them on the understanding that I would be able to download the software in both French and English and use either of them with the dongle I bought from them. I installed the English program and when I tried to download the French one I was not able to, Rosstech confirmed this was the case but I can't recall the exact details of why. Unless you know different of course as I would really like the French version so I dont have to translate for people whose cars I scan .
  19. It does when the ignition is off but not when its on, it might not sound like a problem but I have fitted additional LED string lights to illuminate the cargo area and a pair of them are on the rear pillars to shine down on any high contents or the parcel shelf in its lower position. I frequently carry longer loads, building materials etc with the tailgate partially open, these lights were causing me a problem driving after dusk, all it needs to overcome it is to manually close the bootlatch with a screwdriver or similar remembering that it has 2 latch positions, it could be a usefull tip for those people who will sleep in their car with a tailgate open into an awning tent.
  20. Sometimes they say "cant find you on the system what name is it under?" and I say that you usually invoice me under your generic trade counter sales account, now I will say "Hello its J.R. Generic Taxi from XYZville here!" I even once returned a load of oil that I had bought on promo and filters as I had changed vehicle and it was the wrong grade, different filter etc, I bought as much and more again of the correct grade + filters and didn't argue with the handling charge, they were fine about it.
  21. My invoices have changed from "Generic Trade Account" to "Generic TAXI TPS generic account" They want to do business but they cant be doing with people who dont know exactly what they want, you cant go in presently and are put through to someone working from home, they are all on commission and if you cant quote what you want and give them your account number they will want to get you off the phone to answer a call from a garage that is next on the on hold queue. I ordered my clutch master cylinder on a Saturday morning, got put through to a guy working from home who called me "mate" and said "I remember you, last time you were buying drive shaft bolts and locktabs", very impressive but I knew actually he had just typed my name into his system and brought up the details, just like any good sales organisation thats the way they build rapport with the customer. Order taken and paid by credit card and I picked up 5 minutes later as they were soon to close and there were no more deliveries that day. So they have sub accounts for the non trade customers that they accept but they are invoiced under the generic one, at least thats what my branch does.
  22. Its arcing, probably caused by the fuse recieving contacts not having enough spring tension or having been sprung open.
  23. J.R. replied to b1ackb1rd's topic in Skoda Yeti
Most of the slave cylinder problems are those reported by the garages wanting to make more money, the only failure mode is leakage and it is very very easy to test with nothing other than a hose clamp or mole grip on the flexible pipe leading to the bleed block. If there is leakage then the brake fluid reservoir low warning lamp will come on very quickly, I have yet to read of any owner mentioning this when they have been advised that they need a new slave cylinder. I understand your sentiment regarding replacing it anyway if you are paying the labour. I would be considering replacing the DMF before the concentric slave cylinder.
  24. Reading your post again, if the feeling of lightness is only on release, if when you next use the clutch it feels normal with no free play then the problem is a small particle from the failing master cylinder is obstructing the metered hole in the return valve in the clutch blled block which VAG call the clutch torque limiter. Bleeding will probably dislodge the particle but if the fluid was black then the above advice holds.
  25. Bleeding may help initially help but the problem is a failing master cylinder, if the fluid expelled is black you are on borrowed time. Replacement is a relatively cheap and easy job, well the second time its easy, the first isn't as you are working blind most of the time.
