  1. So I think the Travel Mode applies only to Matrix headlights not the standard LEDs, for which Eurolights et al sell deflectors with fitting guides. From experience, the Eurolights version is very good - but finding the correct fitting position is critical. Out of five trips I only managed a perfect position for them twice. First attempt looked ok but basically had no effect, moving them about 5mm and they were fine. But moving them kills the adhesive, both flew off on the autoroute 🙄
  2. Not yet ☹️ I will chase them (again!)
  3. You’ve probably seen the recent thread about the amazing economy of the manual 1.5tsi ACT. On long motorway runs my manual estate will comfortably return 60mpg. In the four years I’ve had mine the relative economy of the 1.4IV and 1.5tsi ACT has been debated in this forum but from memory not in threads which are obviously titled. A bit of time searching will hopefully reveal them. IIRC, some folk with the IV get 90+mpg on shortish runs where a reasonable proportion is on battery. Conversely, the long motorway runs give high 40s mpg. Caveat - those numbers are from memory, but should be in the right ballpark. It will come down to the mix of journeys you do. For me, the petrol wins because the vast majority of my mileage is long runs (Hampshire to N Wales or Scotland), and like you, about 16000 miles/year. Most of our short runs are the domain of the other half’s CityGo. The 1.5 drives nicely, plenty quick enough without the excitement offer by a VRS. It will cruise all day fully loaded at motorway speeds and surprisingly (to me) quiet & comfortable. For context, before this Octavia I had a manual mk2 1.4tsi Superb hatch (twin door boot/hatch).
  4. Totally agree. Ever since getting mine, some 50k miles ago, I’ve been amazed at the fuel economy. Frequently top 60mpg on long motorway runs at/near the legal limit, and it’s often at or near @spcdust figure. Constant speeds help massively, and the ACT cylinder shutoff which @Ootohererefers to must make a big difference - it seems implausible to be on a near level motorway, sat at 70mph, running on two cylinders with an indicated 100+mpg.
  5. That’s the style of headlight I have on mine; no means of adjusting the left/right hand drive setting for the headlights - only range (up and down). When I first got the car (nigh on four years ago) I fiddled with the Travel Option in the menus; made no difference. Since then I haven’t looked for that setting so don’t know if it’s there or not.
  6. Don't forget, to use your phones voice control, you need a long press, then google assistant (or whatever it's called) to take requests to play music. Laura would be good to play music from a USB stick.
  7. Welcome to the forums and your new Octavia. I'm not familiar with Android phones (I use an iPhone) but I think the Pixel 3a supports Android Auto (AA). That is probably the easiest way to access music, apps etc on your phone from the car. The voice control should work with your phone too. Once AA is set up, press and hold the steering wheel button until the phone asks for input (a short press will initiate Laura, the cars own voice control system). I've not had any issues using USB sticks for media. A simple FAT or FAT32 filesystem and folders full of mp3 files seems to work fine for me. I don't have any playlists though, but the car, in theory, supports several formats, for example m3u. A few screenshots from a pdf version of the manual below. Also, there have been a few threads about the best format for media files on USB sticks in the Octavia Mk4. Try using the search function within the Skoda Octavia Mk4 forum.
  8. Open Navigation app in the infotainment system. Then… Settings: Route guidance settings: scroll down to Road signs: Speed warning. Choice of Off, Display, Display and sound.
  9. Could also be Waze in the background - exceed the speed limit by a few mph and it beeps (mine does anyway) even with normal phone notifications silenced.
  10. Following the dialogue in the linked thread, I emailed Škoda UK in an attempt to clarify the apparent contradiction of the shop alert and published documentation about the Mk4. Škoda UK in turn referred me to the Connect Helpline with a .cz email address (so presumably at the factory). They have forwarded my enquiry to the “competent department” (which I assume to mean the ‘appropriate department’). I await a response. When I get it, I will update the forum.
  11. This thread has some comment on the 4G/LTE connectivity...
  12. I've not done it but I guess it would be in a similar manner to connecting the car to a mobile device hotspot...
  13. Good point about the security considerations. Because of that, I have two WiFi networks, one of which is effectively a 'Guest' network on which I put some internet connected smart appliances (and guests); and where I would put the car if need be.
  14. @Phil Lee if you're charging the car at home and the OVO app needs the car to be Internet connected, could you put the car on your home WiFi?
  15. My 2020 build pre-facelift has NX in the VIN (7th and 8th characters).
  16. So, it seems I get to keep your money 😜 Reply from dealer, they reckon the Octy 4 has indeed got a 4G compatible eSIM.
  17. The Infotainment System software updates are usually Dealer (or authorised independent) installed; free (by the dealer) under warranty. After that, as I understand it, they're chargeable. Minor Infotainment System & app updates are free over the air (OTA); and the SatNav map updates are also OTA if you have the appropriate subscription. As @TheWanderer mentioned, keep an eye on the on-board SIM thread.
  18. According to Ofcom, here in the UK some providers have already turned off their 3G networks, others scheduled to do so by early 2025. Also, they plan to cease 2G services by 2033 but as yet no planned dates. Don't know much about how the SOS module works buy guess it may get away with a 2G service for a voice call and maybe sending location; but Škoda Connect Services I reckon would need higher bandwidth than 2G offers (a mere 40kbps). I have emailed my dealer to ask if they can shed any light on the question.
  19. I haven’t come across that (yet). What kind of files are you referring to, and which App would normally access them?
  20. To be honest I don't use the Sync feature, and very rarely have since I had a car with the capability, but when I saw people had the issue I just tried it with voice control - which I use for temperature, Air Care, radio, music, and heated seats. For some reason I can't get it to work reliably when setting a destination in the SatNav (Siri and Apple Maps is more reliable in that respect). But that is a topic for another thread...
  21. Yes, this is fixable by software updates. Your local dealer should be able to do it for you - and, if bought as a Škoda Approved car, should have been done before purchase . If from an independent seller, then there may be a charge if outside the three year warranty. Mine, fixed ages ago, now gets it right 99% of the time with only the very occasional ’moment’. In the meantime, a tap on the throttle will release the ACC and allow you to pass the vehicle. I find that the easiest workaround.
  22. Welcome the forums & your new, to you, VRS. When I read your post I was surprised it didn't have blindspot detection or traffic sign recognition (part of the travel assist bundle) so had a look at the .pdf brochure I have, dated 12/20. For the VRS both of those were options - so it seems you car is 'normal' for the year. If you're keen on adding them, then I'm sure it can be done for a fee - the guys at @East_Yorkshire_Retrofits (AIUI, they're a site sponsor) would be best able to comment. I am in no way affiliated with them, but am aware of some of their services.
  23. Easiest solution is to use voice control. Set the driver side and ask it to synchronise temperature.
  24. Several on here have had issues with clicks and Pops from the SOS system module which has been fixed with a software update and in some cases of early build cars (like mine) the module replaced too. The later Infotainment System software updates have fixed the restarts for many too, you'd need v1941 or higher. Your local dealer should be able to do the updates, hopefully under warranty as they are known faults. A while back there was an IV owner who experienced the Infotainment System coming on and off whilst parked up - but sadly I cannot recall the details nor the solution 🙄. Wouldn't be surprised if there was a control unit somewhere that needed replacement.
