  1. All I can think of is setting your preferred POIs
  2. Catching up after a couple of busy days… Mine is a mid[ish]-2020 build, so a bit older than yours. Nice one! My folder structure is similar \\artistname\albumname\*.mp3 If folder structure is so critical to the voice control then it’d be good if it was specified somewhere in the manual. Once you get through the tedium of restructuring your folders the music will sound all the sweeter 😉
  3. I’m not aware of any settings, tick boxes, etc for voice control.
  4. I wonder if that’s a regional thing. I am able to use voice control for media, radio, heated seats, climate control and navigation (though the latter with limited success). Haven’t yet found a definitive list of what voice control can be used for, nor a guide to the syntax for navigation commands. Certainly works ok in my car for media though.
  5. Mine is now on 1941, but it has worked like this since I've had the car when it was on something like 1668. WRT to 1941, worth checking through the list of fixes in the TPI - see page 12 of the thread Infotainment System Restating endlessly (hopefully the link will take you to the actual post).
  6. This afternoon I asked mine to “play artistname” knowing the I had two subfolders under artistname, one for each of two albums. It played album1, in track order followed by album2, in track order. what I haven’t done is ask “play artistname albumname“. Will try to remember next time I’m out.
  7. I reckon there is a generational thing going on with the virtual cockpit, with later versions being more capable than the older one. For example, new-ish cars can display the built-in satnav map on the VC along with the usual dials, whereas mine can't, even with the latest software updates applied. In fact before the VC was replaced as part of the kph/mph fix two years ago, it couldn't even display the clock in the top centre. This afternoon I had a fiddle with CarPlay and various navigation apps... Apple Maps : display of turn directions in top centre of the VC and optionally in the centre of the speedometer or tachometer Google Maps : nothing on the VC at all Waze : nothing on the VC at all Built-in satnav : turn directions in top centre of the VC and optionally in the centre of the speedometer or tachometer
  8. Works fine for me; I use something like “play dire straits” and it plays all the tracks in that folder and subfolders.
  9. Good point, the ones I drove were the mild hybrid 1.0 e-tec versions but I forgot to mention that bit 🙄
  10. No idea what the system is called, but from memory the coasting or braking behaviour can be dependant on how quickly you lift off the accelerator. Do it quickly, I reckon the car assumes you want to slow down; whereas doing it more gradually it thinks you're aiming to maintain speed. Having said that, I haven't driven an O4 DSG for about two years so may be mistaken...
  11. Whilst my car is a manual I’ve driven a couple of DSG mk4 Octavias over just shy of 9000miles. In both of those, turning off the engine automatically put the ‘box in P and applied the parking brake. I didn’t have to change any settings but I think there is one in there somewhere.
  12. That's poor service from your dealer to leave you with a car with such limited functionality. Put pressure on through Škoda UK (escalate it there if need be) to secure a loan vehicle for the duration of the fix. Mine was at the dealers for five months awaiting a fix to be developed, whilst I drove around in a loan car. Yes it was frustrating but the approach of the Dealer and Škoda UK made it acceptable and I felt I was treated pretty well.
  13. Had mine updated to 1941 by the dealer a couple of weeks ago; no issues since. When I dropped it off the reception staff were well aware of the reboot issues, mentioned that I wasn't the only one and that the Master Tech would check the VIN number against the TPI for compatibility before installing it (which makes sense). Others have mentioned that the system feels more responsive and performs more quickly - and I agree. Previously I felt it was painfully slow at times, but not now. @MrSafferty I agree with @TheWanderer - hang in there with polite but firm pressure on the dealer to get your car sorted, keeping Škoda Customer Services informed/involved. The Octavia IV is a lovely car, and I can't think of anything out there I'd buy instead (and believe me, I have looked long and hard at times such has been my Octy4 journey over the last couple of years).
  14. The only thing I can think of is that the profile is corrupted. Maybe try creating a new one, or resetting the infotainment system.
  15. The grey globe indicates that the car isn’t connected to the online services, which are needed for syncing the user etc. IIRC new cars come with 1 year connection, after that it’s an annual subscription to Škoda Connect (but also check Infotainment Online (or whatever it’s called) for what they cover).
  16. Exhibit B are not Matrix headlights. They’re pretty good though, and if you pay up, can get an auto-dip function (simple full/dip beam).
  17. I've been looking at getting a spare wheel. Found this site which gives the wheel spec... https://www.wheel-size.com/size/skoda/octavia/mk4-a8-nx-2020-now/#trim-mk4-a8-nx-2020-2024-eudm-15-tsi--148
  18. I think with the CarPlay selected you can use the control wheel to play/pause music and end phone calls; otherwise not much use as far as I can see. When using Waze with CarPlay, do you see turn directions on the VC (top centre)? I sometimes use Apple Maps for navigation and I do get the turn directions displayed there. Somewhere I read that CarPlay supports two screens such as infotainment and virtual cockpit in the Octy4 - but it's down to the individual car makers to exploit that functionality.
  19. I get this... I guess you should check with DVLA - or maybe I should and maybe get a free year hahaha!
  20. The only one of those three I have used is the Settings, using it to remove items from those displayed when scrolling through when turning the knurled knob on the steering wheel spoke. IIRC, the Backgrounds enables loading of images for the background of the main infotainment screen. Why I'd want to do that I can't imaging. As for the CarPlay option I've never tried even though I connect my iPhone with CarPlay every time I start up. Might have to have a fiddle...
  21. That's better mpg than I'm getting on the motorway trips, mine is usually 60 - 64mpg and locally it'd be low-mid 50s (unless it's in town then in to the 40s. I usually get the standard Shell E10. Tried V-Power E5 for a consecutive few tankfuls, near as no matter the same economy but it felt a bit smoother. Is the Sainsbury's Super Unleaded E10 or E5? Does your 1.5 have mode selection? If so, which mode do you normally use?
  22. Funnily enough I was reading about the 1.5tsi earlier and came across this… ”The 1.5 TSI has the intake and exhaust camshaft (DOHC) driven by a zero-maintenance, low-friction timing belt.” Taken from here - https://www.motorreviewer.com/engine.php?engine_id=117
  23. I tend to agree. Whilst I have a pretty laid back driving style even on country roads (A, B, and C roads) consumption is notably higher than at near steady speed cruising on motorways and trunk roads. I guess that points to the efficiency gains of the variable vane turbos and cylinder deactivation technologies.
  24. @Gerrycan in my 1.5 manual, 70mph is at ~2350rpm (60mph is dead on 2000rpm, so 30mph per 1000rpm) in 6th gear. Compared to my previous car, a 1.4tsi (125ps) Superb Mk2 hatch (manual), the 1.5 Octavia is notably less flexible/tractable at low rpm requiring 2nd for some roundabouts whereas 3rd was fine in the Superb; over 56k miles the Superb averaged 48.9mpg - I was expecting similar from my higher powered (150ps) 1.5tsi but its returning about 15% improvement. The cylinder deactivation in the 1.5 must contribute something towards that improvement but how much I wouldn't have a clue! I have seen the deactivation cut in at 1300rpm pottering around town in Normal Mode, not aware of it being more active in Eco though logically it would be - I'm now intrigued so will have to check it out.
  25. Yep, the economy in the 1.5 manual is much better than I expected / was hoping for. Over the 27k miles I’ve done mine it’s averaged over 57mpg. This evening I had a run to Heathrow T2 and back (M3, M25, M4, plus short-stay car park faffing), trip computer reckoned on 67.4mpg.
