Cheap Ebay Alternative to MFD2 installed.

I couldn't find any information on this device's Maxidot display compatability. I don't think it will work. It needs a CAN-bus connection and Pioneer is not supporting it.

Only OEM radios and navigation systems interact with Maxidot. Sorry.

Thanks.

There is a reference to it on this link:

Skoda Octavia II (09-2007/*) - Speakers and Accessories for your car - by Pioneer

But I think it is for MY2007 onwards & mine is a 01/2006.

Hmm.. I wonder what that means. I just looked at the installation instructions and that unit doesn't have CAN-bus connection. It's just normal ISO connection.

If you look at the pinout, there's just connections to live, switched live, speakers, illumination and vehicle speed. No CAN -H or CAN -L connection.

And because the lack of CAN-bus, that unit can't work with maxidot. OEM radios use CAN to send data to instrument cluster.

S4AINT can you post some pictures of the interface? thanks

Pictures as requested (taken while dark)

Pic 1: Main Ipod menu, touch the screen to reveal control buttons.

Pic 2: Albums menu with buttons on.

Pic 3: With the tune on the buttons dissapear after a couple of seconds (check the edge of the screen either side, looks like a burnt CRT screen).

It is useable and to me its the worst point of what i think is a very good unit for the money i've paid:thumbup:. The Ipod won't charge but i'll get over it:rolleyes:

Can it navigate while playing from the ipod?

Can it navigate while playing from the ipod?

Struggling to find some nav software to use, might have to surf lime wire or something...

Hi S41NT, this is what I did looking for about ipod. Thanks. :thumbup:

it would be cool to find somebody to mod the interface. at least to change the colours :)

Has anyone got navigation software running on their 'pikey' MFD2s yet? I'm seeing lots of nice pictures, but none of them seem to have maps on them.

See opening post... ;)

Yes you can navigate with the ipod on, igo8 sounds temporarily interupt the ipod, then the ipod music comes back in.

Also when you turn the engine off and take the keys out then start back up the cd's and dvd's carry on from where they left off. Sadly as stated before by someone (was it Auberne?), the ipod doesn't.

Just out of interest i took the sd card out of my roadangel navigator and it run's a treat on the witson:thumbup: but with no sound:thumbdwn:. Pic 1 shows road angel running on the wit.

I then put an sd in it with IGO8 and it runs ok with sound but the full igo screen only takes up 2 thirds of the witson screen from the left. Any tips on how to sort please? Thanks in advance.

The blue teef option for the phone is ace although sometimes i did have to raise my voice a little but it was when the signal was fading. The phone auto connects with the witson when you enter/exit the car which is pretty smart.

Pic 2 is a Tiesto music dvd but i've got black lines at the top and bottom anyone know how to sort that one? T-1000 doesn't seem to have the lines on pics in post 1. On my normal dvd it runs full screen. I can't seem to find an option to resize it?

Its turning out to be a very good unit in my opinion. Don't like the ipod screen but i can leave the Nav screen on instead.

At a guess the resolution in the sys.txt file on the iGo SD card needs changing to that of the screen. I guess it should be something like this (based on the advertised resolution):

[interface]

skin="ui_igo8"

resolution_dir="480_234"

vga=1

[rawdisplay]

class="landscape"

screen_x=480

screen_y=234

....

Hope that helps.

Any chance you can explain in complete computer retard terms, not the best when it comes to this sort of stuff? Where do i need to go to change them?

I've found the ui_igo8 folder, in there are 4 more folders 320_240, 400_240,common and icons folders.

Cheers...

I am basing this on the version of iGo 8 that I have got...:

Try reading the SD card from your PC. In the root folder there should be a file called "sys.txt" & open it with notepad. It should give you the curent resolution settings.

ah good stuff S41NT - ignore my PM. I see you got IGo8 working already!

tbh I like the "3D graphics" of iGo8, but TomTom7 is way more user friendly - of course I have it on my phone - I haven't got this unit (yet ;-)

by the way, I emailed Witson about providing ROMs or tools to modify them - they said nooo way, it will break the interface if you do it wrong. Obviously they are not aware of the enormous rom cooking community for smart phones and PDA's. I've lost track of the number of times I updated my phone with "cooked" ROMs.

xda-developers - Powered by vBulletin this is where people can "improve" what the OEMs churn out.....

