@Marknolan1 Luckily it's stopped misbehaving, but I did work out that the button on the gear lever was sticking in at times, a bit of persuasion and it would pop out. My indy garage has seen this issue and said replacement lever was ~£200 plus three hour labour to change out. Good luck.

6 speed DSG Clutch Jumpy
@harrysprout Seems normal to me , my 2016 2.0tdi is on 88k miles, sometimes it will give a little shunt / jerk to start in forward or reverse when moving off from standstill, up or down a slight incline. its had two oil changes in those miles at 40k as per the requirements of the DQ250.

@TheClient, each time it's stuck, it feels like the barrel will not turn far enough anticlockwise to release the key. I can confirm that I am always in P before I try and remove it, and it's in there solid. I then start the car back up, move the lever back and forth to D, then move the car a bit forward or back a few times, then put it in P and try and remove. When it's happy there is no resistance in turning the barrel enough to remove the key. Pretty much tried every combination of lever moves driving a bit and trying again, very frustrating..

Update no.2. Tried the second key today, same issue but again got the key out after a bit of perseverance. @Phoenixboy thanks i hope its not the gear selector, there are issues with that on here where it flashes a workshop fault of the dash and there is a cheaper fix than the whole lever if its that but to date i have not seen anything on the dash pop up and VCDS is not pulling any fault codes either. I'm going to have to take my VCDS out with me to see the selector position when it gets stuck.

Update no.1, Did it again this morning but I got the key out in less than a few minutes but don't know why it released tbh. Called my indie garage (VW specialist) and they've suggested could be the following (and it's in for a service in two weeks so they can check a few things over). Worn key ( I have a spare so can test that theory out). Ignition barrel. Micro switch in dsg gear lever which can get dirty ( I used vcds to check the position (in Adv measuring blocks) and it was ok on my test when key had already released ok, but I've not hooked it up when I get the fault occurring). Will update if things get to a conclusion 🤔

@Warrior193 thanks However it feels like the key will not "rotate" back in the barrel far enough for it to be removed. When I got it out there's no sign of resistance nor stickiness. It was fine again after trip home...

No vcds faults logged, I also checked using advanced measuring blocks Dsg gear lever positions and it showed no issues and displayed P,R,N, D,S when moving the lever, (engine off at the time). Could a barrel fault not allow key release?

Indeed thanks toot, engine was off each time. It's like it's not seeing the lever in P then. I'll see if VCDS has any faults logged.

A few occasions of late i have found i am unable to remove the key from the ignition barrel after turning the engine off. This morning it took me 20 minutes to get it out😆. I had tried: several sequences of turning the engine on again moving forward a bit then backing into a space, moving the gear lever to PARK, then applying the handbrake and then trying to remove it. I tried with the foot brake applied too when putting into PARK I moved the gear lever back into DRIVE then moved then back to PARK. I think i tried every sort of combination with above Eventually it came out quite freely as normal. I think that the DSG gear lever might be involved in triggering its full release, is that right or not? Will put it on VCDS later when i get a moment and check for any fault codes Anyone else experienced this or suggestions on what's wrong?

New Cam Position sensor - worse than before
Just to add to this thread. The OP popped to see me for a VCDS scan. I noted that there was no sign of an engine management light being on when we had engine running. So it might not have logged any faults anyway. My fully up to date and licensed VCDS hex V2 could find no modules to communicate with, it just hung and all it could read was a voltage in the scan popup, (there are no issues with my VCDS as I checked it worked absolutely fine on my Octavia straight after this happened in case). I need to use the VCDS interface test function when I get the OP back next week as it's bugging me that I couldn't assist them in their quest to fix this car. Anyone seen a 6Y platform with no Comms in VCDs on here? Thanks.

