  1. I would change the pre-cat Lambda probe and the ECT sensor next, they'll be way out of spec. after 200k.
  2. Most likely to be an injector fault, there will be fault codes stored, tell us what they are.
  3. Rear brake upgrade is RICE, it's totally unnecessary and will ruin the handbrake. I like the cheapskate ethos but don't fix what ain't broke! The suspension needs sorting front to back first. Somewhere in Kent there's a Monte Carlo sitting on bricks!
  4. You can try resetting the gear linkage but it may be caused by the clutch dragging.
  5. Water methanol injection is a detonation reduction strategy used on turbocharged PETROL engines. You should probably stick to stuff that works on diesels dude, so a remap is all you need.
  6. Unplug the CTS and see if the reading changes, if not it could be a wiring short.
  7. Biggest bang for your buck is a simple remap, nothing else required. If you're determined to wreck the clutch and flywheel then fit a PD150 turbo, FMIC and a remap. Seriously, these need very little to go a lot faster but do the brakes and suspension first.
  8. I may have mentioned the alternator before, once or twice, it's breaking down under load which can't easily be tested.
  9. High likelihood it's a 90A unit, only the MPI is different from memory.
  10. A good functional solution that will undoubtedly be much more powerful, the only downside I can see is that the unswept area of the disc will rust badly with no way to keep it clean and the MOT tester will probably fail it. With front brakes like that you won't even NEED back brakes and the ABS will be working overtime to stop them locking every time you touch the pedal.
  11. Yes, of course it's the same, how would a dumb website know if there's any difference.
  12. Better to ask forgiveness if caught in my experience.
  13. Sorry, it's really easy to check by whipping off the rocker cover which has to come off to do the loom anyway.
  14. Misfire on a PD will probably be a worn cam.
  15. Lucky you, most people only have cheap meters that can barely sense the presence of a DC current let alone quantify it because they work like a transformer and as everyone who was awake at school knows, transformers only work properly with AC current.
  16. @colinstubbs, you're plugged into the Volts, Ohms, Hertz socket, I'd go into the 600 mA socket on the bottom left if I were you...
  17. Possible electrical issue with the instrument cluster which means the immobiliser might not be disarming correctly. Try reflowing the solder joints on the PCB where the the multiplug connects.
  18. You have to accept that VAG best practice will differ from standard engineering practice on the basis that a retail customer will be paying the bill and no engineers whatsoever will have been involved at the dealer level. The engineering shop I worked for had accounts for every single dealer in our catchment area, VAG included!
  19. Yes, the seat belt pre-tensioners will need renewal. Yes all the sensors are housed in the ECU, it'll need recoding though.
  20. That's the bearing shell, the journal is on the crank which looks ok and if it passes the fingernail test, is ok. The shell looks ok as well but bear in mind that you cannot safely replace the upper half of the mains with the crank fitted as trying to slide them round will end up doing more harm than good. I appreciate the temptation but bearing shells really don't wear unless they get oil starved, some of the sputter coating has gone from that shell but it's far from dead. In your place I'd simply replace both bolts on that main bearing cap and button it back up. Sorry but I don't agree for the reasons set out above.
  21. Congratulations, you have a unique failure. Since that's a main bearing cap you need to remove the other bolt and the cap so you can inspect the crank journal itself.
  22. Dude please, we used to use AMC castings whenever we could get them for the professional machine shop, the problem was getting the supply, particularly for the Discovery TD5 which had an absolutely shocking OE casting. The valve seats on the PD head are slightly pocketed to allow room for skimming with the valves removed, so it's not what you think it is.
  23. It's incredibly rare on the lower powered cars like the OP's, it doesn't make enough torque to damage a wet paper bag...
