Window wash not working 2018 octavia
Has it run out of fluid? My Passat run out last week and the motor stopped.

Service questions
@Gax You are absolutely right with all that. Where it differs is when you go to an independent specialist. VAG in this case. I guess we need to be more clear when discussing these things. The VAG specialist I use is known in the tuning world and they know so much about these car that I would trust them over dealer hands down. A garage I have started to use recently (we moved) is equally as trustworthy but not for VAG specific stuff. Good for generic component change/maintenance. Not so good for stuff like a DSG service or coding. I wasn't aware that there was a new ZS. Is that one of the new EV's?

Service questions
Just because they are working at a dealer doesn't make them any more qualified. Quite often they get the apprentice to do the oil change. Who says an independent is an amateur? In my experience they are usually more honest and open about the work. The point about the updates and dealer support is a very good one though and worth paying the extra when and if you can afford it.

Ventilation grill selection
I have found that ally cars still blow some air from the other vents. Even the ones not selected. I assume it's some sort of maintenance thing keeping air circulating.

Service questions
I wouldn't at that price. We paid 250ish for 2 services when we got the arona. It's an oil change plus some filters if they deem them needed. They might change the spark plugs if at the right age and they need it. Can you tell I have a really dim view of dealer services? Only reason I get mine done by them is down to being in warranty. Someone will be along to give you a more detailed info on what is done. I'd take that info to a trusted local indy who will likely half the price and actually change stuff.

Considering an IV purchase
GTE mode will try to charge the battery a bit (10 miles?) So I use that when I know I'm going to need more grunt and battery is dead. Only had it since December so the chance to fully explore the capability has been limited.

Andriod auto wireless possible?
I use Waze too. The main issue I have at the moment is how long it takes to boot. It takes a minute or 2 to connect and get running on the screen. The other issue is system specific and they are working on a fix. When using audible and the map pings (change of route or similar) the sound output is reduced to voice control volume. My quick fix is to hold the voice control button to activate Google assistant then tap to screen to cancel. That brings back the normal volume. For me it only happens on audible and when nav is active.

Considering an IV purchase
When running in hybrid mode there is very little electric support while the engine is running. Only during gear change or before the engine kicks in when applying the go pedal. Yes you get regen when braking and also sometimes when going down hill with feet off the pedals. To get the car to properly recharge you need to change the mode: E Hybrid Battery hold Battery charge Should be fairly clear what each mode does. If not feel free to get clarification or search YouTube. There are quite a few vids explaining how the modes work. It's an enjoyable platform and very suitable for the user that needs a runabout during the week and a long distance cruiser now and then. We just came back from a couple of days away (150 miles each way) and you really don't notice any difference in performance after the battery has run out. Of course I have the Passat GTE which has the GTE mode. That's a little different, but I only use to pass someone usually. The rest of the platform is the same as the Skoda. Edit: just to add that to get the full 218ps from the Skoda you have to press the pedal to the floor I think. Otherwise it's 156 or whatever the engine is rated at. Not driven the Skoda version so might be wrong. I'd be surprised if it was in the equivalent of GTE mode the whole time though.

No trip reset
I doubt this is what the op is doing. Many people service their own vehicle and require the ability to reset the service indicator. Pretty sure vcds/obd11 has the ability.

Andriod auto wireless possible?
Pretty sure the only dongle for wireless AA is this one. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/aawireless I have one and although it's not flawless it does the job for bombing about. Any longer journey I just unplug it and use the supplied cable on my phone. A mate has a go between box in his Audi that circa£200 that does it too (and wireless carplay) but it works by adding another OS into the system somewhere. Long press on media button etc.

Andriod auto wireless possible?
Yes. You need an AAwireless dongle or a spare phone. Search the interwebs for either method. Phone method for the techy who has a spare phone. AAwireless for a more seamless experience.

skoda superb 2013 steering wheel swap advice please
If it's a MK3 and you have buttons on the wheel then it should work fine. I have one you can have for postage plus some beers if interested.

