  1. I'd still love to see the data as a VCDS log sometime, if anyone else shares my curiosity, and has the car and kit to investigate.
  2. Skoda-Parts.com Borská 87/47a 301 00, Plzeň, CZ
  3. You can assure me, but I'd be much more likely to believe it if you could show me somehow with some VCDS data or similar.
  4. Oil cooler I would guess.
  5. I'd stick with one from the same engine, or one with exactly the same part number including suffixes. BLT version has fewer valves inside than the ASZ I seem to remember, probably to do with the electric as opposed to vacuum operated anti-shudder valve/TB. Check for wiring damage near the connector before spending on anything though.
  6. If it sorts itself out within 200km, is it worth bothering?
  7. With the registered version I see the following for engine ECU, Central Elec and Instrument cluster modules on my Polo, none of which show anything to do with cruise control, slightly to my surprise. Maybe I don't have the right version of J519? Never thought of trying to fit it, so dunno really. There will be various documents available via erWin if nowhere else that would give tables of coding for whichever is/are the relevant modules of your car, similar to these pop-ups. An example for my Polo engine ECU is: Not sure how you'd work out which documents you'd need easily though, especially if not sure which modules are relevant.. I'll have a look at our Fabia tomorrow, see if that shows anything more helpful.
  8. Awesome, I think you've just taught me something. I'm pretty sure my latency has always shown as poor. Just assumed that was 'as good as it gets'.
  9. I'll be happy to hear that any of those fixes/workarounds work for you, but I can't help wondering if it isn't something like a poor connection between engine ECU and Central Elec unit, since everything else is 'unflaky'. Edit: having thought about it for another minute, maybe it is just that the engine ECU exchanges more data with the diag port and VCDS than any other module, so it could still be selectively affected even with excellent wiring etc. if there's some bottleneck that doesn't matter for other modules' data.
  10. More configuration than data. If the car it came from had all the same options, it's probably been coded identically, but if not there might be some functional anomalies. This page shows (as an example that may not be exactly comparable) the coding options for a 9N Polo, you get the coding by adding together all the numbers for each of the fitted bits of kit. VW Polo (9N) Central Electronics - Ross-Tech Wiki VCDS Lite ought to be adequate for recoding, and for clearing the airbag fault AFAIK, as recently confirmed a few threads down from this one: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/498514-anyone-use-vcds-lite-on-their-early-mk2/ But I guess you don't know how the original unit was/is coded, unless you have a historical VCDS autoscan saved somewhere? I'll try to find the equivalent coding table for your car when I get a chance. If everything you expect to work works, there's probably no need to do anything pending relay arrival.
  11. Not a lot of downdraught going on as he gets out, judging by his shirt.
  12. I was only guessing about cruise requiring a recode of engine ECU, maybe it's only Central Elec? BXW rings a vague bell for a 1.4/16v in a mk2? Big thanks from me for demonstrating that Lite does indeed seem to work on early mk2s.
  13. Not true, but I'm pretty sure if anything works via the K wire, everything should. The cable and VCDS side of things seems to be fine, in my undereducated opinion.
  14. The engine ECU is probably the one you most want to be able to chat with/recode in order to enable the cruise though, right? I don't think the CAN wiring comes out to the diagnostic connector, but will check later. 4HV is the engine ECU type, I think, not engine code. See link in my sig for how to find that. Is it the original engine ECU?
  15. They are contacts that make/break circuits as the vent control knob is moved to different positions, and possibly the temperature control too. There are only pairs of pads on the board (yellow rectangles) for two to be fitted on this variant - from a 9N Polo - but positions in the white plastic moulding for two others associated with the temperature control knob. Only the one fitted (in one of the green rectangles) as shown in this case, but I have taken this unit apart several times so the other may have dropped out and got lost/misplaced. The one here possibly senses when the knob is pointing at windscreen vents to do some A/C-related function, not sure what the other would do on this one if fitted. I think if there was one on the temperature control knob it would indicate 'max temp demanded' to the stuff controlling a PTC auxiliary electric heater, only fitted to diesel Fabias and only then as an option, ISTR. Have a look where there are similar pairs of gold-plated pads on your board and hope that there aren't too many choices to confuse matters!
  16. Very promising. Sounds familiar. I think once you get this sorted all will be well. From the ross-tech site: If when you try to connect to a control module, you get the error message "Can't Synch Baud Rate", go to the Options Screen and try setting the Start Baud to 9600. If 9600 doesn't work, also try 4800 and 1200. Turn the car's ignition OFF and back ON after each failed attempt to connect!
  17. 3B2 837 016R is the part number of the front right door lock on your car - assuming RHD, according to this page (last item (1)): door handle, exterior - Fabia(FAB) [EUROPA 2006 year] (7zap.com)
  18. Have you checked that module connector for any signs of water ingress? Anyone near you with VCDS that might be able to connect to it, or attempt to?
  19. You'll be fine then. Not sure what you would see if it genuinely can't communicate; I vaguely remember trying to scan workmates' cars that needed the CAN-based interface and it just being clear that it wasn't compatible. Don't recall the exact error messages though. As per the function chart, the unregistered version won't do autoscan, but you can just select each module of interest individually and scan/tweak once you're connected. Don't make any changes to anything before making sure you have a record of the pre-change value.
  20. That light just means 'emissions systems fault' I think. No DPF or anything like it to worry about on your car; so seek out the nearest VCDS-owning member who might scan your car for what the light means in your case, or take to a garage for diagnostics.
  21. Oh yeah, all mk1s play nicely with VCDS Lite. One thing I would mention at this point @WezFab is that it can take a bit of messing about with ports and settings to get the cable/software combo working once plugged into a car. Don't give up at the first error message, by any means. Help info will come with the cable I expect; and I also seem to remember there are some de-snagging FAQ bits and pieces on the ross-tech site; their search function is not bad, I think.
  22. You can download the wiring info yourself by going to this thread, clicking 'download ' then the fifth file option CFD 2000-2002. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/files/file/76-mk1-fabia-workshop-manuals/
