Good point about the security considerations. Because of that, I have two WiFi networks, one of which is effectively a 'Guest' network on which I put some internet connected smart appliances (and guests); and where I would put the car if need be.

@Phil Lee if you're charging the car at home and the OVO app needs the car to be Internet connected, could you put the car on your home WiFi?

The Infotainment System software updates are usually Dealer (or authorised independent) installed; free (by the dealer) under warranty. After that, as I understand it, they're chargeable. Minor Infotainment System & app updates are free over the air (OTA); and the SatNav map updates are also OTA if you have the appropriate subscription. As @TheWanderer mentioned, keep an eye on the on-board SIM thread.

According to Ofcom, here in the UK some providers have already turned off their 3G networks, others scheduled to do so by early 2025. Also, they plan to cease 2G services by 2033 but as yet no planned dates. Don't know much about how the SOS module works buy guess it may get away with a 2G service for a voice call and maybe sending location; but Škoda Connect Services I reckon would need higher bandwidth than 2G offers (a mere 40kbps). I have emailed my dealer to ask if they can shed any light on the question.

To be honest I don't use the Sync feature, and very rarely have since I had a car with the capability, but when I saw people had the issue I just tried it with voice control - which I use for temperature, Air Care, radio, music, and heated seats. For some reason I can't get it to work reliably when setting a destination in the SatNav (Siri and Apple Maps is more reliable in that respect). But that is a topic for another thread...

Yes, this is fixable by software updates. Your local dealer should be able to do it for you - and, if bought as a Škoda Approved car, should have been done before purchase . If from an independent seller, then there may be a charge if outside the three year warranty. Mine, fixed ages ago, now gets it right 99% of the time with only the very occasional ’moment’. In the meantime, a tap on the throttle will release the ACC and allow you to pass the vehicle. I find that the easiest workaround.

Welcome the forums & your new, to you, VRS. When I read your post I was surprised it didn't have blindspot detection or traffic sign recognition (part of the travel assist bundle) so had a look at the .pdf brochure I have, dated 12/20. For the VRS both of those were options - so it seems you car is 'normal' for the year. If you're keen on adding them, then I'm sure it can be done for a fee - the guys at @East_Yorkshire_Retrofits (AIUI, they're a site sponsor) would be best able to comment. I am in no way affiliated with them, but am aware of some of their services.

Easiest solution is to use voice control. Set the driver side and ask it to synchronise temperature.

Several on here have had issues with clicks and Pops from the SOS system module which has been fixed with a software update and in some cases of early build cars (like mine) the module replaced too. The later Infotainment System software updates have fixed the restarts for many too, you'd need v1941 or higher. Your local dealer should be able to do the updates, hopefully under warranty as they are known faults. A while back there was an IV owner who experienced the Infotainment System coming on and off whilst parked up - but sadly I cannot recall the details nor the solution 🙄. Wouldn't be surprised if there was a control unit somewhere that needed replacement.

You mention a particulate sensor so I assume you have a TDI; 24k miles doesn’t sound much in four years for a diesel. Have your previous ones been diesel or your usage changed? In contrast, my 4yo 1.5 TSI has given 51k miles of reliable motoring (other than early s/w issues).

Similar, except for me it was restarting my iPhone that sorted it.

I have a 1.5TSI ACT 6-speed manual estate, SEL FE; covered best part of 50k miles in under 3.5 years. I have been most impressed by the economy from this engine. Overall, it has averaged about 57mpg since I bought it; and on a recent 3500 mile road trip to northern Italy it was 60mpg. That trip with two of us and a full boot (esp. on the return leg with 4 dozen bottles of wine 🍷 on board). To be fair, on the autoroute/autostrada I kept the speed to about 110-115kph (70mph-ish) rather than the limit of 130kph. Performance is more than enough for me and feels quite sprightly above 2500rpm, so compared to the TDI you're familiar with at first it may feel a bit sluggish at low revs. Depends on driving style, but I find it absolutely fine. Most of my mileage is on medium to long journeys of fifty to two or three hundred miles on dual carriageways or motorways hence the good economy. A run to the next town and back (15 mile round trip) will give about 50mpg plus or minus a few. For my mileage pattern a PHEV would not be a good investment - but I can see that those with a higher proportion of short journeys it would be worthwhile. A while back I drove a 1.0TSI e-TEC (MHEV) estate for about 8500 miles. Mostly it performed well, though for long motorway trips and heavy loads it lacked a bit of oomph. Economy was not dissimilar to my 1.5 TSI ACT manual though I no longer have the records. If I were to replace my Mk4 with another Mk4 I'd go for the 1.5 TSI MHEV - for two reasons... I'm getting older and fed up with a manual 'box when in stop-start traffic The integration of the DSG transmission with the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). Allowing the technology bring the car to a halt in a traffic queue, then move off again by itself would be a dream.

Logging in as primary user needs verification by a dealer. Shouldn’t take long, you’ll need your Škoda ID, proof of ownership/purchase, and proof of your ID (driving license should do). That’s all because as primary user you can use the app to locate the vehicle and alert based on speed or location regardless of who is driving it. Hence the privacy considerations come in to play.

I recall that happening from time to time; usually sorts itself out in a day or. If it persists check that you can log in ok to the app with the same Škoda ID, add your car (vin needed) and see data such as mileage and fuel economy. At some point you’ll want to ‘promote’ yourself to Primary User for which you may need a dealer to verify your ownership (privacy laws and stuff like that).

Yes, the car should connect by itself if the comms module is working properly; you don’t need the use WiFi. The white globe should appear like this in my car…

Welcome to the forums and your new [to you] Octavia Mk4. The versions of components in your photo are the same as mine, apart from the Nav. Db date (I'm on 24.10, but do have a subscription which includes the OTA updates). To add a user the car needs to be online. On the main Infotainment screen, you should see a globe symbol in the bottom row next to the clock (the Info segment), it could be either grey (offline) or white (online) - you need it to be white. The in-car comms module should connect automatically if you have a mobile signal. Did you buy it from a Main Dealer as a Škoda Plus Approved Used car? If so, then all updates should have been applied before sale - it's one of the benefits for buying such a vehicle -

With two iPhones, my car connects CarPlay to the last one used (if it's within range) regardless of the Infotainment system user. Which ever one connects to CarPlay, the other with 'conventional' Bluetooth. For music on the USB stick, I usually use voice control to request either the album name or artist name. I haven't [yet] added playlists but guess they'd work too.

Another thought - if you have Apple Music then you (or your wife) could play music with SharePlay (https://support.apple.com/en-gb/108767)