Dog cam
My dash cam is a mirror one with an extra rear camera on a long cable. Pretty sure you can set it to watch the rear. Would be easy to set it up to point at the doggo.

Wider tyres
There's more to it than simply having a wider tyre. Go too wide and the height will go up too much so you have to compensate by dropping the profile. Often when going lower profile the sidewall will be stiffer making it harsher. Also the bigger tyre will weight more so may feel harsher. You could consider going smaller. 205/50/17 is similar in rolling diameter to the stock 225/45/17 and may well have a softer sidewall. It would also fit the 7inch wide rims/ If comfort is your priority then go down a load rating while keeping it within the specs for the car and maybe choose a tyre that is know for being softer. Uniroyal rainsports are quite soft I think. Just be ready for higher fuel usage and faster wear.

Under-Bonnet Thermal Insulation
Look up the intake mods on TSI mqb chassis. Basically involves blanking one bit off, opening up another bit and removing the snow grate. Cost is nothing if you already have the tools. Should drop the intake temp by a tad and also keep the engine bay cleaner. For what it's worth the engines are well designed thermally and you will have to spend a lot of time and money to improve the thermal efficiency of the overall package.

Intermittent hard /loss of brakes.
As @flybynite says. A full dealer history just means the car hasn't been taken anywhere else. Doesn't mean it's had all the necessary maintenance done or even to a good standard. Just means it's been recorded in one place. good shout getting the fluid done. It will at least clear one possiblity.

Rear mud guards
I had them fitted with prokit springs so 20mm lower than vrs and only ever scraped them going up/down curbs. Speed bumps shouldn't be an issue.

Superb iV kWh consumed per month
Don't forget to reduce the charging current when using a smart plug. Don't want to burn it out. They may say they are rated for 13a but not for long periods.

More Tyre, Less Rim
You won't notice 3mm unless you are a racing driver with decades of experience. I'd take the opportunity to go a little lower on the offset and fill the arches out a bit. Even at 35mm the tyres will sit 16mm further out. Shouldn't be able to feel the change much but it will look smarter. Go for in between if you don't fancy that look. I have 20mm spacers on the back and 12mm on the front. Had them on the Octavia with no issues. Does the same as reducing the offset by the same amount.

Wheels help please
Off topic warning! I was thinking about this and wondered what it was that made it 10mm lower. I originally assumed it was the shocks. But that would make the prokit drop it by the designed 30-35mm. So the only other think could be the springs. So there must be 3 spring heights. Standard, sportline and DCC. If that's the case it give more options for tuning ride height.

Vrs 2015 looking to swap out the stereo
Yeah that looks like mib1 bolero. Go between is a box that plugs between the glovebox unit (head unit) and screen. There are a few available I think with various features. Original ones were for proper nav. Think Tom Tom but built in. Later ones have the ability to android auto or carplay (that's what my mate has).

Vrs 2015 looking to swap out the stereo
Yeah Pawel will help. He's the guru and can supply a coded unit and screen. A 2015 diesel vrs will likely have either a bolero or Amundsen system. Both being mib1. As yours doesn't have satnav it's probably bolero. There are some go between boxes that are activated by holding the media button and that may be am option for you. A mate did this recently with his a3 and said it works fine.

Intermittent hard /loss of brakes.
I would not assume this at all. Regular service is usually a simple oil change and maybe a fuel, air or pollen filter. Many garages or dealer won't check brakes unless specified by the customer. However it sounds like the usual checks have been done in this error search so should be ok.

Vrs 2015 looking to swap out the stereo
Heads up @pab567. Another customer in the waiting room OP you'll be spending £400+ to get apple car play. If it's cheap sat nav you want then an android unit will do the job but you'll need a small amount of android knowledge to make the most of it. Side loading apps etc. Easy to find the info needed.
