I couldn't find another topic related to radar detectors, and I didn't want to start a new topic for a single question (it seems to be fashionable around here). So here it is: I want to add a radar detector to my new Octy, but since it has a heated windshield I'm afraid the detector would be screened by the metallic layer - hence not work as it should. Do you guys know if those heated windshields have some area that is free of that metallic layer? I was able to notice two small areas left and right to the rear-view mirror, on the upper limit of the windshield; they are visible on the top limit of the darker dotted area that is surrounding the mirror support, and have a lighter color than the rest of the screen. I assumed those are metal-free zones for the traffic-camera GPS module. But that position is not really great for a radar detector IMHO. Any ideas are welcome!

Winter wheels
Most of the tire reviews I've checked recently, especially for the choice I have to make on MK4 winter tires, are usually placing Michelin Alpin 5 (not 6) on first place, second or ~equal to Michelin would be the Continental WinterContact TS 870 P, followed in general by Bridgestone Blizzak LM 005 or Hankook. Those positions are slightly changing from test to test, or from 2021 to 2022...

Front Dash rattle
My brand new MK4 already showed me in the first few hundred km that it's capable of such squeaks/rattles. Noises that in much cheaper cars (and less esteemed brand - such as Renault) I could hear ONLY after many tens of thousand km, and mainly in winter when plastics are more rigid... This weekend the new Octy was rattling at ~30 degrees Celsius!!! I'm not sure that I was able to precisely pinpoint my dashboard cricket, but my first suspect is the shiny piece of plastic trim on the dashboard, between the steering-wheel and the left air vent. The noise was gone each time I pressed this plastic towards the dashboard.... 😡 BTW, the imbecile that designed the sport steering-wheel on Octavia mk4 should start driving. I'm convinced that such idiotic ideas come from designers that never drove a car in their life... The third spoke (lower-center one) has this highly-shiny chrome finish on the inside. Guess what: IT DOES reflect sunlight directly into the drivers eyes. I'm not speaking about a brief flash on a curvy road. I was driving on a straight line for more than a minute, with the sun lighting this third spoke through the front-left window; the reflection was really blinding me. I had to cover the shiny trim with my hand for that road-sector...

I was preparing to write the exact same thing. BTW, depending on the suspension you'll have (adaptive or not) and road types you'll predominantly use, my previous experience clearly showed 17" is comfier...

Can't 'become primary user' in Skoda Connect
I just picked up my car today... The Skoda representative has made himself Primary User in the delivery preparation process. So later in the day, at home, I had to go through several attempts to become the Primary user. I followed the first steps indicated by Skoda Connect app on my phone, but first few attempts failed. No idea why... I think the fourth or fifth attempt was successful - now I'm the Primary user of my car. Each time I had to validate via both keys, and go through the "setup" process. Concerning the second user: I guess you and your wife have to have a serious discussion in order to decide who's the Primary User... 😃 All kidding aside, the way I understand it (without carefully going through the Manual) I think you can only have 1 primary user and a Guest (ore more). The car should recognize who is who from the used key.

Delivery times?
I picked up mine as planned, today around noon. Overall pleasantly impressed, even found 2 extra-options I had no idea about: one is the front parking sensors and the other are the pockets on the back of the front seats (including the small pockets for the phones of back passengers). Both were optional for Style trim in Romania when I placed the order, I didn't ask for either... Front sensors however were part of the ParkAssist which I removed from options sometime along the waiting time. I also have the Skoda logo projector under the front door - those are apparently standard for Style trim, or so the dealer mentioned. One important minus I noticed during the short ~60km trip today: there's a small cricket making noises from time to time (depending on road texture) somewhere in front of me, behind the wheel. It seems to be the shiny bit of trim on the dashboard, between the steering-wheel and left door - I pressed a bit harder on it and the creak stopped. ☹️ I confess I'm a bit obsessed with random noises inside the car; especially since it's really quiet inside - it could be due to the soundproof front-side windows I included as option. L.E. Oh, I remembered to check what @Jettamc22 was asking on the previous page. So, if yo want to see the gear number, simply flick the DSG-changer from D to S; on S it will continuously show the #gear. For my taste it's almost mandatory, because I found the car was cruising in town at around 60 km/h with ~1.200rpm (that's not great for the cat-converter and for the FAP). Once in S, it immediately shifted 1 gear down, with no other input from me on the gas pedal. The second way to see your gear number is to use the shifting-pads behind the steering-wheel; the DSG will go into Manual mode and you'll see the #gear. However, it doesn't automatically go back to Automatic mode after a while. You have to pull back on the DSG-changer and it will come back to Auto - the last mode that was used, either D or S...