When i don't know what i'm doing and try to fix the problem it hurts my head :2002headw , :rofl: don't worry i'm not quite done yet. Help is on the way though, will post pics when sorted.

There are a few ozzie guys who are trying to crack the firmware but not heard much so far there is a wiki page here avc9000 home but nothing on it as yet. Fingers crossed a good front end and this unit would be the dogs danglies.

Quite fancy a 12v freeview box and glass mount antenna to hook up to it now. Not really looked at the intructions so not sure if i need the tuning box or just the aerial/antenna?

I'll post on here when i find out :thumbup:

Think it will slot nicely into the CD changer mount in the boot.

Which brings me to another question. SWMBO has been moaning about not being able to use the changer. Is it possible to hook the cd changer up to the new unit with a bit of snipping and crimping?

ES Global are back on ebay with the 2 skoda units: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/warehouseGB

They've also got a new website:

www.esg1.co.uk

Some of the VW one's on there look really nice with proper windows front ends on them.

Anyway big thanks to T-1000 for helping me sort the sat nav out:thumbup:. Its running really well both visually and audio.

Two pics one during the day and one at night.

Is that enough pictures yet???:D

(Off Topic) My Octavia is arrived and it's really fantastic! :P

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

(On Topic) I installed the Witson unit by the Skoda dealer directly but something is wrong. I didn't got enought time to check better myself but there are some defects:

1. Cd/dvd disks are rejected after 2/3 seconds. I know that I have to unscrew something on the top of the radio but I don’t know what.

Could you please someone send me a photo by example?

2. Every time I make the reverse gear on the car The unit try to show the back camera but I don’t get the camera and the unit is then bloked.

3. The touch screen display doesn’t respond in good way. Is there any other hidden settings?

4. I have the Ipod 80Gb 5th generation that is quite full of music. When I connect it the menu doesn’t give me the possibility to choice anything.

Is there a timing to wait before the unit takes all songs, generes, artists, playlists? Why doesn’t play anything?

5. yesterday, during a play of the radio, the unit switched off itself! Bohh!

It's my opinion that the Skoda installer doesn't install in good way.:mad:

Please, let me hope that this unit works better then now. :(

Thanks in advance.

Hi Deny-red

1-if CD/DVD disks are taken inside by the device completely, that means two bolts were taken out (unscrewed). Otherwise if you don't unscrew two bolts, then the device takes any cd/dvd only to half of it.

But I can say the device absolutely acts in selectible way. Any dust and draw cause the cd/dvd does't work.

2- for the reverse gear there may be another choice: You may not use any reverse lights power for the camera(Probably, I think, the delaer service used this way). So you can connect the camera electric to another power on the car (for example cigarette lighter power cable) and add any switch on it (anywhere on the dash) for open and closing camera . So anytime that you want , you can switch the reverse camera or not. This featuring provide for you one plus, while you cruising on road (for example very fast) you can switch on the reverse camera and enjoy to see cruising from back of the car.

3- actually my touch screen works very well Althought I don't taken the protective transparent film out on the screen. Only small buttons constrains me a little bit.

4- I havent installed any ipod, so I have no idea

5- What do you mean that "the switch off" while on the road. "works but no sound" or "completely doesn't works", If second, this is issue.

But if first, is the "TP" function on the device open? In Turkey this happens sometime actually, if TP is open, sometimes the radio is cutted but no broadcast especially on some regions and this means "works but no sounds"

I hope it becomes helpfull.

Mine is for sale in the "items for sale" section. Decided not to fit it as i want to concentrate on other things. It's never been used. Only thing i did was plug it in to see it working.

Did you have any luck with the cd changer hooking up to the Din socket, if not does anybody know where to get a lead from for the factory fit cd changer to the head unit?

I miss my cds in the boot!:(
