Tipping point?
I’m not yet convinced we’re at a tipping point, there is a huge way to go before an EV is practical for many. Infrastructure is the primary limiting factor, followed by charge time. A significant proportion of car owners have only street parking, and from my experience little chance of parking anywhere near their own front door. This makes them totally dependent on public charging stations with no option for a low rate domestic tariff of [their own] solar charging. And not everyone has an option to charge at work, again forcing charging at public stations. And if those are in the Park and Ride, then it’ll need to be there all day so others can’t access the charger. There is much noise made about fast charging from high power outlets, but my understanding is that fast charging is detrimental to battery life and in-car systems restrict the number of sequential fast charges. As yet, I haven’t found a non biased (without vested interest) assessment of how green or environment friendly an EV is compared to ICE vehicles are. Yes, at the exhaust/emissions level on the road an EV will be cleaner, but what about whole life, from raw materials to scrap/recycling? At some point in the future (not too distant I hope) the offshore grid will be commissioned enabling the wind generated power from the north, west, and offshore to be distributed across the whole of the UK. This is essential for the increase in demand for electricity from EVs and the switch from gas heating. I also wonder if the political drive would be better directed at massive investment in affordable and accessible public transport, reducing the demand for private vehicles. Surely we shouldn’t need as many cars (ICE or EV) in the UK.

Advice sought regarding Mesh WiFi please
I agree, mesh wifi is the way to go. They work a bit differently to wifi repeaters, especially if there are three of more access points. A mesh wifi will use multiple antennae in each unit which then communicate with each other to create a single wifi network (one SSID) with multiple access points. If the device supports it, you can connect to one access point and go walkabout and it will seamlessly switch a nearer one with a stronger signal. Most modern phones, tablets and laptops will support roaming. Some of the more expensive models of mesh wifi have a dedicated wireless channel for the interconnects between access points. This makes for a faster user experience as there is less contention. So, if you have a busy household with several users streaming media and/or gaming then I suggest investing in one with the dedicated channels - assuming your broadband also has the bandwidth. For several years I've been using a TP-Link Deco M5 mesh with three access points (without a dedicated interconnect) and it's been fine.

Junk mail intermittent
Hi @Gaz, whilst I'm a Mac user, I use webmail more than the macOS mail app so not that familiar with it. Having said that, the position and emboldening of "HeySpin New Releases" suggests to me that it's the sender rather than subject line. If it is, then maybe it's the deviousness of junk mail senders subtly changing the 'from address' to work around the filters, and the mail app filter is not quite getting there. Do you also have a rule that blocks from addresses that contain HeySpin rather than a specific address? Also, check your Junk Mail Behaviours settings. I'm guessing you don't want this...

Kessy - Keyless 5th door /rear door/ does not open properly
@cadger81 you did mention in your first post it sometimes happens, sometimes not. I missed that 🙄 It really does sound like a fault in the kessy system; I have used mine for over two years and always consistent, no random issues . I hope you can get it fixed.

Kessy - Keyless 5th door /rear door/ does not open properly
All that I can suggest is you check the settings for the central locking, they may be set to 'Single door' or 'Doors on one side' which would mean needing to unlock it two times or more to open the 5th door. Make sure it is set to 'All doors'.

Infotainment System Restarting endlessly
I put my iPhone in flight mode one time. Infotainment system rebooted and the phone told me to turn on Wi-Fi to enable CarPlay - so even in flight mode the phone worked out I was in the car…

Infotainment System Restarting endlessly
Yes, it affects mine with CarPlay, seems totally random as to whether I get no reboot, just one or multiple!

Fuel tank capacity?
Can’t compare to a vRS, but in my 1.5tsi the red light will come on with a range between 55 and 85 miles. It’s usually in the range 65 - 75 miles though. As @toot say, depends on recent average mpg.

Infotainment System Restarting endlessly
I have a couple of niggles remaining too. Love the car; arguably the best I’ve had in 40+ years of motoring, yet also arguably the worst! I find these repeated reboots are surprisingly frustrating! I keep toying with the idea getting rid too. I’ve hung on since March ‘21 with mine. Been at the [very good] dealers at Škoda’s behest for at least 6 months over that time. When is enough, enough? Is the question I keep asking myself. I can’t work out what to get instead either! Should be the subject of another thread I guess rather than derail this one.

Windscreen Wiper Replacements
I got the AP26U and AP19U as suggested by @inspectorman (thanks) and yes, they fit. Need to use fitting 4, and be careful not to pinch fingers in the process of putting them on the wiper arms (I did the same one twice in the same place - damned painful. Perhaps says more about my skill set than the wipers themselves 🙄). Being a generic fit they are symmetric in profile whereas the original fit and the A310S are asymmetric. I guess there may be a slight impact on performance in some conditions (high speed?) but I don’t know yet. If there isn’t why else would Bosch go to the bother of asymmetry?

Visually etc. My car of the day -today
Absolutely loved my Dolomite (alas an 1850, not a Sprint). Some how I managed to buy it when I was 18yo; and with about 18 months driving experience it led to an interesting conversation with the insurance broker - resulting in the premium being about the same as what I paid for the car. Taught me to check insurance premiums before buying a car!

Radio Screen
Closest I have got is the favourites. Once they’re selected you can swipe down from the top of the screen.

Windscreen Wiper Replacements
I've just re-read the whole thread. I'm going to try the Bosch ones mentioned by @inspectorman above before the Valeo ones.

