  1. I know this is an unfashionable opinion, but it is also worth (if your firmware is capable) - of enabling "Skoda Surround" on the MIB system. This is a coding change only. See my posting from a while ago, but it has all the options to enable up this feature:
  2. They are good engines. My other half owned a 1.0tsi Octavia and it went very well. We even have the same engine in our Golf Match 1.0TSI Estate manual. They are really good engines. Long runs will return you 70mpg; Short runs about 50-60mpg. Don't expect anything in terms of performance, but it will get up to speed reasonably quickly and sit on the fast roads all day if you want it to. Bumbling around town is also easy. Expect to use the gearbox and drop it down a cog when it gets hilly. Avoid the 1.0tsi engine with a DQ200 box; engine is fine, but the gearbox will make the car labour and makes it an unpleasant experience. Fuel economy will also be poorer on a DSG gearbox.
  3. It fitted like a dream. It's definitely the biggest battery and the only gotcha I had was making sure the manufacturer was set to VA0 (for Varta/Bosch). You need to transfer the thermal surround and also the +ve terminal plastic cover.
  4. Not necessarily. If you can get hold of the firmware file and have a reasonable IT background, then you can do it yourself.
  5. You have to remember that Golfs,Octavia's and Leon's normally have their coolant changed under pressure (at the dealers). If you haven't seen any further coolant leaks, it's probably because the system has burped itself. Usually (if you don't have a pressure system for filling), fill up the header tank as far as possible, then start the cat with the cap off (warning.. hot coolant alert). Let the car get up to temperature and wait until it BURPS and then you can put the cap back on. Keep an eye on the header tank, but usually once it's cleared itself, it's fine. Issue is that heater matrix is the highest point of the cooling system. Air get trapped in the matrix, so hence the water pump has to push that air out. Heater on HI, fan on low, let it heat up until the fan comes on. Gentle pinching of the coolant pipes to encourage the air pockets to remove themselves from the system.
  6. You need version 0480 which is the current latest version. It did improve performance for Carplay and also Android Auto.
  7. They need VCDS as a minimum to do the adaptions.
  8. Yes, updating to a later firmware definitely helps. The process is glitchy though.
  9. One point I didn't mention earlier. When you had your DSG fluid and filter change, did they do it right? I've seen boxes overfilled (because people neglect to drain off the excess at 32-36C). Check the pressures in the gearbox, make sure the pump is not over or under delivering of fluid to the clutch pressure plates). You will see a requested pressure and a actual pressure. Make sure they are similar. Drive around normally, see what the gear changes are doing. You'll need a ODBELEVEN to check the pressures.
  10. Yerr...you bet. That is definitely something I wouldn't have forgotten about.
  11. Okay. It is worth learning how the DSG gearbox works. https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessories-tyres/107959/dsg-what-is-a-direct-shift-gearbox-and-how-do-they-work
  12. So the Octavia seems to be starting to experience a failing battery. Not terrible but auto stop/start is not working (SoC never seeming to get above 60%). A quick test (EN A) - battery should be 680A EN. It's showing 435A EN. Not great. To replacements: I wanted to get hold of a OEM replacement Moll battery but they only exist in Germany/CZ). So the recommendation for replacement is a Bosch S4 E08 battery. Has anybody fitted one of these into their car? It looks (and measures) slightly larger than the OEM. Didn't want to order it and find it didn't fit!
  13. From the video, it looks like you are spanking the car (foot flat to floor). It sounds like the clutch are trying not to cook themselves and I suspect a firmware update has been done on the DQ381 (to ease the speed of the gearbox to match the engine speed). I would agree that 80k miles/132k kilometres is too much between fluid changes. It might well be the adaptions still need to match up to your driving style (this can take a while). I would also recommend that you change the accelerator mode to Audi mode (linear) to stop the gearbox fighting with the logarithmic VW/Skoda profile.
  14. In terms of fuel consumption, as posters have put above, it all depends on your driving style. The turbocharger is designed to keep you pushing well between 2200 and 3500 rpm, they don't generally give much above that. In standard spec, your 2016 car can push out 180bhp. VAG TDI engines do not respond well to tuning (you might get an extra 20-30bhp without major upgrades). In UK MPG (and depending on temperature, way you drive and distance covered), you should get 42-55mpg. The longer/faster you drive it, the better. Make sure you allow the car to do full-regens (keep the DPF clear) and my personal recommendation (although controversial) is that some Cetane improver is put into the fuel system to improve combustion or use some super diesel occasionally to improve performance and keep the engine running well. One thing to note; don't be afraid to really push the car. TDI engines (once warm) go like stink. Make sure you regularly change the oil (vw507 grade) - 5W30 or 0W30 as it is now and take the vehicle on some long and fast runs (100kms plus) to keep it happy.
  15. Sadly no. With the Swing, it is a very basic unit. If you willing to invest in a MIB2/2.5 Bolaro unit (with matching screen), then this unit can be made to work. You will need to speak with @pab567 who will be able to furnish you with a unit and screen as necessary (but you have to be knowledgeable with electronics and coding).
  16. Are you aware that Skoda do genuine OEM seat covers for the Octavia? NEW GENUINE SKODA OCTAVIA (5E) PAIR FRONT WATERPROOF SEAT COVERS GREY 5E0062001.
  17. I would try and get OEM if you can. I've seen some poor quality bolts on eBay. Buyer beware.
  18. Sounds like the coding might be out in that case. Who replaced the cluster? If it was Skoda then take it back and get them to put the correct coding back on.
  19. Generally you can only relearn adaptions on the DSG gearboxes. Most important thing is fluids and filters on DSG gearboxes. If the mechatronics unit is being sill and non-responsive, they are expensive to replace (usually seals fail at high mileages if fluids are not changed on time) and they need rebuilding (not a home mechanic job).
  20. No..it's coding and checking up on parameters using either VCDS or ODBEleven.
  21. Dynamic chassis control. If you are able to get a proper P code, we can look that issue up. The vacuum sensor doesn't look serious but again a proper P code would be beneficial. If this looks like a clean car, has a full service history, it might be worth purchasing the warranty from Skoda UK (can be used on cars up to 10 years old) and make it Skoda's problem!!!
  22. Make sure you go with genuine OEM parts; water pump design has been revised and hopefully you shouldn't experience any further issues. Stick with the VAG specialist and make sure they quote for genuine parts.
  23. Tracking is out. Octavia/Golf are notorious for throwing out their tracking. Go to your local Skoda Dealer and get a 4 wheel alignment sorted. Noise should go away.
  24. If it a 6 speed DQ250 all wheel drive box, you'll need to do two things to smooth out the drive; it sounds like the same issue I had my Scout. The engine and the gearbox are slightly fighting with each other. First; check the outputs from the gearbox; check the pressure (most important are the requested pressure and actual pressure. If you have low pressure you will get these hesitant pauses in gear changes. Make sure they also changed the filter (not just do a oil change). Second, you need to move the car into Audi mode (linear acceleration) mode as opposed to Skoda/VW mode (logarithmic mode). All that should get you a buttery smooth gear change.