Does all skoda dealers use erwin for service history?
Firstly putting babies in Vrs Octavia's turns them into petrol heads, when they are big enough to drive you'll need deep pockets for their first cars insurance😀 You can register for Erwin for free and see the "history" from the vin number. As mentioned the sales desk won't have a clue. When I bought my car used I phoned up another main dealer and said I've bought a used Octavia and wish to find out the service history before I bring it into your dealer for its first service (lying through my teeth) and they obliged me all the details over the phone with just the reg. 👍

Can you vent EGR gasses out of engine rather then recirculating them and clogging up the Head?
As quoted by others, the VW self study guide of EA 288 certainly confirms that the exhaust gases have passed through both the CAT and the DFP before being returned to the inlet manifold. Also given that this engine has been around for a while now, across multiple VW group vehicles, I do feel that one could conclude that there are no issues with this particular component, else this forum, along with many other well established ones i.e Audi, VW and Seat, we would by now have seen issues well documented, as was the case with the CR 2.0 that was plagued with issues and had a high failure rate. I certainly don't recall ever seeing an EA288 equipped vehicle smoking like the old 1.9 and 2.0 models in all my travels😀.

Sound from advice @Gaz and certainly the better option if no lack of storage space and willing to change tyres for seasons that change more than we get down south. For me I needed four new boots in one go, I don't have a Vrs so for 16inch wheels I got four for £308 at quickfit so it was a no brainer. But this year has been their first real test and they have proved their performance without a doubt.

Hi Shauna, I also live on the South Coast like @Gaz, we don't often get snow but I was looking for an all round tyre and I have had Michelin Cross Climates on my 2.0 TDI Dsg since 2020. We had a good amount of snow at the weekend and I've had no issues getting about on roads in the last week I would never have ever attempted in the past on "normal" tyres and also into remote sites I visit for work which are down roads that are not frequently used nor gritted. They work just as well in wet and in dry summer, quite frankly they are great in all conditions. Plus they've been on now for over 30k miles fronts have worn only to 4.5 mm from 7 new. Like @Gaz I'm glad I switched to them a few years back, they provide a no compromise option for any season.

@Tonyrow it's not so clear in your post but could I ask, did your engine stop (i.e break down) when this happened? As mine recently had a very similar show of multiple fault lights after a long journey and the engine stopped. I pulled in and then the car started fine after and hasn't done this since. Thanks.

Octavia MK3 Sudden engine stop, and multiple dash warning lights.
Hi all, It seems my car had a major glitch that was rather concerning at the time. I had been driving for ~2.5 hours continuously with no issues. Then suddenly numerous dash lights appeared all at once and the engine stopped running. Luckily I was on a quiet road and was able to pull in safely and quickly. Dash lights I saw: Tyre pressure monitor ESP Steering Infotainment showed "Park Pilot is unavailable" on the display which went off as was in use at the time. Once I stopped, the engine restarted again and I was able to continue my journey without issue. I have driven car since the 31st and its been fine and has this has not occurred again. I see a multiple faults in "Instruments" which seem to indicate a communication issue, but of note in the CAN gateway, Terminal 15 fault logged too at the same time stamp which i think is a main relay, is that correct and where is this located. Buying advice for an Octavia III this summer...
To add my 2.0 tdi 6 speed Dsg estate returns a properly calculated (so not using the on board computer figures) 53mpg with little effort. I do 12-13k miles per annum.

I would have thought that you would have SMART LINK already available on that year of Octavia Scout? it might be more user friendly connecting a Smartphone to it and using either APPLE CarPlay or Android Auto ( I would add I don't have Smartlink enabled on my octavia but alot of others prefer it to the infotainment) Octavia SATNAV has its "quirks" for sure. You can enter a postcode but its a bit buried, I don't mind mine to be honest but do understand you having to let off steam! I use the voice activation to enter address's and it works ok most of the time.

Factory trailer prep only adds the wiring loom to the rear quarter. As @PetrolDavesays. Once the module is added that's when coding is required to tell the car system to behave differently when trailer is attached, i.e it turns off the rear parking sensors. I would suggest you look at options and costs from an independent towbar fitter with the understanding that you want it fully integrated. You'll be unlikely to get a main dealer to fit one anyway. They just sub out towbar fitting to independents generally anyway from reading threads on here. a good independent will have the software to code it in anyway as that's how it's done on CANbus cars. You cannot just chop wires into the loom with scotch blocks like they did years back!
