Emergency braking with Winter Tyres and Winter-tyres mode engaged
An interesting observation; but kind of expected behavour. I've purchased some winter tyres for my Octy Scout - and have enabled Winter Tyres mode on the MIB system. All is good. Speed warning works just fine. However, once every week or so, I perform the obliguitory Emergency brake test. On normal tyres, the car brakes nice and straight and the hazzards flash away....all is good with the world. With my Winter Tyres on and with Winter Tyres enabled on the car, the car is now brakes very differently. ABS is a lot less effective and I cannot (under any circumstances) - get the hazards to flash....they refuse to do it. I am assuming that the braking profile changes and this means that the car acts differently, but I didn't know whether this was expected behavour or not. Many thanks (chilly from Scotland)

Revs issue at idle.
Agreed with you for older cars, but the glow plugs do assist with the burn process (especially if the car is running cold). Intermittent glow plugs can cause all kinds of bizzare running, so it is best to get it checked out. A scan of the Canbus network will give us all direction.

Boot latch not working
Yup - I can help you there.....your boot latch has failed. Its a common Octavia/Golf problem. The switch seems to either get water into it or it just fails. The latch is a fairly easy to replace. I actually have a spare one sitting here on my desk.....I will PM you and we can exchange details and I'll get you the switch to you. Thanks Max

Revs issue at idle.
One thing to help us the great unwashed of Briskoda Land - is to get a scan of your car to see if it is throwing up an error on the CANBUS network. Post your scan of any errors here. You will need to find someone close who has a VCDS or ODBEleven scanner. An investment of £60 will get you a starter pack on ODBEleven (you'll need an Android or Apple phone though). Couple of things to look at first: 1) Servicing - I am assuming all the basics are good - oil is good (was it serviced recently??). A thought on this one; is one of the air-lines or the air-filter housing loose? An air-leak will cause the car to run lean. 2) Check the air filter - is it dirty? If so, replace ASAP as that will mess up the performance. 3) You might have a dodgy glow-plug - they do and can fail. A scan of the CANBUS network will give us that info. 4) Fuel - you might have a dodgy batch of fuel. My TDI's (adminitely all 2.0 vehicles) - are terribly sensitive to poor quality fuels. If you are filling up with supermarket fuels, might I suggest a tank of decent branded go-go juice (something like BP, Esso) as these places put in additional additives into the fuel to help the burn process. 5) Do you drive on short-journeys? If so, this is NOT good for the TDI's. Find a nice fast road (e.g. the M25) and take it for an Italian tune-up (the car needs to be at 2350rpm for period of about 15-20 miles for a good re-gen to occur). The car needs hot engine conditions to regen itself and keep the engine in fine fettle. If my TDI is feeling sluggish, I tend to drop it into manual and leave it a gear lower and let it clear itself out. Many thanks

FIXED: Problems with enabling Cornoring Fogs on Octavia SE FL 2018
@langers2kYEH - fantastic. All is now working on my husbands SE. Fogs now enabled when turning (although lights have to be on dipped for them to activate) and when engaging in reverse, both fogs now light up. I consider this to be 100% successful. Many thanks once again.

VW Data Plug Compatibility
Arh - welcome to the dodgy Firmware problems of Skoda Connect Lite / VW dongle. They DO NOT work properly out of the box. You have to be persistent. It took me 3 attempts at my mother-in-law's Fabia, but it eventually took. Here are the things I had to do. 1) Switch off any power saving modes you may have switched on. This knackers up the initial communication with the dongle. Please remember, you have to have the ignition on / engine on whilst the car is connecting and upgrading the firmware. 2) If you get a failed - initialisation - be patient; then delete the pairing and the dongle, and try again. You need to be in a situation where the firmware of the dongle is allowed to be upgraded (I think from 9.0.5.0 to 9.0.8.0), then the app will start querying the car and downloading the matrices. 3) When you are done and eventually you get the phone paired and the car communicates, go into Settings and go into "Making a phone call when the hands-free system" - and enable "Hands-free-mode". This means you can allow the phone to talk to the dongle and the car MIB system at the same time. PM me if you need further help.

Scout is going in for Firmware updates (and a service)
Grr - West End Skoda came back....seems they've had a change of heart.... We have checked all the firmware updates that you mention and there is none of them that we are able to do. There may be a couple that ŠKODA would recommend if there was a fault with anything that is controlled by that ECU, but unless it is recommended by ŠKODA as part of a product enhancement or technical bulletin relating to a complaint we are unable to carry these out. As with long coding and forced software updates (for tuning etc.), there is always a chance of causing internal damage to ECU's. I hope this explains West End Garage's stance on this matter It all seemed so positive; however, I will now question the source (ie the ODBEleven forums) as well as finding out from Skoda UK what their perspective is.

