  1. I am on my third VAG car with this system. Apart from the phantom wipes it's occasionally does in the dry I haven't had any issues with it. You set the sensitivity with the little selector on top of the stalk and leave in auto. When it rains the wipers start. If it rains harder the wipers go faster. If it's stops then the wipers stop. If you are having issues then maybe give the windscreen a good clean as the sensor patch could be dirty and the rest of the screen not clearing how it should?
  2. The decreased offset (further out) will help with it not hitting the arms on full lock. Pretty sure the stock width is 7.5 so the inner face should be similar. 12mm change in offset but 12.5 wider (6.25mm either way) so 6.25mm further away. The outer face will be the 12mm offset + 6.25mm further out. So 18.25mm. Plenty have run 20mm spacers which do effectively the same to the outer face. As you have said, the main issue will be the rolling diameter. This may rub the arches. Especially with the greater poke. Also need to check the center bore. 57.1mm I think, although you should check this as it's a guess. tl:dr tyres may rub because they are bigger and will stick out more.
  3. Recently fitted cross climates to my Passat of the same size. Nice predictable response all round. Far too early to comment on wear but I imagine it will be a fair bit different to most with the added weight and torque of the electric bits in the hybrid setup. Also just got rid of similar condition Pirellis on our Arona for cross climates. Not had a chance to drive it yet (Mrs G's car) but imagine it's a similar story to my car.
  4. Double check the mayo in the oil and also give it some beans to see if any odd coloured smoke (or any smoke!) comes out the back.
  5. Yes on the tyre side I would trust a fwd on winter tyres over a 4wd on summers. Obviously only relevant for 3-4months of the year.
  6. This is folk law. The gearbox adapts over time to different conditions and inputs. Temperature, clutch wear, engine output...... At no point does it actually learn the drivers style. Yes you can reset the adaptations and many have reported a positive experience afterwards (me included). Double checking with the eco mode coasting is a surefire way to check if the modes are changing. There have been a few reports over the years of VAG cars mode selector fails so it does happen.
  7. Maybe you are asking about my shocks? I have them now, sooner than expected. Just trying to find a slot in the garage to get them fitted along with a couple other jobs. I'm keeping it stock height though. I did notice on a review somewhere that the shock travel is longer than stock shocks allowing more sag into holes before they top out. Helps with the fancy valving apparently and would explain why a handful of people said they increase the ride height like the B6's. Pretty sure they don't but I will make sure to get a before and after measurement on each corner.
  8. Do you have dsg or DCC? The engine will not give you more power in sport mode if that's what you are expecting.
  9. First rule of mapping: don't chase the peak figure. A map that gets you a high top end may stress the engine more than one with 5-10hp less. You hardly ever take the engine to that peak revs so it's a wasted effort. By all means if the higher map offers other features that you like then go for it. Especially the likes of APR and Revo. They are well known. The curve shape is the most important bit. You are looking for a gently increasing smooth line for hp and a similar smooth line for torque. Obviously you won't be able to spot those things on yours until after the map but the company should be able to offer you an example plot. Where the lines cross before and after is also a good indication of how the new map is improved. Hard to compare between companies as the scale could be different on the axis but a before and after comparison should indicate a good gain.
  10. Pretty sure the cable is near the bottom of the shock. Should be easy to spot if it's DCC or not.
  11. If it's in 5th and you want 4th. Try pressing on the go pedal just before you shift. A fraction of a second is enough to "warn" the box that you don't want that higher gear but a lower one. It's a bit like kick down but you are the one shifting and you obviously aren't giving it so much gas that the engine revs it's tits off
  12. But.....if the car has received good services on the button for every possible serviceable part it may be worth it. As said above the dog should be good at that usage and the rest of the car could be a peach. Even more likely if the servicing is good. At that mileage I'd expect annual oil change and all the haldex, brake fluid etc to have been done a couple of times.
  13. Not sure you can use headphones with Android auto. Can we ask why you are so determined to use the screen in the car? Will your daughter be sat in the front? Just seems like a lot of effort to go through to watch a movie and interested in your motivation.
  14. Sure I can. Although I will probably add to this thread and open another in the non-skoda section to be clear that it's on a Passat.
  15. Someone on speak ev had to change the 12v battery on their passat. Found the system performed better with a cheaper basic battery rather than a modern stop start battery. Do you know what is installed now? It's in the boot under the left cubby In the passat so very likely to be the same position in the superb.
  16. Do you have Netflix or prime or similar? Get her an Amazon tablet. They are by far cheapest way to get a screen in front of the kids. Obviously comes with loads of warning about screen time etc. Most streaming services have the ability to download so no need to stress your data.
  17. Oh yeah so the figures I quoted were from stock height. Sportline is 10 or 15mm lower already? My Passat is same height as standard superb. Hence my mention of the different spring sets. Axle weights quoted on the eibach specs are the same for front but 3kg more for the superb. That's not enough to account for the added drop so there must be a difference in the springs. Maybe it's an option for you guys in superbs instead of adding the TT top pads?
  18. The 1.4 in the gte and other VAG hybrids is a different engine to the original 1.4. It has some different coatings and components to make it better for continuously stopping and starting the engine. It's one of the reasons it is the only size engine available for the hybrid systems. Otherwise they may as well put a 2.0 on it for more power or a 1.0 for smaller cars/low power. Actually I think it would work really nicely with a 1.0 and use even less fuel.
  19. @Awesam do you know what the drop is at each end as it stands now? @JR RS would you expect rubbing with 20mm spacers and lowering of 25-30mm (prokit) With 18s? (235/45/18 I think). Or is that a combo you cant comment on? I have a set of 12mm spacers on the shelf so could fit those if needed as that sounds like it would fit ok. Finally, I have ordered a set of Koni Special Actives. Expected delivery is September. I have not ordered springs as I was going to try it stock height. Will I regret no lowering at this stage and may as well do springs too while the car is "in bits"? Strangely the passat gte springs are 25mm at the rear but the superb iV is 30-35mm. Both cars being 35mm front. Car will be going into the garage for the work as I don't have the patience or time to be doing that job. Took me 2 days last time!
  20. I treat it almost as a game to see how much I can get from a charge. Knowing that the engine is there to pick up where the electrons don't is fine with me. Also the many miles of ev driving more than makes up for the odd occasion I put it in GTE mode for some fun. I just need to get on a better electric tariff......
  21. @Awesam you have spacers fitted too? I'm in 20mm in the back and do think it would run if lowered too much.
  22. Turning the air off in my GTE saves a fair bit of battery for ev driving. First car I've owned that has a notable effect on economy. Doesn't seen to make a huge difference in hybrid mode though. Just means you chew through charge quicker as it used the main battery when the engine shuts off. I have wind deflectors fitted so crack the windows and manage to get a little air flow without letting too much weather in.
  23. Didn't realise that. They aren't mechanical like old cars. How are they controlled then?
  24. Only had the car since December and the honey moon period has meant I've kept on top of the fluids. So I've not had it go empty before last week. Will try to run it empty again and see if it does the same thing. Extended the warranty do I have 11 months to get it sorted if faulty. Thanks for making me think about it.
  25. Should have read "all my cars". Sorry. Typing on the phone. As I said, all the cars o have owned with canbus controlled vents (2x Octavia, 1x Passat, 1x seat arona) all blow air from all the vents. When you set it to feat only it still sends a small amount through the dash vents. The only way I can see it working as you expect is to shut the vents manually as @Noms says.
