I’m happy with my invisible tail pipe. So many cars, including prestige models, run around with either totally fake “tail pipes” or big fancy apertures that aren’t connected to the real silencer outlet pipe clearly visible behind the bumper. Utter nonsense. The Honda Civic (around 2007) got it right with an integrated outlet but we’ve gone downhill since then.

The car GPS has its limitations regarding Routes compared with stick on devices such as Garmin or TomTom. Which is why I continue to use such an add on on both 4 wheels and 2. Features I enjoy daily are comparative speed display and counting down to turns, via points and destination of course.

C’mon, you know the fuel gauge and range figures are simply an approximation. In the real world you fill your car when it’s convenient and the gauge is showing something under 1/4 full. Anyone dicing with death reading a range down to zero is asking for trouble. Saying that, I once ran my bike down to something like -5 or -10 and filled the tank with the official maximum capacity. But have never played that game on 4 wheels.

I know someone who needs to replace 20” tyres on an X5. With wider rears than fronts. For decent tyres the bill will be close to £1,000. Wow! I’ll stick with “small”.

I’ve enjoyed the Autobhan a few times. On 4 wheels and 2. 4 wheel speedo max was 200kph (previous Kodiaq). 2 wheel GPS max was 216kph (current bike). As above, there’s always someone much faster than you. And you better be looking far, far ahead and also in your mirrors. It can get scary. And hard work on 2 wheels. Any (fool) can drive fast in a straight line, but there’s more fun to be had on other roads.

I’d say the same for my red bus. Almost 400 miles round trip for a night out up north last week on some of the country’s best roads. Fuel consumption improving as the weather warms up. 45.9 mpg on mixed roads into Glasgow on Monday. But a few quid cheaper than a vRS.

Please don’t ever use a brick. They crumble. Always a hefty lump of wood. Or 2. From one who’s been swapping wheels for half a century and has enough tools and jacks to compete with Kwik Fit 😀

They’ll ask you to drop the car off first thing. And leave it with them all day. For some reason they find it difficult to schedule accurately in a way that would help all the customers. Its a real PITA.

I’ve never used auto-fold with many cars. Crazy. Totally unnecessary in my world. Not built to last the lifetime of the car. And as for the icy starts. And when parked in tight spots I may not want them unfolding. Once in a blue moon I enjoy manual folding - usually when parked on the street for some strange reason.

I think I’m in the same camp as a few of the above posters. Every time I acquire a new (to me) vehicle, I check everything frequently. As I get to know the vehicle I reduce the frequency of the routine checks. But I cringe at some of the stories on this forum, and others, from owners who express shock horror when their trusty vehicle shows warning lamps due to gross negligence. I know digging out the upside down space saver spare wheel is a bit of an inconvenience, but who’d want to find a flat spare when you really need it? And bonnet catches you can’t operate. An immovable wheel bolts. And jacks that you can’t operate. And lamps you can’t change. And wipers you can’t change. And ……………… 😀

It’s probable that none of our home gauges are “accurate”. Not mission critical. Its more important to use the same gauge all the time. Like many above, I use a dial gauge at home that is (a) easy to use and (b) consistent in it’s readings. ps - nitrogen in normal car tyres is absolute ******

Slight digression - my experience with standard 19” Summer tyres and 17” Winter tyres. The OEM 19s turned out to be much more comfortable than I expected. Not too low profile and feel ok most of the time. I’m on my 2nd Bear so have enjoyed 5 years on them so far. But, I use 17” winter wheels and the difference is huge. No danger from pot hole or kerb damage. Noticeable Roly-Poly compared with the 19s so no boy racer cornering. But, the DCC lets me play nice tunes on each and every journey as I deal with multiple speed humps, poorly maintained roads, city roads, motorways and nice sweeping A and B roads. I often use Sport suspension with the 17” high profile tyres at times when I wouldn’t use it with the 19s. I think I will want DCC on any future car. Swapping wheels means I’ve never bought any new tyres for many years so cannot comment on alternative rubber.

Indeed it probably will be as good as it gets. My Bear showed 39.5 MPG today on a short 76 mile round trip into Glasgow and back. Motorway. City. Was chauffeur drive style within speed limits, but not overly pussy footing. On a long run in warmer weather I've seen 45 MPG. But at the end of the day I repeatedly see 36 mpg overall brim to brim. And I've been measuring brim to brim for years in different cars. Previous Bear was 38 mpg over 3 years and 30K miles. This thread is putting me off moving to a wee 1.5 petrol in future.