Checking the car before takeover
Funny! On Saturday I'm picking up mine! I didn't even see it before; I was expecting some pictures from my dealer, but apparently she was too busy for that... Long story short, in preparation for the pickup I printed the list with all the characteristics of the car (both standard and the optional ones). Of course, I won' t check all the bullet points of that list (it has 2 pages), but it will be used as a reminder for what the car should have and what not...

Delivery times?
+1!!! 😂😂😂 When this happens to me, I quickly try to evaluate what's wrong with me. And each time I realize that my mind is busy with some problem other than driving... I'm actually very aware of the things happening around me in traffic, but changing gears is something I do without the need to think about it - it's kind of a reflex mostly based on engine sound (no need to look at the revs or speed). Don't worry about it! You'll get used to it very fast. I was using the manual Megane 2 and the EDC Megane GT in parallel - and everything was smooth; I didn't need any time to adjust from one car to another.

Delivery times?
I'm not sure how the software evolved since I had my drive-test with Octavia before ordering, but at that time you could see the gear only in Sport. Once you are in drive (showing D on the dashboard), if you flick your gear-shifter once more to "S" you'll see an S on the dashboard followed by a digit - that's the gear the car is in... I'm supposed to pick up mine this Saturday - I'll be able to check if this type of gear display was kept or discarded with software evolution.

Delivery times?
There's also news concerning mine: the dealer called this morning - they have the car since yesterday evening. This morning they requested the documents (temporary registration of the car) and if all goes without glitches I should be able to pick it up this Saturday. So the car's trip from completion @factory (August 31st) to the dealer was ~27 days, plus a few more days to the end-user. All-in-all, it's been 13+ months between order and delivery, so I can't complain if I think about a few other members here waiting for more than 14 months and still counting... ☹️

Skoda Octavia IV pictures thread
Looks great! Enjoy it!!! I ordered Silver Grey with the same alloys - can't wait too see it What about the Skoda logo projector under the door? I remember reading some posts on this forum from people planning to replace the light with a projector. In your case was it factory fitted as part of a package? Or did you add it yourself?

Delivery times?
Ah, so my mind is not completely gone! I was sure there was a transmission column, and recently I wasn't finding it... On a different note: a few minutes ago I received an update for the car. It got customs clearance for transport to the dealer (so it's already in Romania); no idea how much time that will take, given the trucks&drivers shortage.

Delivery times?
Yep, it was the same situation in my case. I was checking MySkoda daily; the morning the app accepted my VIN, the dealer wrote to me a few hours later to let me know that the car is completed. 20 days later I'm still waiting for news; she didn't announce that the car has arrived at Romanian customs. I'm sure she would have told me... So it seems they don't care about Romanians either... 🙄 Why would they?

Delivery times?
Not sure how it's designed at Skoda, but on my Megane GT the blind spot sensors were two extra (one on each side on the rear bumper); so 6 sensors in total: 4 for rear parking assistance and 2 more for blind spot. Those 2 are looking more to the side compared to the other 4. But I agree with you; if you want to have it, accept nothing less!

Delivery times?
Same here... Confirmed completed car on August 31st, paid in full the same day, still waiting for transport from factory to the Romanian customs hub - that's by train. From there to the dealer it's again an unknown waiting time, since I heard there's a shortage of transport truck drivers. And it's quite obvious the dealer will not pay extra to transport a single car on a smaller platform. Therefore I'm not expecting the car to be here in the beginning of October; maybe with some luck around mid-October... And when you know how short the distance between Mlada-Boleslav and Romania is, the long wait is really annoying!

