  1. They do get a bit fogged up, that seems more extreme, it’s the rain and temperatures causing it I expect, hopefully rather than water ingress.
  2. It sounds like there’s a problem and with investigation, you’ll never be happy otherwise. Did you mean 290NM of torque or probably a lot higher@roaddetective? 480NM was measured at Shark when taking my old 220 VRS to stage 1. Like Ads230, it was done on a 2 year old stock clutch, no problem, even after accidentally singeing it, by resting my left foot on it for a few seconds when accelerating going up a hill in 6th. So a performance clutch should have no slippage problems. Good luck and hopefully a cheap-ish repair, shared cost ir even done under warranty. Always difficult to prove /persuade with wear on moving parts.
  3. Rather than spend thousands, you may as well buy a TSI and stage 1 it. 300 BHP and decent torque, giving you butter smooth power , sufficient for safe overtaking and 40+ mog on motorway runs
  4. I have REZ08 on my Skoda touch up paint but it could be LF3P. A spray shop will sort it out for you
  5. IMO Verstappen’s ‘hard man’ stance is tolerated by FIA, which wants to see another team break the Mercedes stranglehold. Silverstone, Monza and now San Paulo turn 4 where he knew he could run very wide, are examples of refusing to yield when to continue will result in a crash. Weaving and until banned, sudden dangerous changes of direction are all dished out with disregard for the rules or safety. ‘Say hi to the stewards! ‘ No class at all.
  6. …hindsight is a wonderful thing
  7. Looks good, has it been spruced up and the grill dechromed ? The wheels seem very glossy.
  8. Yes, the tread makes a difference, just as a hard wearing compound versus a softer compound but the low porofile summer tyre treads seem fairly similar, hence the additional road noise is the price paid for having them on the car.
  9. Regardless of soundproofing, low profile tyres simply transmit more noise. After 2 VRS with 18” and then an even noisier Golf GTI on 19” all on 40 profile wheels, I find that 235 x 45 x 18” tyres on the Superb are much quieter and overall more relaxing to drive.
  10. @icedinkthe MKII estate has the same boot 2006-2012. Look at some photos on Autotrader.
  11. It would be much easier to simply replace like with like. I imagine a Mk1 boot/hatch is not the same size/fitment.
  12. It should fit as it’s a Mk 2 with a revised bonnet and big headlights, TSI engine and some interior revisions. Never heard a Mk 2 FL called Mk 2.5 before - perhaps that’s a new selling point.
  13. The weird thing is that your service point didn’t tell you straight off that it was cam chain when you tried to book it in.
  14. Or a similar idea to thr one above, fold a thick sheet of cardboard into a small rectangular flat-sided pipe and cut an angled end. Then tape up the fold with decent thick tape along the seam to make a mini version of a Dyson pointed suction tool. Fit it inside the Dyson larger adapter and it works really well. The Superb is the first car that I couldn't clean between the door and the seat rail. Works a great.
  15. Despite the fact that Red Bull have what seems to be a superior car and a good chance of winning the championship, The post-race scuffling shows how desperate the team is to overcome years of Mercedes dominance. Christian Horner is usually calm and logical and I am sure he’d prefer to win on the track, not in the stewards room. This weekend should be fun.
  16. Town driving will kill petrol consumption on both the 245 TSI VRS and 280 Superbs. I didn’t find much difference overall in the consumption of my 245 Golf or my present car. Both are DSG and 10-15% thirstier than my manual 220 VRS even when it was mapped to more than 290 Bhp.
  17. I hadn’t realised how much this has affected the dealers. My local dealer’s looked almost bereft of new cars yesterday, especially compared to the end of the last lockdown, with many of the normally occupied parking slots empty. A salesman confirmed they’d sold a lot of cars but are waiting for more to come through.
  18. If you do a lot of longer trips using A roads and motorways, then 38-40 Mpg is fairly easy sticking with the other traffic. Eco will change up to 7th on A roads at 40-50 when otherwise it would hang on to 5th or 6th. Around Scotland’s clearer roads so got 42-43 with no real effort, 50-60 Mph. Otherwise short 10 mile commutes on A roads in the summer gives me 35-38 and I don’t bother looking in the winter!
  19. Has anybody changed the sunroof wind deflector mesh? Mine has developed 2 sets of tears, much like a run in nylon tights. Not sure how easy it is to replace. Just dabbed some black nail varnish on the edges to try to stop the tear getting bigger. Additionally haven’t asked how much they are new but assume it will be extortionate. I do like the sunroof but this on top off its cracked plastic surround, recently replaced under warranty, is a bit annoying. Thanks in advance. Otherwise it’s a brilliant car.
  20. Yes, I couldn't even spell oxidisation correctly ...hic
  21. Both my old Octavia VRS had the CC on the indicator stalk, which needed to have their contact boards cleaned about every 2-3 years. If your CC is on the indicator stalk it may be the same very quick and cheap fix. Use a fine flat edge or even your thumbnail to split the end of indicator stalk apart. Pull the CC switch out, pull off the wiring connector, use a small torx screwdriver to undo the screws and a bit of circuit board cleaner or in my case, vodka, to clean the oxidation off the circuit board. Reassemble and it should work. Here's the link to a guide with photos. Look at post #2 by Mike Holdroyd from 9 April 2016.
  22. It seems that a ' racing incident' will soon be a thing of the past with F1 & MotoGP series now regularly penalising what was considered to be an audacious overtake. The sort of move eulogised by commentators over the last few years as the new young guns went for 'impossible' overtakes against the established drivers. Hamilton was penalised for not leaving enough space last year in a similar incident. I think at Silverstone he just decided to out-max Max Verstappen, king of the new tough guys. I fully expect Verstappen to become more aggressive/reckless.
  23. The Octavia VRS MkIII is a loud car compared to the my MkII. My Superb is much quieter in comparison but the tyres are higher profile.
  24. There always seems to be a ‘get out of paying’ clause.
  25. Horses for courses. I feel the opposite and that it needs a Sport + mode. The sport mode on the 272 is adequate and doesn’t feel like absolutely ‘’full on’. To me the benefit of Sport mode is that it tightens up the suspension via DCC, so you can push on without as much body roll and DSG holds onto the gears longer, throttle response could be quicker. Even in sport mode, it’s not as as fun as my last mapped manual Octavia, which although only 20 Bhp more powerful, had 100nm extra torque.
