  1. @johnnie47 It is great that there are choices and will be for many years to come. The millions of ICE vehicles available now and until no longer available new will be going on for decades yet. Sad IMO is that those that did get EV,s and might of had Free Charging and no VED no longer have that. But fair doos. Charging 3 pence a mile from EV drivers from next year is certainly not fair for those paying the public charging tariffs with 20% VAT. Non Real World testing under labority conditions are a nonsense.
  2. Very little energy is used in traffic jams in an BEV. Best try driving one. I do and know, regularly through Glasgow it can be 40 minutes or so covering 5 miles. & you can switch the car off as you might in an ICE vehicle. Even in the coldest of weather i doubt you will keep everything running, and heating from 0*oC outside to 16*oC inside is not using much energy. not like it is a 2kW fan heater. I have my windows open a bit, wind deflectors fitted, stops steaming up. Heated seats have very little affect on the efficiency / range of a BEV. I have mine on for a few minutes at the most if the car is not pre-heated. My arse would be on fire even at the low setting. Yes you get power cuts, weather, road closure diversions. (A 60 mile one on Skye just now) Snow gates closed etc etc. Filling stations without power as well. No card usage being a use, people without cash. Public Charging might not be cheap. The last trip i did cost £3.50 for 160 miles charged at home, then the next 200 miles was £27. That was not Rapid or Ultra Rapid charging. Doing Rapid or Ultra Rapid Charging for the 360 miles could have cost anything from £60 - £92 depending on Location / Charger providers. Business / Commercial drivers getting BIK and maybe charging paid for & even if no Home / Work charging are in a whole different position from a Private Driver with no Home or Work Charging.
  3. Skoda seemingly have their first model with FULL HYBRID. The Octavia. Charges without Plugging in. Bl00dy amazeballs. NOT!.
  4. PS. Why have a story on Diesel & show a green PETROL Pump? This is the UK with black pumps for diesel not the USA.
  5. Lets forget who is feeding THE TIMES stories be that 'Insiders' or LABOUR PARTY 'Communications staff'. Lets hear from The Horses mouth, which ever Secretary or Minister of State is 'The Horse'. Let them tell 'The House' first and not leak stories.
  6. Welcome. there is a good and long thread on Modifying mk3,s in the Fabia MK,3 section. Pretty sure also pretty much the same question as yours asked more than once. Worth a key word search. The Fabia project section worth a look as well.
  7. Welcome. I would not be so sure a Motability car has not been ragged. It might be one Registered Keeper and any amount of drivers and the disabled person maybe never in the car. My Motability cars were Never Raced or Rallied, well not much. As to Servicing was it just Oil & Filter changes at Flexable / Variable Servicing. Motability do not want them serviced on Fixed Servicing. Unusual that Motability would agree to a DQ381 DSG service before the 80,000 miles. Was the brake fluid changed at 2 years or 3 years? Where the Spark Plugs changed at 40,000 miles, then at 65,000 miles? You need to be sure that the Motability car was leased the full 3 years and not returned early so not Motability having the service cand MOT done before the car went to BCA.
  8. They have had 100,s of thosands of sales of DQ381.s. Thousands and thousands of MCU failures world wide within Warranty or out of warranty. What a shame that they choose to ignore that and it is left to other companies to refurbish MCU,s or improve them. It is a lottery sadly, even if the failures are 5% of those manufactured. Tough if you get one of the 5%.
  9. 0w 30 FS III which is also VW 504 00 /507 00 is a good alternative to the 0w 20 FS IV. / VW508 00 /509
  10. @Lar What problem needs solving?
  11. Anyone compiling stories or involved in research surely asks which particular vehicles it is. Maybe EV only models, or does it involve EV,s that can also come as a model with a ice or hybrid engine.
  12. VW were developing a 10 speed DSG a decade ago which would basically be like a CVT. (DQ511). Honda was doing a 11 speed triple clutch a decade ago and binned that.
  13. @Graham Butcher can you remeber what you earned then or what you paid for the Minx?
  14. Buyers market for those wanting an efficient diesel for longer distance trips, towing etc etc. even if it does get to £3 a litre. £13.50 a gallon. You pays your money and do what you need to do in whatever suits you. PS, when I had a moped, a motorbike or a car and had started working a gallon of petrol was an hour's pay.
  15. Best find out if a 7 kW /11 kW rated or a 22 kW. Likely 7 kW. Edit. My shorter 11 kW cable. Came with my EV.
  16. Growing numbers of unsold used and new ICE vehicle. That are vehicles that are owned by financial institutions in many cases so that is Pension. Fund money that Motor Groups borrow to have stock.
  17. Selling out is easy to do if your imports from China are being delayed by disruption in manufacturing or transportation by sea or at ports. So much Halloween plastic crap including lights to get into the warehouse including lights, then the Christmas trash / lights, fireworks etc etc. the money making stuff.
  18. I never call granny charger, but yes the 13amp cable is a granny cable type 2. The charger is onboard the car not the cable. 3.6 kW sometimes. Wall box a different kettle of fish. 22 kW type 2 cable in long lengths are quite a heavy bulky thing. My EV is charging at a public charger just now using one. I will be just over 3 hours to get 20 kWh of electricity. Costing £10.50.
  19. 2012 in other world regions they had to put a 100,000 mile warranty on them. In NZ all DQ 200,s got a new MCU not just a software update and mineral oil like in other regions, including the EU / Europe if the owner found out there was a service campaign. In Australia there was a 5 year warranty and now I think 7 years. But then in Australia and North America and some other regions it is an 8 speed torque converter auto fitted to the excellent 1.4 TSI,s. Where the World Wide Harmonised cheat testing is not necessary for the emissions. VW no faith in their no servicing product to give the DQ200 DSG a 8 year warranty globally.
  20. Skoda JS (industry) are building parts for Rolls Royce for these Small nuclear modular facilities that are seemingly coming and all ready creating so many jobs. Well that will be in the legal, media and planning side not digger and dumper drivers yet. Energy required for AI data centres not electric (heating ) for those in social housing, high rise flats etc without balcony solar or battery storage or a car even. Those to that can get on a bus for £2 while the bus company might get anything from a £1 to who knows how much to compensate them for the full fare. While car dealer sellers / manufacturers get £thoudsands of CAR GRANT money.
  21. Lol at you and home balcony solar. Let's see how long or cold this winter gets. Tough on those with oil heating systems or bottled gas. Tough on those with really not enough to get by on while the haves are doing along very nicely.
  22. I have had 3 different crossclimates on different vehicles, originals then + and SUV on my Shogun. The SUV,s were ****e on snow and that was coming down from 285,s to 265,s. Different snows. Being a Location location location thing.
  23. The HEVS, are very much still requiring Petrol or Diesel and many of the PHEV,s will be using petrol. The BEV,s might yet feel the affect of global gas prices.
  24. Standard wallbox chargers are 32 amp single phase as far as i know.
  25. What is your cable a 7, 11 or 22 KW Type 2.? I have used my 20 meter 22 kW cable to charge PHEV,s from wall boxes or 11 kW AC 3 phase chargers.