Scout is going in for Firmware updates (and a service)
The updates are done by explicit request. Iam IT person and updates are a normal part of life. They are important because they fix faults and flaws and imperfections in the functionality of a piece of hardware. All modern Skodas are computers on wheels and whether you like it or not, the latest generation of Skodas will have firmware patches applied on the fly as part of their day to day operation. The MK3 Octavias can be treated in the same vane....the modules have updates and there are good reasons why VW have released new firmware versions. It is terribly wasteful to say - hey my car is running sub-optimally but Ill live with it and get a newer car to fix a software fault. Not good. I will no doubt be charged market rate for the firmware updates and my dealer is interested in process as well because it is good business for them and also keeps customers happy....so Ill be the guinea pig. However, the caviat being that if they break it, they fix it....so hey ho.....their risk too. Admittedly, VW and most car manufacturers don't make it easy to update but this attitude has to change with modern cars becoming connected 24/7. Some of you may not agree with my stance; that's cool. Im not going into this blind; I am just treating my cars as they were designed...to be updated devices. The MK3 FL Octy's do have the ability to remotely update but it is limited functionality (such as patches for the MIB2.5 system) but nothing else unless you visit the dealer. Taking @PetrolDave point ; a lot of dealers do not have the experience with software updates....it blackmagic to them. Their master technician knows how to do it, but other techs probably not. Deny all plausibility and hope the customer goes away. I get my details from ODBELEVEN on the firmware updates....and that information generally pretty reliable....so I am happy with that concept.

Clock resets to European time
IF you check out the VCDS modifications, you will find there is a mod to allow the car to automatically move itself between GMT and BST. You will be VCDS or ODBEleven Pro to achieve this though.

Skoda Connect issue
Skoda Connect issues can be very frustrating. The backend VW system has a habit of logging EVERYONE out from the VW Discovery Portal / Skoda Connect Portal. I think that with e-call or Connect Care packages, VW/Skoda are generally going around and deactivating people's access if the system doesn't 'see' the car for a period of 60 days. The e-call/Connect Care system also has a SIM that VW/Skoda could have disabled. Try logging into your Skoda Connect. Remove your car and then try and re-add it (either via Skoda Connect Portal or via the Skoda Connect App). You can also try and reactivate the car by tethering the car to a WLAN hotspot - I do mine from my car. The problem here - is going to be at the back-end - try logging into Skoda Connect web portal (not via the app) - and see what the status of the car is. IMHO - the trip log has never really worked properly unless you car is online via a WLAN Hotspot tether and even then it is a bit hit/miss. Skoda log every one out of the Skoda Connect portal - and because of GDPR - it doesn't remember your login details. When you login, is this on the app? The app is a WEB2.0 application, so if the iphone is setup to forget all login settings or you have blitzed your browsing history, then this will also cause you to have to login everytime.

Rear fog light not working. Octavia 3 2017
So - if you have one side an LED variant and the other side a incandescent variant for the fog light - in *theory* it will still work. So - if one tail lamp is LED, you have to tell VCDS that it is a option 40 - as opposed to option 9 - which is the incandescent bulb option.

2019 vRS Skoda Connect Activation or lack of!
@vRS245MGI hope you don't mind giving everyone an update. Several messages backwards and forwards between us. I think that we had an odd situation - where the Skoda Connect service has been upgraded for the e-call system or Connect Care system, but it hasn't been activated properly. There is a license outstanding within the car (got 7 months remaining), but the car itself does not recognise any of the Connect Care services. This could be that that the dealer has tried to implement Connect Care, but hasn't done it properly (implimented this via a license purchase, but not implemented this via a license key option). Sometimes I think it maybe worth getting Skoda Customer Services involved. If you canny use a service, because the car is not configured correctly, then you need your Skoda Connect services put on pause until it is fixed. Baring in mind, it costs £40 for the Infortainment option alone, and I think another £30 for Skoda Connect Care.

Scout is going in for Firmware updates (and a service)
I booked my long suffering Scout for a service at West End Skoda. The poor car has only been in my ownership for a year - purchased when the car had only 2800 miles on the clock in December 2019 and it now has 23000 miles. I'm out of sync with my servicing, so this will be an oil change service only. Anyhow, the service adviser and myself got onto the subject of firmware updates (because he is genuinely interested in the updates that I'm doing to the car and switching on all of the options via VCDS). I said that my vehicle is somewhat behind on firmware versions for the Climatronic (currently 2002 - there is a 2401 version) and also one version behind on the DSG DQ381 gearbox (currently 2406 - there is a 2407 version). They have no problems with updating the firmware to the latest versions, so lets see what is upgraded and what the differences are. So - I will update everyone on the 3rd December when it goes in for a fettle.

Sasha’s Octavia vRS
@SashaGracewhat I want to look at - is the inside of your fusebox - partly because I'm just nosy (because I want to see a car with all of the fuseholders being used) and partly because I imagine that it might be electrically a - little complicated - in there at the moment. As you have removed the glove compartment so many times, has there been wear and tear on that component too?

Adblue remaining range
It should be there in Driving Data. Find your Average MPG - then it is should be three/four UP on the scrolling wheel (right hand scroll). My Scout is an MY19 - and has the AdBlue remaining miles.

Redex any good for emissions?
The other method is that you can improve your emissions by taking the car out on a long/fast run. Making sure that the engine is warmed up first, then keep the car in a lower gear (typically no higher than 4th) - and give the car some beans. The Italian tune-up method - but this is a trick from old. It used to be the case that the MOT tester took the car up and down the local bypass in 3rd - and then straight into the MOT tester emissions test with a hot engine.

I think you are being called up on the 3years vs. the usual 60k miles. 3 years is a normal time to change it over.

2019 vRS Skoda Connect Activation or lack of!
I've send you a PM - give me a shout and I'll give you a hand with getting Skoda Connect activated. You will need your mobile phone, a USB lead and some time. We will also need to get you registered on the Skoda portal. Once that is all done, your services should be live. Thanks Max

WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT 3 YEARS under Warranty
The dodgy waterpump was fixed by the time the Octy's got to FL status; your car being a 2017 may or may not have been a FL model. A good call to get the waterpump and timing belt done.