Windscreen Wiper Replacements
Just tried them. Short answer: they DO NOT fit. The length is a perfect match to the original ✔️ The arm fitting is at the right position along the blade ✔️ The arm fitting is too wide for the mounting point on the arm itself ✖️ Frustrating as it's another set to send back to Mr. Amazon 🙄 Seems Bosch don't make a 650mm to fit so I think it'll be a trip to Halford and try the Valeo blades as I want the 650mm length like the originals, not the shorter 600mm which retailers say are for the Octy 4.

Windscreen Wiper Replacements
I have some, delivered the other day, not fitted yet 🙄 Will report back later (or tomorrow if I don't have time to fit this evening)

Infotainment System Restarting endlessly
I assume so - but for the kph/mph issue I reckon it was my car! The dealer had it for five months 🙄

Coffee cup holders too small - any expansion adaptor recommendations?
It’d fine in a DSG, no way I could cope with that as I have a manual ‘box. I use a small (350ml) stainless steel insulated bottle, the grips in the holders keep it firm so I can release the top one handed and it’s low enough not to get in the way. The 500ml bottle works well too but being taller it is more obtrusive. 720°DGREE Vaccum Insulated Water Bottle “milkyBottle“ - 350ml, 500ml, 750ml, 1L - Leakproof, BPA-Free - Stainless Steel Thermo Flask for Sports, Gym, Kids, Yoga, Outdoor - Keeps Your Drinks Hot/Cold https://amzn.eu/d/7xcrveh

Infotainment System Restarting endlessly
Mine too has begun to reboot soon after starting up, usually with the Parking Distance error message. Yesterday I had three reboots on one of the journeys, one on another, and none on the other two. Inconsistency like that makes diagnosis much more difficult, especially combined with differing versions of system s/ware; though I guess it’s all a service oriented architecture with many components running their own s/ware interlinked with service calls each of which will have their own version control & testing headaches. I’m not making excuses for Škoda/VAG as they should be fixing all the issues for the paying customer, but I acknowledge it’s a big job (of their own making). Makes me so pleased I switched from software development to IT Infrastructure (or as I called it, Tin and String 😉) - and perhaps fortunately retired a few years back as a lot of software defined infrastructure services were coming in.

Thinking of getting Sonos home cinema set...not sure what sub to get
I don't have (and never heard) the Sub-mini, but do have the 'full' Sub (G1, IIRC); had the kit for years but thankfully all compliant with the S2 Sonos system. Even at low volumes the sub does sound very good with plenty of depth. What I hadn't realised when I bought the sub was that once setup it takes all the base for the main speakers, even for music playback (not just TV/movie) - leaving the Play:1s and PlayBar to deal with the mid-tones and treble. Overall sound had a big improvement once the sub was in place.

Delving into home security...
Thanks @slicendice, useful to know what you went for. At what height are the cameras? I'm thinking if too low, they could easily be tampered with; whereas too high and they may not pick up faces so harder to ID any miscreants.

2.0tdi or 1.6tdi
There is a lot of merit in what @SurreyJohn says about going petrol. I have a 1.5tsi manual and on motorway runs at the legal limit where practical/safe I’m getting 60+ mpg. I couldn’t justify the cost of a diesel.

Turning auto door lock off
That is a horrific experience for you to endure - and words cannot describe how the occupants of that car must have felt. Thank you for being brave enough to share it and I hope you and your family are getting all the support you need to overcome the trauma. And likewise the relatives of those in the accident. We too easily trust that the modern automatic features of our cars will work as described when we need them too and this very sad incident has certainly got me thinking! Should I disable the autolock or not. I like the feeling of security, especially as I often carry expensive equipment in the car - but what is that compared to the value of life...

Help me out - trip meter?
Welcome back to the forums; a shame you felt the need... You don't mention which model of Octavia Mk4 you have other than 1.5 petrol; nor how new it is. I have the 1.5 Psi SEL 1st Ed. estate which does indeed have a holder for the warning triangle. It's on the left side of the boot, high up below the window. AIUI, the hatch is in a different location but I can't remember exactly where. Also, under the boot floor in mine is ample space for oil, screen cleaner, foot pump, cloths, and a whole load more junk I find myself carrying around all along with the tyre inflator kit (I don't have the spare wheel option). I was genuinely surprised how my stuff I can carry around without anything in the boot. As regards the comparison with a 1.4 Seat I reckon there is a a few of things going on there. Firstly, Seat tend to be more of a drivers car and are much more responsive to the throttle; and secondly I reckon the 1.5tsi is configured more for economy and low emissions. My previous car was a 1.4 Superb mk2 -125ps I think so less powerful but it did pull better form low rpm. Even now with nigh on 30k miles on my Octavia it doesn't have the low-rev pull of the Superb. Is it a problem? No. Just that at some roundabouts I drop to 2nd rather be lazy and staying in 3rd. I'm not at all surprised you notice a big difference to you 2.0 diesel (esp. low rpm pull). If yours is anything like mine, you should be very pleased with the fuel consumption; I'm getting around 60mpg on long motorway/major road runs which is within 5% of my 1.6tdi Octavia mk2 I had a few years back. You'll soon get used to the infotainment system and touch screen stuff you use regularly. The steering wheel buttons are very useful as well as voice control if it's on your model. Hope you grow to enjoy your new car as much as I do mine.

A proper Grand Tour.
Yes, rather too many £££ for my liking but we’re making it a bit of a celebration…

Cannot log in after OAA2 update
I don’t think so. If they do, I haven’t found it yet. Frustrating…