Octavia iV reversing camera retrofit service!
Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it! I had no idea about that... However, the other issue remains - I'll need to find a Skoda partner willing to do the extra-work and properly register my car's configuration @Skoda servers after coding, is that wright?
-
Octavia iV reversing camera retrofit service!
Thanks for the answer, I was afraid of that also... On one hand, I was suspecting that the dealer might have a "minimum effort" approach; if it's more than install - code - sync with factory servers then they wouldn't go for it, to avoid complications. On the other hand I searched a bit online; I was able to find aftermarket (~100E) or genuine camera (400E), but installing it outside Skoda partners would mean that after each major software update the camera coding would be "erased". So it would need re-coding after each major update... That's my understanding on the current situation. Is it correct or am I completely wrong?

Octavia iV reversing camera retrofit service!
I need some help with a bit of info related to the subject of this topic. I ordered my mk4 in August '21 and it's now somewhere along the way between the factory and Romanian customs. Sometime last year I was asked if I would be willing to remove the reverse cam from the original car order - with the potential (not certainty) of making the delivery faster. I agreed to that modification, since it kind of made sense: the MY22 mk4 no longer had the reverse camera on the option list for the Style trim that I ordered. On the Romanian Skoda car config this option is still unavailable for trims below VRS. However, I told my dealer at that time that I'll still want the reverse camera once the car arrives, and they said there will be no problem in installing it themselves - obviously for a certain price. Now with the car completed I asked them to order a reverse camera so they'll have it once the car arrives, and install it during the delivery preparation process, as we previously discussed. Today they contacted me to let me know that they checked my VIN in the VAG ETKA system and it seems that the reverse camera cannot be installed on my car. Now after all the wait and after having this option on the original order, it's a bit difficult for me to believe that a Stye MK4 can't take a reverse camera into the system. So long story short: is the dealer feeding me BS, or is it really impossible to retrofit the camera on my car? Is there a way to check that?

Delivery times?
Mine was recently produced sometime between mid-August and August 31st, but VIN indicates MY22. Anyway - just glad it's been completely produced from the start - without going into "storage" waiting for parts; and also glad that it's completed within 54 weeks from order - compared to several "record holders" around here that ordered before me and don't have a complete car.

Delivery times?
I've got an "N" on position #10; I received the VIN in July and the car was completed end of August '22 (ordered Aug. '21). It's now waiting for transport. Maybe that "P" that means 2023 is indicating that it is a model year 2023... If I remember correctly, MY changes around September. Someone who knows this better might correct me if I'm wrong.

Delivery times?
I was also asking if I could add any option to the initial order and they told me that ANY modification (adding, not removing options) would push my order back at the end of the waiting list. It really doesn't make any sense. That was about 10-11 months ago, before the factory fire, before the war and the consequent delays caused by components produced in Ukraine. The only modifications were those that they proposed - removal of park assist and reverse camera. I'll never know if that helped or not the "faster" production of the car...

Delivery times?
IMO it's pure lottery... My order included all the heated options (windscreen, steeringwheel, front seats, without webasto), plus the Matrix-LED and it's finally built after 53 weeks since the order. But I know cars with more options being built and delivered faster than mine, so nobody knows what are the criteria. Not sure how it compares on Octavia, but I had this combination on my Megane GT; the summer 18" set was significantly less comfy than the winter 17" set (it was 225/40 R18 against 225/45 R17). I think the simple fact that I used a slightly higher pressure in the 18" (to protect the rims) made it feel a bit stiffer.

damn! sorry about that! no idea, I had it on my Clipboard... 🙃 Oh, don't remind me about that; I posted here recently that a car ordered later than mine with all the extra's on top was delivered last month (same engine and DSG as mine). They are messing up things&orders big time at Skoda HQ, as @MaximusMeridius was writing to them on reddit. About the camera: today when they notified me the car is completed, I asked for a quotation to have the rear-view cam installed by them (during the delivery preparation if I'm in luck). I remember they deduced about 200E from the total price when I gave up this option; now I'm anticipating they'll ask for 500E to install it 😡. That's in case they don't have to wait 6 months for a rear camera to be delivered... I'll let you know when they send me the offer.
